A senior at Farmington High School died Wednesday morning while shoveling snow for a snow removal service in Inver Grove Heights.

John Beeney Jr., 18, lived in Castle Rock Township. A cause of death was undetermined.

Police dispatchers received a call at 3:50 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Robert Trail in Inver Grove Heights, according to Lt. Jerry Salmey, with Inver Grove Heights police department, and squads were dispatched and transported Beeney to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Beeney sung in the a cappella singing group New Dimension at the high school with his fellow classmates for an audience Tuesday evening at the American Legion in Farmington.

Grief counselors who work as counselors at the high school were available for students and local Farmington ministers in the Farmington Ministerial Association were contacted to come talk to students if needed. Each teacher brought the news to his or her class Wednesday morning, according to Aaron Tinklenberg, communications specialist for District 192.

High school students expressed sorrow for Beeney’s death on the front of the high school writing on the brick façade with wet snow, “We Miss You Beeney.”

I fully expect to see Truth commercials telling me not to shovel my driveway now.
