Your Scariest (Pre) Smark Wrestling Memory?

Recommended Posts

Guest DynamiteKid2K2

Before a lot of us became smarks, or if you're still a mark or whatever, each of us normally remembers a lot of good memories from way back when.  Then, there's some of those memories that kept you up at night, afraid to move.  My question to you is, what is your one memory that still haunts you to this day?  Or, otherwise, what memory do you hold that sent chills down your spine that night?

For me, there's two memories that got to me way back when.  They've gone from nightmare fodder to a sick-sorta craze that I've gone to try and find the tapes in order to watch 'em again.  Anyways, they were...

1. Brutus Beefcake/Ron Bass Incident (SummerSlam '88)

This wasn't so much afraid of blood or whatnot, but more or less the creepy red "X" that they put up with the big "CENSORED" on it.  To this day, I vividly remember a Brutus Beefcake promo where the camera didn't show his face...only his body.  That always creeped me out, for whatever reason.  Now adays, Ed Leslie getting the crap kicked out of him is enough to warrant a viewing for any smark that hates the effects that the Orange Goblin has on people.

And the more important one...

2. Jake Roberts/Randy Savage Cobra Incident

Holee shit, this was serious fear here.  I've never been a big fan of snakes, let alone when I was a young teen (I'm twenty-two now, and I'm not as deafly afraid of them as I used to be).  But man, when I first saw that on Superstars of Wrestling, I just absolutely freaked.  Of course, now adays, we all appreciate the matches that we got out of the angle between the two (no joke, they had a few awesome matches together).  Still, I got so paranoid after that incident that I through away my LJN Randy Savage figure.  I still punch myself at night over that one, btw.

I've opened the door for y'all.  I'd enjoy hearing from some of the "veteran" posters in here, but I welcome all comers to post here.

For me, it was when Jake's Corba bit Savage in the arm. Savage has some big balls to let the Corba bite him.

When Vader beat Sting I was afraid of Vader, and also I the White Castle of Fear angle.Alright I will go back to Smarkville as they make fun of me and I put my head down in shame.Anything with Sid was pretty scary too, and Papa Shango was a freaky guy if you think about it.

Thanks.

The cobra biting is up there on my list, anything Jake did in his "trust me" heel run freaked me out when I was 10.  He slammed Taker's hand in the casket and beat him with a chair, cool as hell now, pretty scary then.

When Bad News Brown make his WWF debut in early 1988. I was just a little kid at the time, and he scared the shit out of me when I saw him for the first time.

The Cobra thing is #1.  A great, yet simultaneously sick angle.

#2 - Marty Jannetty going through a window.  Brutal.

#3 - Some of the Papa Shango stuff was kind of creepy... even though I knew it was fake the thing with the Woyah throwing up was kinda skeevy.

Papa Shango was a scary bastard at first.

The one that got me was right after Nailz stole the Bossman's nightstick and beat the tar out of him with WWF Magizine published a few pages of photos.  They were picture of Ray Traylor with no shirt and his entire body was covered in nasty black bruises.  I remember taking the magizine to my dad and asking him about it.

Like someone brought up, the Nailz angle was pretty freaky. I remember being legit scared of this guy when he made his first appearance and beat the crap out of the Big Boss Man. Remember how he went out through the crowd and it seemed like everyone was too scared to even boo him?!

I also have to throw in when Taker locked Ultimate Warrior in the casket.  After they were finally able to get the casket opened, the Warrior had passed out and it looked like he tried to claw his way out.  That was damn scary to me.

Now, it's something that I hope for.  LOL

How about when Jake Roberts led the Ultimate Warrior into that dark room that contained the "secret of the Undertaker" in the little wooden casket. Jake locked the warrior in and turned on the lights to reveal hundreds of snakes all over the place. The Warrior opened the box and it had a huge cobra inside and tried to break down the door, creepy shit man.

I went to a Challenge taping in '95 and the crowd was booing MOM out of the building. Then, Mabel got on the mic and said he would come out and kick everyones asses. And I swear to you, he was looking RIGHT AT ME. I was 9 at the time, and I was like "Shutup, everybody!" Good God... -Jim

Nailz's Debut was creepy. He beat the living shit out of the bossman, that was probably the best worked beatdown i ever seen because i feared for old ray traylor's life. Andre freaked me out when i was young just because he was 7'0, stone faced, and had that evil laugh.

