Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Does anybody here want to see the upcoming Scooby Doo movie? I'm certainly not. The CGI of Scooby looks nothing like his "cartoon self", although the voice was decent enough. The guy who plays Shaggy looks to have a sense of his character, but he still doesn't look right. None of them do. This is also forgetting the fact that "Scooby Doo" and its countless generations of demon spawn are the most overrated cartoon series ever. A bane to cartoon-dom, "Scooby Doo" is perhaps the only show that is allowed to rehash its plot IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE as part of its "gimmick". Admittedly, its characters can be funny at times, but most of the time they are just as annoying as the consistently dumb "mysteries". How did this show become so damn popular in the first place? It's got a psychotic following like "Dragonball Z", of bajillions of fans who buy into it because mainstream media has said its somehow "cool", not realizing how uninspired and/or a poor show it is, and refusing to believe otherwise, yet not being able to come up with a legitimate reason for liking it. I have always thought the feature film version to be a stupid idea... I'd love to say it'll be a $90 million bomb, but there are enough stupid Scooby Doo fans that it'll probably be a hit, but then again, how well do the DTV animated movies of it do?
Guest J*ingus Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Except for the shot at Dragonball Z, I pretty much agree with everything you said. Although I do thing that Matthew Lilliard seems to have copied Shaggy's voice to a creepy perfection.
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 the movie looks dumb, and on top of that, the actors/acrtress's all suck. I can't wait till it bombs --Rob
Guest El Satanico Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Actually the guy playing Shaggy isn't that bad of an actor...he fucking ruled in "SLC Punk". In fact he's the only reason why i honestly care to see it. We don't know the girl playing Velma so hard to say if she sucks. Sheesh people you say the movie looks stupid like it's some big surprise. I actually like the cartoon but it was a stupid show so of course the movie is going to look stupid. What's next..."that new Shakespeare movie looks too damn serious and dramatic".
Guest starvenger Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I saw the HBO "making of" special the other day. Now ordinarily these BJ specials are supposed to make you WANT to see the movie. Not so in this case. It seems to try and maintain the cheeziness of the TV Show while making it serious at the same time. Well, it worked for the last 2 Batman movies, right? But looking beyond that, Freddie Prinze Jr is in it, so how good could it have been to begin with?
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I've hated Scooby Doo ever since I was a wee little child. So, no, I'm never seeing this movie. Plus, I can't stand Matthew Lilliard [the only reason I like SLC is for BOB!] or Fred Prinze. PLUS, they teased me and made me think that the trailer was for a new Batman movie.. fuckers!
Guest What?! Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 But looking beyond that, Freddie Prinze Jr is in it, so how good could it have been to begin with? I was just about to say that. I mean really, all his movies where he's been the lead role have bombed. Shouldn't Hollywood get the clue already. I mean even Vince would've stopped pushing him right now.
Guest Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Yeah, Id rather stab my eyes out with a pen than see this movie. Seriously, I bowed my head in shame when i saw the preview for it. I think if I did see it, I would laugh soo hard just because it is sooo STUPID!!!!!
Guest Kinetic Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Preach on, Evenflow. Scooby-Doo is the dumbest, lamest, most repetitive cartoon ever produced. The only redeemable thing in the whole series of cartoons it's spawned is A Pup Named Scooby-Doo which, in turn, is only good because of the Red Herring running gag. Oh, and I'll admit to being at least a little fond of Scrappy-Doo. But that's it. The only way the film could be any good is if they'd give Scrappy a part or somehow manage to incorporate the Harlem Globetrotters. That is all.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 i love scooby and shaggy. i grew up watching them and here i am a 21 year old and I still manage to watch a few episodes a week. i can't wait to get fucked up and go see this movie.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 it really hasnt been advertised enough so i think it will debut around 7 or 8 and make less than $30 million. They should have had scrappy. Scrappy was the best.
Guest razazteca Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Scooby Doo is a classic cartoon on the same line as the Flintstones and will probably make the same amount of money at the box office. Matthew Illard is perfect for the role of Shaggy, while the rest of the cast is bleh....Freddie Prince and Buffy always seem to be in the same movies, WTF. The Outkast music video for the movie is funny!!!!! It hints of the Urban Legends of what Scooby Snacks is and the Mystery Machine is always smokey!!!
