TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Metlz asked this question in his update earlier this week: "If you watched TNA on Spike a few weeks back when Sting debuted, but did not watch the show on Saturday night, we're looking for a reason or reasons why" and posted the responses today. He said that he was only wanted to hear from people who watched the Sting episode and did not watch since, not people who've never watched or always watch. Anyway, the responses were interesting....here they are: Readers check in on TNA's ratings decline Hi Dave, I watched the TNA Impact where Sting had his interview announcing his retirement, and quite a few of them before that. But missed last week's, as well as all but one in between. Reason being, I'm just waiting for the return. I know he's coming back, I would've liked to see the storyline be less around Jeff Jarrett. As soon as I hear that he's for sure coming back, I'll start watching again. He's a real star who can still cut an interview that stirs my blood (WWE doesn't even have one of them anymore). He's still got whatever it is that he had in the 90's, and I think he is going to be the number one thing that leads to TNA's potential growth. Memorable feuds between Sting and Christian/Abyss/Monty Brown, etc. are what will establish all the top heels in the brand for years to come. Once the feuds play out, the part opposite of Sting will be on the radar. And through heels come the great faces like AJ Styles. Little ranty, but bottom line is, I enjoy the wrestling, haven't found a program that's hooked me yet. But when Sting has a mic, or when he works the crowd in a match, I feel the Monday Night Wars again. I feel like a wrestling fan, and I haven't felt that probably since The Rock left to make movies. Tyler Woidan Michigan Hey Dave, I'll be quick with this answer: I watched Impact because I wanted to see Sting and the show was good enough that I have been watching Impact since. But, I didn't buy the pay per view. Honestly, I'm a tough sell on PPVs. I watch Raw every week and Smackdown once or twice a month but only buy 2-3 WWE PPVs a year. Maybe I'll buy a TNA PPV someday but it's also that I'm not a likely PPV buyer. Price is an issue. It's not just that $25 to $35 for a 3 hour show (when my cable service also offers movies at equivalent length for $4) makes me think twice but also that, even when I've bought, and enjoyed WWE pay per views, I've sometimes felt like a sucker afterwards when I realize that I'll know the results by the next day at the latest and can then, just a few weeks later in the case of WWE, just add the darn show to my Netflix list and get it from a service I'm already paying for. Also, that way, I have the added advantage of knowing whether the show is worth my time or not, which is a big advantage since, while not knowing the outcome of a great match is cool, the wins and losses aren't the most important part of the show. That said, even if I never buy a TNA pay per view, the Sting appearance got me watching and a lot of their talent, especially Samoa Joe, has kept me tuning in. Does that count for something? -Mike Maiello hey Dave, just responding to the poll in your Thursday update. I watched the Monday re-run of Sting's premiere and I missed the most recent episode. the reason is I just forgot about TNA being on. I usually watch the re-run on Monday because I'm watching Raw out of habit and I remember about TNA being on and being better, but occasionally I turn off Raw early because I can't put up with the crap, which is what happened this past Monday, and so I forgot about TNA. I don't have a Neilson box, so I don't contribute to the ratings. Bob Jardien "If you watched TNA on Spike a few weeks back when Sting debuted, but did not watch the show on Saturday night, we're looking for a reason or reasons why." Because I had a routine down. Watched Raw and recorded UFC Unleashed, flipped over and watched the next UFC Unleashed and then I go to bed while recording TNA. With this said, I am a huge Sting mark. But, I've only recently been watching TNA. I always read the results and analysis on your site, but never watched it before Spike. Anyway, I don't have much emotion invested in TNA yet, so I knew I would see it eventually, the Monday night view/record always worked into my schedule better. Respect. Josh In response to the question of the day... Believe it or not but some wrestling fans actually have a life outside of wrestling. My Saturday nights usually involve getting drunk at a nightclub and rolling through your hood Dave for some Taco Bravo. Anyways I don't watch any TNA programming on Saturday nights since I'm usually out somewhere. I usually catch the replay on Monday nights since I have a tendency to go to bed late in the first place. Sting's appearance had a neutral effect in terms of my viewing habits. I watch TNA because overall I enjoy the product and support any wrestling alternatives to WWE. When TNA makes the shift to Thursdays come April, I will be watching the shows on Thursdays. Nick Koromon Dave, I dunno why I didn't watch last week. I did watch those previous weeks when Sting was in. I will say it does seem like they are in neutral right now until putting something serious together for the HW title with either Joe or Sting. Cheers, Ben Miller Hi Dave, first off I enjoy Observer live when it's live. Next to answer the question of the day. I feel that Impact is like a lesser funny episode of Thunder. I like older stars, newer stars, all of it but we sometimes get that at ppvs and then we don't at impact shows. Now you shouldn't put for example a DDP against a Sharkboy because one's a heavyweight and the other is a middleweight but I would like to see them both on Impact. But I guess this next observation sums it up quite nicely. Sting said he retired so why the **** should I keep watching Impact on RDS after I shelled out big bucks for the PPV. Alex Shelley has footage of Sting. Cool but Sting is not in the building. I remember an episode of Thunder where Sid phoned in his appearance. Those guys are sad at TNA. Are they gonna do this when they move to Thursday? Walter Z. About Sting's TNA debut Watched that show, and I did not watch Saturday Night. Saturdays are usually nights where I go out. Its just not a convenient time for me. Monday's at midnight don't work for me, as Tuesday is usually and early morning for me. I went out of the way to watch Sting, grew up watching him, always liked him. Maybe when he is back I will see more, but I am just usually out of the house. Impact does have some good action and sometimes great matches, but I get a headache trying to watch a 2 hour wrestling show in sixty minutes, if that makes any sense. I will say this, if Christian Cage becomes the #1 focus of the company, my interest in PV can only increase. I like Styles a lot, and AMW, and I still have interest in Sting. I have not had a desire to watch a Jeff Jarrett match since I knew he would job out to Chyna back in '99. I haven't had interest in a Dudley's match in probably 4-5 years as well. I'm not saying I won't watch because they are on there, but neither of those acts are gonna make me pony up the cash for a PPV, or even make me watch a show on a Saturday Night. There are much better uses for my time and money. ~matt Thoughts?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Sounds like it's the two problems we knew TNA would have in the Saturday night slot: Promotion and it's just not a good time for wrestling fans. That and Jarrett, who REALLY needs to go away for awhile because his character is more annoying than HHH being around for a full year.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Yeah it's very hard to develop a habit of watching something at 11 pm on Saturdays, especially a show not as established as say... SNL.

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2006 I didn't read all of the responses, but it sounds to me like people are pissed that Sting's only been on Impact once. Its move on TNA's part that I honestly don't get, quite frankly. Just how many dates does Sting have to work? 12?

Guest Timmer Report post Posted February 28, 2006 I could actually care less about Sting. I think he is actually pretty overhyped. I know that he's a big name but he bring nothing else as far as I am concerned...