I remember the Savage snake bite. That was very graphic, I remember there being a big flashing "Cencored" sign over it while it was going on, but you could still see the damn thing biting his arm, and Savage bleeding. I couldn't believe that. Also at the time, when Undertaker debuted he used to defeat his opponents, put them in a body bag, give them a legdrop or elbowdrop while they were in the body bag and then drag them off to be buried alive. As a little kid you have no idea how much this perplexed and freaked me. I remember wondering how'd they get out of there.

Post-markdom the only times I literally had trouble sleeping was the night of Badd Blood after hearing Brian Pillman had died, and OTE99 after Owen had died.

I remember one like this, but it was in NWA.  The Road Warriors attacked Dusty Rhodes and used the spikes on their ringwear to carve up his face.  They had it blurred so all you could see was a red pixellated mess.  I was like 10 years old or so and this was one of the first time watching NWA so I was like wow.. this is some serious shit

Didn't Dusty get fired for that? WCW released that uncensored on one of their Turner Home Entertainment video's in 1992.

Undertaker was scary when he first debuted, there was such a presence about him back then. His music alone used to give me the chills.

Jake was also scary when he turned into a creepy heel. I remember really being sold on him being evil around the time he was involved with Savage & Liz. He was just a captivating performer who left me on edge as to what he would do next and why he would do it.

If there is one moment in wwf history which people around the same age as me and who aren't really wrestling fans remember it's the Nailz beating on Bossman. More than a few non-fans i have spoken to over the years seem to recall this particular moment which i think just goes to show how well it was done. Nobody knew who the hell this seemingly random assailant was and the beating he gave out was pretty vicious.

The dusty incident is uncesored on Greatest Grudges. Not a bad tape. The scariest incident for me was when Steamboat got his face smashed on wcw worldwide. I was horrified as a lad of 6 i think. My parents didnt let me see the cobra thing but i rented Survivor Series 91 a couple of yrs ago and it gave me goosebumps. Savage is crazy.

Did anyone else actually see the Bossman's pics from WWF Magazine?  They were brutal.

El Cubano mentioned the Roberts/Warrior angle and it was pretty freaky too as well as the Ultimate Warrior getting lock in the casket.  I thought that was legit when I was little.

My favourite pre-smark memory was probably The Undertaker vs. Undertaker match at SS 94 I think. I was pretty gullible then, and found 2 Undertakers amazing.

I must also concur with the Nailz beatdown. I was in awe watching it happen and I also saw the WWF Magazine pics of the aftermath.... that was some brutal shit for the early 90's.

Also, the Savage snake incident had me in tears when I first saw it, Randy Savage was the fucking MAN to do some serious stuff like that.

Undertaker's initial entrance at Survivor Series 90 will always stick out in my mind, too. It was so creepy that I couldn't even sleep that night for fear of Undertaker coming out of my closet and grabbing me.

A couple of WCW ones now:

GAB 92 with Sting/Vader. That was so sickening brutal that I thought Sting was DEAD awhen Vader finally powerbombed him for the pin. I had tears in my eyes when Sting finally lost because he had been one of my favorites back then. Kudos to the man for doing the MEGA job for Vader.

Dusty getting cut up by LOD. I was like 9 at the time and it was the first time I had seen so much blood being shed by one person.

One of my earliest wrestling memories was Roddy Piper getting beaten down on the set of "The Flower Shop" by Adrian Adonis and Bob Orton. Piper had just finished talking about how he had kids at home and didn't want them watching this kind of stuff. I remember I felt so sorry for this guy who just got beat up on TV with his kids watching. I was hooked on wrestling the rest of my life.

The scariest moment for me though was a live Stampede show back in the mid-to-late eighties. Don't remember who wrestled but blood and chairs were flying everywhere. Fans were running for cover, it was a damn near riot. It was a pretty frightening scene for a kid, especially when all you were used to was WWF house shows.

Nailz also scared the shit out of me. Also-

Vader breaking Sting's ribs

nWo murdering Rey Mysterio

Papa Shango-Warrior stuff was freaky

I used to hate Ric Flair with a passion during his Savage feud. He was just such a huge fuck that he gave me the willies

I can't remember the vicious Nailz beatdown that everyone talks about.  Was it on TV or a PPV?

I was always scared of Doink the Clown. I never went to a live show when I was little because I thought he'd find me in the audience and hit me with that mallet thing or squirt me with water.

I was always pretty freaked of the Undertaker too.
