NES stopped working?

Recommended Posts

Just found out about this site from a friend, when I mentioned my NES problems. He's actually done the repairs on his NES himself, and all you need is a single replacement part and a screwdriver.

I'm going to try it myself. Yeah, playing NES games on an NES seems rather quaint, but I guess I'm funny like that.

Video game stores such as GameXchange have been replacing 72 pin connectors for years now, usually for around $10. I've replaced the connectors on 2 separate NES systems and they both worked perfectly afterwards.

Okay, got my new connector and went for it. Here are my results:

- the installation:

Removed the casing, shield, and cart thing. When I actually saw the old connector I was a bit worried. It actually looked fine, not with noticeable tarnish or warping. I did the replacement and put the NES back together.

-Castlevania 3 : Wait..the cartridge is supposed to connect firmly to the system? Wait--I never saw that village before in the intro! Hey, no huge discolored titles!

However, when I popped in Ninja Gaiden, while the game never really crashed, the colors will often flash (kind of a negative effect that goes on-off) when I fall into a pit and die. Is this normal?

I've dared to shake the system and rap my knuckles on the lid while playing without any problems, too. So that seemed to definitely be the major cause of the problems I had.

Now that I got it working right, maybe I can play more of this game, which I foolishly paid a dollar for thinking it was the beat 'em up like in the arcade:

(Warning: Lots of swearing...)

Yeah, it is that bad....

I LOOOVED that game. The dam is as easy as anything. Why do people have trouble with it?

My hardest part while beating the game was just knowing that it was possible to make a jump in the sewers. I was stuck there for a long time.

God, I remember that game as a kid.

I remember I fucking hated that game as a kid. Played it like everyday, but still fucking hated it. I don't even remember if I got past the second level, because whenever I think of it, all I think about is swimming around in those pink things. That review brings back quite a few memories..partly because I agree with him so much.

I mean, if that guy has trouble, how the hell you think that feels for a like 4 yr old? Or however old I was. :( Horrible game, to beat.

Yes, yes you do.

Be careful with ordering shit on the internet, man.

Dude may have just misplaced your order. It happens. If you can't get into contact with him, though, then that's a bad sign.
