Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 9, 2002 Lewis will go on to defend against Byrd...then maybe unify the titles. If Tyson wants to fight again...well...I'll pay to see Tyson vs. Tua. And if Tyson wins people would probably pay to see him vs. Lewis again.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 10, 2002 Lennox Lewis is British. He was born in Jamaica.
Guest Report post Posted June 10, 2002 That being said, someone in Tyson's corner should have been tougher with him. Instead of pleading with him to throw punches, his trainer should have got up in his face and cussed him out. Take Mike back to the early days, and tell him "You're fucking Iron Mike Tyson. You should not be getting your ass beat by some big Jamaican motherfucker." Shit, maybe he should have slapped Mike to wake him up. Sure, Mike may have swung at him, but someone needed to wake his ass up. Okay, now that I've got that out...Tyson needs two more fights before any rematch with Lewis. Fight someone with a sturdy chin first, like a Ray Mercer. Then fight someone upper-ecehlon like Rahman, Klitschko, or Kirk Johnson. Then fight Lewis. Thing is, Lewis may have retired by then. LOL I thought the same thing while the fight was going on... As a manic depressive I saw a strange look on tyson's face that I get from time to time...I call it "Being extremely depressed for a reason I can't possibly express" look I think the way tyson was damn near in tears before the fight even started and the worried look on lewis' face AFTER the fight especially when tyson said "Thanks for the nice payday" ... tells me the fight was FIXED.... what does everyone thnk
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted June 10, 2002 Lennox Lewis is british, even if he was born in jamaica. example. If I was born in Africa woul that make me african although I'm white and aint of african heritage.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 10, 2002 Lennox Lewis was born 02/09/1965 in West Ham, London, England.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 10, 2002 example. If I was born in Africa woul that make me african although I'm white and aint of african heritage. That's similar to what I say when I say I'm Irish and people accuse me of being English just because I was born in England!

Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 10, 2002 "example. If I was born in Africa woul that make me african although I'm white and aint of african heritage" Yes, that would make you African because you would have African citizenship because that would be the country of your birth. You could have dual citizenship, but you would always be technically African.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted June 10, 2002 *SCREEEEEEEEEEECH* All right, having pulled the thread back on topic, all I can say is that I didn't see the fight...but judging by what has been said and heart (Tyson didn't put up a fight, the "thanks for the payday remark", Tyson's goofy look after the match), my big initial impulse says that somebody paid Tyson a huge sum to take the fall, maybe even boxing officials who didn't want to "shame" the sport with Tyson's presence at the top again. Just a thought. And anyway, do you really think Mike would have cared (or known) if Lennox was British or Jamaican?
Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 10, 2002 I was going for Tyson even though I knew he wasn't going to win. He wasn't prepared for it a all. But it was still watching it. I saw it on a cruise in a huge lounge that sits like 1000 people. It was crazy. People were cheering booing, throwing shit at the 25 foot screen. The atmosphere in ther made the match 10 times better.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 10, 2002 I am assuming you haven't seen Tyson's two bloody, swollen eyes yet. It looked like Lewis did a number on him.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 10, 2002 BTW, Lewis has a Jamaican mother.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 10, 2002 *SCREEEEEEEEEEECH* And anyway, do you really think Mike would have cared (or known) if Lennox was British or Jamaican? It all depends on how deep into Mike's psych his trainer was willing to go. I was thinking about this after the fight. If they had been like, "Man, you're fuckin' Dirty Mike (his nickname when he was like 12) from Brooklyn! You can't let this Jamaican (he has dreads and I'd heard he came to Canada from Jamaica, but anyway) motherfucker beat your ass like this!" He might have put up a fight. You see, Mike started fighting after a childhood of being bullied and such. So taking it back to that "street cred" mentality may have been good for him. If you watch Mike's old fights, he fought like those dudes stole from him or something. He fought like he knew his boys on the block would talk shit about him if he lost. That's what I meant. They could call him Jamaican or British or whatever, you reinforce the fact that this guy's an outsider coming into your 'hood trying to beat your ass in front of EVERYBODY. