NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2006 Well Showtime wins another round, this time in the heavyweight division. HBO gave us Toney vs. Rahman, and Showtime delivers one of the best HW fights in recent years, as Liakhovich upsets Lamon Brewster by Unanimous decision. Anyone else see this fight? After the snorefest that was Rahman/Toney, I'd definately rather see Liakhovich either give Brewster a rematch next, or fight the winner of Klitschko/Byrd. Guest JustPassinBy Report post Posted April 2, 2006 I saw it was a tremenous fight. Each fighter must have chins made of granite bc they each took some massive shots. Even though this was an upset, it really didnt seem like it. The Russian guy surprised me with his speed and skills. Brewster threw some huge power shots, but I think Brewster coming in at one of his most heaviest weights hurt him. He looked tired and wasnt as active as previous fights. I think Jeff Lacy and Zab Judah losing earlier in the year as bigger upsets. But tonite might have been the best fight showtime has had this year.

I think this fight agains raises real questions about Brewster. I mean the guys has HEART, he doesn't quit, but he never seems to fight smart fights or adapt to his opponent. Before this fight, and ignoring the Golota fight, his punching power has bailed him out almost always. Kind of like a poor-man's Tyson. (Well Tyson from another era that is)
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2006 Calzaghe beating Lacy wasn't an upset, if you look at it. Lacy is a one demensional fighter and Calzaghe has better skills overall. Lacy was waiting to get exposed. Haven't seen this fight yet, but from what I'm hearing it was a close fight and a rematch is in the works.
