Prank Calls via Cell Phone

My friend is having problems with someone who keeps prank calling her cell phone with a cell phone of their own. She knows it's a cell phone because of the number, and also because when she calls the number it leaves a "this person has a voice mailbox that has not been set up yet." She feels that going to the cops and giving them this person's cell number would be useless in trying to determine this person's identity because of the fact it is a cell phone and not a land line. I don't see any other option for her than to get her number changed, unless their is some other way i'm not seeing in which the cops can figure out whoever is behind this. Anybody have any ideas?

Yeah. If the prank caller is dumb enough to use a cell phone, then go right on ahead and do it. But it'd suck if these "prank calls" were actually just somebody dialing the wrong number over and over again thinking it's the right one.

Its easily to trace and block. She can go to the Police and get the number traced and blocked from that caller.

Sometimes you don't even need to go to the cops. I've been able to block a number or two on my phone. Some cell phones have the block number option if you can find it. It's a pain in the ass sometimes depending on which company you are using.

I like the fact the person wasn't smart enough to dial *67 before the number to disable the caller ID.

Go to the police station, or call them on a nonemergency line. Explain the situation. If you call them, an officer will go to your location and take a report. Update him as the calls continue, if they should indeed continute. (He should have at this point called the suspect and identified himself as a man of the law)

 

At this point, a subpoena will be issued, and the police department will call the cellphone provider and get billing information. From here, a summons will be issued to the culprit for phone harrassment.

 

 

As a forewarning, if it's a tracphone user, there's not too much that can be done because they are the type of provider to not get subscriber information, which is deadly in the event of an emergency, but I digress.

The best ones are when you turn the tables on them and they stick on the phone for long enough so you can start making fun of them for wasting their time on calling you on a lame joke.

 

I think the best way to just block the number is to let that person leave a voicemail. If that person leaves a message I think your phone will give you the option to block that number. My old cell phone and my current cell phone both give me that option whenever someone leaves a voicemail.
