I'm pulling for the guy because he's one of my favorite boxers. And I think that people should have the right to put themselves in danger, if they so choose as long as it doesnt hurt anyone else.

Still, this is a pretty big story for boxing fans.

I kinda hope he retired bc he's taking a big risk getting the ring again.

I think it's a terribly selfish move. If the guy dies in the ring, it's going to be another black eye to a sport that already has a shiner, a broken nose, crooked jaw, and dementia pugilistica.

If he's cleared by docs and the boxing commission, it's his call. I'd hope that either his camp/commission would run a case like was done to Evander Holyfield. Throwing in the towel on a beaten man who doesn't know when enough's enough.

Well the thing is, the guy isn't that great of a boxer to begin with. I mean I guess that is besides the point, but just saying.

That's what I thought, too...

He got lots of local pub in Buffalo, but I never thought he was anything on the national level. He only fought a bunch of scrubs, and whined constantly about how he wanted to fight Tyson, Rahman, etc... I'm surprised to even see a thread about him here.

Personally I'd admire the guy for risking everything to acomplish his dream. He can only hurt himself.

He could certainly hurt whoever he gets into the ring with.

But with boxing I guess everyone assumes that danger.

At the time of his injury, he was the #1 contender in the WBO for the heavyweight title. He may not have beaten many 'name' opponents, but the guy has a ton of market value due to his look.

And considering the 13th ranked russian guy just beat Brewster, I think Mesi has a chance be a factor again in the division.

If you want a 'name' value fight that will sell...

Joe Mesi vs Roy Jones Jr would make a ton of dough. People want to see Mesi fight a legit fighter, and Roy Jones will always be able to live off his name.

I dunno if people would care to see Roy Jones Jr. fight anymore. I know I certainly wouldn't, especially as a Heavyweight.

Yeah but being the #1 contender means about a tenth of what it used to. Hell tonight Liakhovich came into his championship ranked# 13 and took the Heavyweight Champion to task.

I am not sure how many people would be exited about RJJ fighting. Especially as a Heavyweight.

Maybe they could throw Mesi in with Samual Peter.

As far as Joe fighting... well, it's his choice. I just don't want to hear any crying if he does die because of it.

The thing with blood on the brain is that many times there's no symptoms of it, until you're already dead. So, does Joe need to have his brain checked out after every fight from now on, or even need surgeries? I know there's no evidence that shows another hematoma is more likely just because he had one before... but, I don't know. It's not like there's been people willingly going back to getting punched repeatedly in the head after this, either.

Mesi won 80-72 in the 8 round fight with journeymen Ron Bellamy.

Mesi is now 30-0 with 25KO's.

His team says they want to fight again in June against another scrub.

I really question why Showtime didn't air the undercard of the Brewster/Liakhovich fight. I mean it would seem there would have been moderate interest in seeing Mesi fight again.

He got his career put on hold by a fighter who is a cruiserweight and got KO'd by 40 year old Michael Moreer.

Says alot about Mesi's skills.

Monte Barret got robbed againest him.