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted June 10, 2002 then maybe unify the titles Boxers shouldn't even dignify the alphabet organizations anymore. John Ruiz is no more any part of the heavyweight championship of the World than I am. In any case, Wladimir Klitschco (sp?) is fighting Ray Mercer later this month. I think the winner of that fight should fight Lennox Lewis next. I hear Klitschco's one of the top contenders, and Mercer's probably the best boxer of the last 20 years not to get a title shot. and FWIW, I'd like to see Evander Holyfield fight Roy Jones next. Guest DrTom Report post Posted June 10, 2002 "Thing is, Lewis may have retired by then." I've noticed that boxing retirements only tend to last about two years at the most. How many times did Sugar Ray Leonard come out of "retirement?" Or George Foreman? Hell, isn't Larry "I'm About 60 Years Old" Holmes supposed to fight Butterbean soon? Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted June 10, 2002 I'm believing this fix stuff. Why did he thank him for the payday? Why was he so quick to ask for a rematch? Why was he so confident he could beat him? I think that the first round was Tyson sending his message to Lewis that he was a better fighter, then rather than making it look like he had tried really hard to win, he did nothing and collected a lot of money for it, much more than his share of the purse. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 11, 2002 MAn...I swear there is nothing that Lewis can do to get any credit. HE KICKED TYSONS ASS. Plain and simple. Tyson has fought what? 19 rounds in the last 3 years...4 years? and he is WAY past his prime. And he gets dominated by big men (hello Evander Holyfieild (who LEwis also beat)). Lewis was focused and proved why he is the best fighter of the era. Period.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 11, 2002 The current boxing landscape is littered with big guys who can't box worth a damn.
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted June 11, 2002 I read the article on Tyson when he was on the cover of SI, and this was a critical fight for him as in payday because he's broke and losing to Lewis makes him less credible and he has to keep on boxing in his 40's to be set. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 11, 2002 Where does all of Mike's money go? He's getting like 20 mil. a fight! He should (theoretically) be set for life after Saturday's fight.
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted June 11, 2002 He's in serious debt 3 unpaid house's of his, maintence to all three of them and some other stuff I'll look it up later.

How many times did Sugar Ray Leonard come out of "retirement?" Or George Foreman? Hell, isn't Larry "I'm About 60 Years Old" Holmes supposed to fight Butterbean soon? However, Foreman and Sugay Ray lost their last fights. Foreman retired after Ali beat him and Sugar Ray retired after just about every loss he suffered. But Lewis has seemed really serious about Mike Tyson being the last hurdle he had to clear before retiring, and I wouldn't doubt if he doesn't retire as champ. I mean, he's beat every top heavyweight of his era except for Riddick Bowe, and Bowe can't fight anymore. Lewis has beat Holyfield, Tyson, and anyone else viewed as a threat. Why not retire? Well, seeing that pretty much everyone gets a title shot these days, the fact that Ray Mercer hasn't got one should tell you something. I mean, who has Ray Mercer ever beat? Tommy Morrison? I'm assuming you want to see Evander vs. Roy Jones so Jones can completely embarrass and retire Holyfield.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted June 11, 2002 Ray Mercer has always been one fight away. He almost fought Holyfield and he lost to Larry Holmes right before. I'm only suggesting he get a shot if he beats Klitschco, which would be a huge upset. Jones I want to see fight Holyfield because I want to see Jones fight SOMEONE with a chance of actually defeating him. Holyfield would be a challenge simply because he's a heavyweight. Foreman retired after Ali beat him Actually, Foreman fought exhibitions in '75 and then fought six more fights, retiring after Jimmy Young beat him on points in '77. Guest Report post Posted June 11, 2002 I think Klitschco is big enough and has the skill to beat lewis. After the fight I am definitly down with a new division being made. Lewis is too big for the heavyweights, When their is such a difference in size, he won;t be beaten. --Rob
