Dumbass gives Feds more ammunition in the shutting down of video games

Columbine High School video game draws criticism from victims' relatives

DENVER (AP) — An online game based on the Columbine High School massacre is drawing criticism from relatives of those who died in the 1999 attack, including a father who says it trivializes the actions of the two teen killers.

The game, Super Columbine Massacre RPG, was posted on a Web site last year, but is becoming more popular now. It draws on investigative material, including images of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, who killed 12 classmates and a teacher before committing suicide.

The game also includes crime scene photos of the killers and images of students running and crying, though it does not have photos of any victims.

"We live in a culture of death, so it doesn't surprise me that this stuff has become so commonplace," said Brian Rohrbough, whose son, Daniel, was among those slain that day. "It disgusts me. You trivialize the actions of two murderers and the lives of the innocent."

The site's creator told the Rocky Mountain News he wanted to make something that would "promote a real dialogue on the subject of school shootings."

The creator, who identified himself in an e-mail interview only by the name "Columbin," said he was inspired to make the game because he was in Colorado at the time of the attack.

"I was a bullied kid. I didn't fit in, and I was surrounded by a culture of elitism as espoused by our school's athletes." He added that he considered the killers, at times, "very thoughtful, sensitive and intelligent young men."

Richard Castaldo, who was paralyzed from the chest down in the attack, played the game after reading about it on a gaming Web site. He said it reminded him of the 2003 film "Elephant," which follows students and others on the day of a school massacre without assigning reasons or blame for the bloodshed.

"It didn't make me mad, just kind of confused me," he said. "Parts of it were difficult to play through, but overall, I get the feeling it might even be helpful in some ways. I don't think it's bad to discuss."

Does anyone else think this idiot should be disowned by everyone who knows him?

Is the game illegally sold at shopping malls and "reviewed" by dumbasses?

...no.

How does this give them ammo? It's not like they're profiting off it unless someone actually did donate to their PayPal. It's just a stupid web game at the end of the day. It's not even recent, having been released last year and it wouldn't even have received all this attention, much less any, were it not suddenly published by the News in trying to create a story.

Granted, the homepage is awful, but I tried it out. It's well done, isn't in extremely bad taste (relative) and remains objective as far as I've seen, never celebrating the shootings, going more into the issues surrounding the shooting, Dylan and Klebold's mindset, and effects afterward.

I don't know, condemning it right off the bat without actually playing it is as bad as the politicians, soccer moms and sleazy lawyers trying to throw wrenches in the gaming (and entertainment) industry and create a name for themselves in the name of protecting the children.

A non-story as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm, I guess I didn't see it that way.

As for the rest of the people in this thread, WTF are they talking about?

They're talking about the fact that you used to post here as CronoT. It would be best if you just ignored it, much like Hawk 34 does whenever someone calls him Choken One. By the way, I'm not buying that "Hawk isn't Choken" thing. Not that I care, because Hawk is a good poster. But if *KNK* was Choken, then Hawk has to be, because they post almost exactly the same, except that Hawk places commas in inappropriate places, which I think is an intentional error on his part in order to lead people away from figuring out his PBP status.

But all this is neither here nor there. The fact is, InuYasha, you have a 95 percent chance of being CronoT. Again, though, I don't mind. I never thought you really did anything which was worthy of being banned. Just try to make it less obvious, OK?

McInturff says the Schiavo matter had an "anti-Midas touch." "Everyone who touched it, people lost respect for," he said.

Leena may have lots of threads about her, but did anyone ever make an entire message board called Bitch-slapping Leena? I THINK NOT.

Pshaw. Details. Wow, that whole Wrestlestars thing was like a year ago.

This is like that story about the "shoot Mexican immigrants" game that came out a couple weeks ago. They try to play it off like this is the hottest new violent video game, like Grand Theft Auto, when realistically very few people have actually played it, or would care to.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Hawk34 = KNK = Choken One. KNK doesn't post anymore and all of a sudden there's another poster who writes just like he does, is a fellow big time fan of the Gilmore Girls, is obsessed with ROH/big fan of the Joe/Punk II match and he also can't stop posting about me. All charactoristics of KNK. I find it funny that he's now snobbing and on top of that being jealous of me.

I don't know about Inuyasha being CronoT though. I haven't done any research on the matter but didn't both of these guys post at the same time before? Could be the same person but I'm not buying it as I think they have some different tendacies.

At least with the rise of wildpegasus, Crono is no longer the nerdiest poster here.

And I'm proud ot it! If you're gonna be good at something than you may as well go all out at it. CronoT gets an undeserved rep though. I always liked the guy.

He came along a while after Crono was banned. I still don't think they're the same guy. Too many differences in their political posts.

They're different? I thought both hated Bush and the GOP.

The title of the post--lame IMO. This is hardly Hot Coffee or anything even close to it. After all, from time to time way more vile software has seen limited distribution online, i.e. Ethnic Cleansing.

However, it isn't any respectable retailers' aisles, so big whoop.

The content of the post? Forgivable, because plenty of gaming sites have dubbed this newsworthy. Hell, it's a slow time for gaming these days. Heading into summer, all we've had lately is New Super Mario Bros. and a handful of crappy licensed games.

CronoT = InuYasha? There's no doubt in my mind they're the same. Same tastes, writing style, penchant for stupid topics with hyperbolic titles--but IY has attempted to be actively helpful here and there, so it's no biggie. Although when IY debuted I wasted no time flaming him for a particularly stupid comment.

Hawk's an okay poster--I don't mind him being back at all. Neither one of them are as horrible as the return of Anglesault as Dam(o)nYankees, who could only be more blatant if he had Daria as his avatar. He couldn't have tried to abstain from the baseball stuff, even a little?

At least CT picked a different overrated hack Japanese manga artist to base his persona over.

We have the ignore feature now, though, folks. Feel free to use it, and avoid any topics by posters you don't like.

I point to this as something Crono likely wouldn't have posted.

Whatever. I don't care. I even want him back, for crying out loud. An endless source of entertainment.

The sad truth is, Muslims are the ultimate captive audience. Almost all of their "religious leaders," and notice I used quotation marks, are calling for people to kill.

Personally, I feel that Muslim Extremists are the worst global threat since Nazism.

CronoT shares those views!

I honestly don't remember enough about CT's political leanings to say, but eh. I don't recall him as wellspring of tolerance and diplomacy.

A moron by any other name/ideology, etc.
