A new RVD interview with some good things in it..

Recommended Posts

I recall a thread a while back quoting the Observer saying that the idea in mind was HHH/RVD at the ECW PPV. I'd assume that would involve RVD cashing in the MITB. This was more speculating than spoiler though.

Also, the initial roster for this match had Carlito and Masters in the spots Shelton and Flair ended up in (I believe Shelton and Flair were going to have a singles IC match). The SD guys ended up being the same. Given RVD's 4th place finish at the Rumble and finishing in the finals of the Raw tourney, it should be a flat out no brainer that he wins this match. I mean we saw how slow Flair climbs a ladder against one opponent...how the hell would he believably climb a ladder against 5?

Flair winning though? Meh. I'd assume he'd cash it in on a PPV, but I don't think there's a whole lot of interest in a 57 year old Ric Flair trying to get a 17th world title. Compared to someone like RVD going after that ONE world title that's eluded him his entire career?

He didn't even win he ECW world title. Don't you think he should hunt down Rhyno and go after that one first?

That means RVD would have to be fired/released from WWE and sign with TNA. I'm not sure if TNA would let Rhino use a defunct promotion's belt to hold for one night, though.

Besides didn't that belt get stolen from him or was that the TV title?

RVD's been hit or miss his whole career. He really doesn't know how to work other then his own style. It's up to the guy he's in the ring with to figure out how to have a decent match with him.

gotta agree.....I mean Rolling Thunder give me a break.

I know everyone despises talk about bringing ECW back and it's very stereotyped smarkish of me but this would be a golden opportunity for WWE to put a spark to their product for the summer months.

RVD beats HHH for the WWE title at the ECW PPV and throws the tosses the title to the floor, Paul Heyman brings an ECW championship belt to the ring and presents it to RVD. RVD does a shoot saying the ECW title means more to him than the WWE championship and now that he broken through the glass ceiling World Wrestling Entertainment means nothing to him.

Negotiate a late night deal for an additional hour of tv time on USA.

Give Heyman the book for that hour of television. Tape once month from the Hammerstein Ballroom. McMahon can fire Joey Styles from the Raw announce team, prompting Styles to go to the ECW show and Jim Ross to come back to Raw.

The entire cruiserweight division can go to ECW along with underutilized Raw and Smackdown guys like Steve Regal, Steve Richards, etc.

Could it really be that bad?????

It's an intriguing idea but come on...do you see Vince letting a guy win his world title, then throw it down and proclaim a defunct promotion's belt better?

Hell, all I had in mind was RVD winning the MITB, cashing it in at ONS, and then maybe defending it at Vengeance before jobbing at Summerslam.

One thing about Flair and the MITB. Is this really a new storyline? I bet Flair has had that "one last run" about 10 times since he's been in WWE (2001-2006). Flair has a world of wrestling knowledge he can pass on to the younger guys, so I think he's better off in that sort of role at this late stage.

I guess here is where Bischoff was a little smarter. If something like this did happen, it would be along the lines of Hall and Nash showing up on Nitro and completely trashing WCW. It would make for some interesting television instead of the same old crap. But Vince wouldn't do it because the product he made (nevermind that he owns them all) would look temporarily inferior.

If you watched RVD in his early WWE/F days, or his ECW days, he hasn't been the same since coming back. There is no denying it. However, I still feel he has been decent enough since he's been back. Some of you act like it is easy to just be out of the ring for a year with an injury and come back and be as good or better than you used to be.

Personally I was never a huge RVD fan to begin with. His moves don't look like they would hurt anybody even though some of them look good. He is athletic there is no denying that. He can't wrestle a REAL wrestling match, though in my opinion. A spotfest or ECW style match? Of course, he's one of the best at those, but not in a true wrestling sense (ala Angle, Benoit, Joe, etc.) This is just opinon, and it's all about what you the fan personally likes and does not like anyway.

I like the ECW idea, but I doubt Vinny Mac is going to pull anything like that. It's a nice thought though.

I have no problem with Flair winning MITB... Actually, I don't really have a problem with anyone in that match winning...

I just hope that the MITB tradition (if they decide to make it a tradition) is not that the winner of this match gets a "transitional" reign and nothing more... I think they really should have left the belt on Edge, as he is a better champ than Cena... I think Cena is better in the "hunter" (no pun intended with Triple H) role than the "hunted" role....

I want to see someone actually win this match, then carry that strap for a significant amount of time... Whomever it may be...

No, I really don't expect Vince to allow any of that. Nor would I expect HHH to job to RVD and never get his win back. I still think it would be an intriguing idea. I know ECW as it was is dead it wouldn't be the same ECW but it would be WWE's chance to make up for the invasion disaster, continue banking off of the ECW brand name and give that particular fanbase a product geared towards them. Heyman can still develop talent like he has in OVW only to feed them to WWE later.

I just think it would be one hell of an angle. They could bill it as the ECW Screwjob or something. It's also playing off of ECW history given the fact that it's indenticle to Shane Douglas pitching the NWA championship. It makes sense for RVD to be the main guy as he's really all that's left in terms of marketable original ECW talent signed to WWE.

The broadcast could get blackened out and cut off as RVD's shoot gets more heated. The next night on RAW, they can just have HHH come to the ring with the WWE title and pretend like nothing ever happened, doing an interview building towards his next title defense. Joey Styles could say something about HHH really losing the championship to RVD the previous night, commenting that he's being told in his headset not to talk about it but it was a historic night in wrestling and needs to be talked about. This leads to Jim Ross mysteriously sitting in the booth after the commercial break and calling the rest of Raw.

Later in the night, RVD and Paul Heyman could appear in the crowd during HHH's WWE title match only to be escorted out to police. Heyman comments that he has 'a proposition for Vince and needs to talk to Vince' only to be taken out of the building. On Smackdown that week, the cruisers grow frustrated about not being left off the show and quit only to be caught on camera getting into a limo with Heyman and RVD.

I don't know, I'm bored at work in case you can't tell. ECW is dead, I know.

His match with Orton disagrees with that last statement, and before you say Orton carried him, lets not forget Orton's post match comments about how RVD was a true professional mapping out the entire rest of the match while Orton could barely stand up.

It's not JUST a "style class" I mean HHH and Big Show don't work RVD's style and RVD managed to make that match watchable.

Plenty of workers with different styles can mesh together, when there is proper motivation.