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 My guess is freddie and buffy never want to be apart. That is, until they get divorced in 5 yrs. Freddie at least looks like...well Fred. And Buffy resembles Daphne but im not so sure about Velma.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 The Outkast music video for the movie is funny!!!!! It hints of the Urban Legends of what Scooby Snacks is and the Mystery Machine is always smokey!!! HA HA HA I know why. Doobie Snacks!
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 God, the first time I saw a TV ad for this abortion of a movie I almost wanted to throw something at the TV screen. It's been a while since I've seen the Scooby Doo cartoon, but when comparing the toon to the movie I have one observation: Shouldn't the Fred actor be more buff than Shaggy? Shaggy looks like he's on roids when standing next to Fred.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 I like Matthew Lillard. I liked him in SLC Punk, 13 Ghosts, Scream (so SUE ME! I liked Scream!), and Hackers, especially Hackers, and he does have the Shaggy voice down, so I'll wait until it's on cable and avoid it then, probably, too.
Guest Risk Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 I think SMG is perfect as Daphne, ditto with Lillard. Freddie Prince Jr. is only in it because he is Sarah's boyfriend. So, whatever. I'll go see it, mostly because of SMG(I'm a big Buffy mark and like Lillard).
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 why is Matthew Lillard always in Freddy Prinze's movies? Although Lillard makes a good idiot, do they really need Freddy Prinze to be playing a guy who looks really gay...o wait and the most annoying thing about DBZ are their fans they say things like "sux0rz" and talk in AnNoYiNg CaPs
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 The Outkast music video for the movie is funny!!!!! It hints of the Urban Legends of what Scooby Snacks is and the Mystery Machine is always smokey!!! HA HA HA I know why. Doobie Snacks! Didn't they do that gag already in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back?
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 It was probably much funnier in jay and silent bob.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 And in JASBSB there was still a Buffy 'star' playing one of them, except it was the Fearless Vampire Hunters boyfriend guy playing fred. And thankfully, they cut out the dog boner part
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 The Outkast music video for the movie is funny!!!!! It hints of the Urban Legends of what Scooby Snacks is and the Mystery Machine is always smokey!!! HA HA HA I know why. Doobie Snacks! Didn't they do that gag already in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? that's where the quote was from.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Yeah, Scooby Doo was definitely not original...because EVERY cartoon from the 70's was a parody of B-Movies...yep, definitely... The fact that you people say the show wasn't original proves to me that you really must love the anime...since every single fucking anime is the fucking same, so any cartoon that is MEANT to be cheesy and redundant and stupid as fuck (read: Scooby Doo Mysteries) must suck... Fuck you all. Shaggy owns you. Now...if you were to talk about Scrappy in a negative light, that's a different story...nobody likes Scrappy... You're all just mad because you never "got it."
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Didnt the original show start in the late 60s? Scrappy rules!! Never diss scrappy. Scrappy OWNS YOU!
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 No, I "got it" all right, it just wasn't funny. Perhaps if they made it like the newer animated films where the MONSTERS ARE REAL~! it would've been much more interesting in the first place. As it is it's just stupid, jokes and spots that may almost be funny the first time, repeated EVERY SINGLE EPISODE! ARGH! It's just really hard to care about the misadventures of Scooby Doo and the Ultra-Spooky Black-Lagoony Demonic-Witch when nobody is ever in any real danger and you know that it will turn out to be Mrs. Jones trying to scare people away from her property because of the hidden gold/minerals on it.
Guest fazzle Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 I might go see it only because.. *spoilers ahead* I remember seeing something a while ago about how they were gonna kill off Scrappy. That's worth the price of admission on it's own. Even if he fucking dies off camera, it'll still be the greatest moment in cinema history. Gawd, Scrappy was the worst cartoon character EVER.
Guest starvenger Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 >Gawd, Scrappy was the worst cartoon character EVER. I'd actually say that Marvin and Wendy are the worst cartoon characters ever, but Scrappy is definitely in that cartoon crap pile. Hell, he makes the Go-bots look good...
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 what about scooby-dum? i hated any episodes that he was in.
Guest Risk Posted June 12, 2002 Report Posted June 12, 2002 Anime rules and it isn't all the same. YOU just don't "get it." Anyways, I think I'll see Scooby Doo.
