The guy joked around and put the mask on, at which point the mask took him over. Kind of like the Jim Carrey movie, The Mask, once you put on the mask you turn into a completely different person. It would explain why Kane's mask was taunting him on the titantron and it would also explain where the hell the second Kane came from in the first place.
