Guest godthedog Report post Posted June 13, 2002 i completely agree with the first post. scooby doo sucks. always has, always will. for some reason all my friends love scooby doo, & it always starts me on a rant about how much that show sucks. i've challenged all my friends to name one funny thing about the show, & NO ONE has managed to respond with ANYTHING. scooby doo is not funny. period. if scooby doo didn't try so hard to be funny & didn't act like it was funny, this may not have been a problem. but the "humor" is so blatant and pandering that it's impossible to ignore. failed drama can be funny to watch, but failed comedy is just painful to watch. Guest starvenger Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Why do people (including myself) like Scooby-Doo? Good question. I'd probably attribute it to a "Three's Company"-like mentality (even though Three's Company came later, I think. But I digress). Basically every show is the same, with more or less the same gags, with the same endings. But it creates a comfort level that everyone likes, so they keep watching. But then, it could be that Super-Friends was on right after, and people couldn't be bothered with changing the channel...
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Dude...it's a talking dog! how can you NOT enjoy a talking dog! I think I've just lost all faith in humanity when you can appriciate the entertainemnt value of a dog that talks...a talk dog.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 13, 2002 I can not enjoy a talking dog, quite easily in fact. I don't enjoy a talking dog each and every time Scooby Doo comes on TV. How lame must a cartoon be to have a laugh track?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 13, 2002 Okay, the show was INTENTIONALLY lame (laughtrack, generic plots) and INTENTIONALLY stupid, people. That's why I'm willing to bet millions of people love it. Oh, but it's a popular show...ALL INTERNET FANS MUST HATE!
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 13, 2002 No, I just didn't like it. I didn't think it was funny. It didn't entertain me. I've felt that way about the show ever since I was a kid. Apparently there are a lot of people who agree with me. Why's that so hard to understand?
Guest starvenger Report post Posted June 13, 2002 >Apparently there are a lot of people who agree with me. Why's that so hard to understand? Because the Thought Police will come and get you if you don't convert. I figured that was rather obvious...

Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 15, 2002 The casting of the movie pissed me off. When I saw the trailer, I was kind of upset at the casting. It seems more like they are trying to draw people in with their shitty teen idol actors instead of the actual movie.

Freddie Prinze Jr coulda been Spider-Man...
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 15, 2002 Shit. Nicholas Cage is going to play Ghost Rider, and he wanted to play Superman.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 15, 2002 Well the casting isnt all that bad. Lindsey from Freaks and Geeks plays Velma and Buffy is daphne(i think she is perfect for the role) The guy playing shaggy works great but Freddie DOESNOT work as Fred(ok that sounds weird) They could have casted Fred differently. Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Well, I saw it today. I heard that it was a bad movie, and I just could not keep away. Anyway, I kind of liked it. Freddie Prinze Jr. was kept to a minimum, and he seemed to played a vain nitwit quite well. The rest of the characters were fine in their roles. Shaggy and Scooby acted exactly like they are in the cartoon. Fred, Velma, and Daffney seemed totally different, at least, from my perspective. Fred was vain and totally clueless. Velma was angry because she thought everything up, yet Fred took all the credit. Daffney was mad because she is always getting captured, so she takes karate lessons to help fight off the bad guys. The plot was kind of out there. The ending surprised me, and the complete burial they did of the Scrappy character had me marking out. All in all, it was better than I expected it to be. Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 16, 2002 THEY BURIED SCRAPPY!!!! I LOVED SCRAPPY! SCRAPPY RULED!
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Fred was basically clueless in the cartoon and was most likely vain. Velma never got pissed on the cartoon but you knew she came up with all the ideas even though Fred took the credit so her being pissed off at him would be expected. Daffney did always get caught so it isn't too hard to believe she'd get fed up and learn to fight back. Those 3 characters don't sound any different in the movie. It just looks like the movie expanded on the characters a little more then the cartoon ever did.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 16, 2002 It was supposed to basically be a parody of sorts anyway.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 16, 2002 I figured it would be. Hell the cartoon itself was basically a parody, but of what i don't know.

I think I've just lost all faith in humanity when you can appriciate the entertainemnt value of a dog that talks...a talk dog. It's fairly easy to not enjoy a talking dog. What it IS hard to not enjoy though, is a bear, which I've never seen on "Scooby Doo".
Guest Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Scooby rules. The movie will probably be pretty bad, it does have Freddie Prinz Jr. I still say Screech from Saved by the Bell should have gotten Shaggy. I am a long standing fan of the cartoon show and will probably hate the movie. I'll see it but it just wont be the same. Scrappy Doo sucks cock. Sorry, thats the only way to put it. He ruined the show.

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Okay, the show was INTENTIONALLY lame (laughtrack, generic plots) and INTENTIONALLY stupid, people. That's why I'm willing to bet millions of people love it. Oh, but it's a popular show...ALL INTERNET FANS MUST HATE! I'm sorry, but how are you supposed to defend something that is INTENTIONALLY lame and stupid. If it's UNintentionally lame or stupid, then you can forgive them for trying and it might even be funny, but if something is INTENTIONALLY lame and stupid, there's just no point in watching it. It's about as entertaining as a comedy that's not funny (which, fittingly enough, also describes Scooby Doo). About the box office specs... too bad... if they keep pulling in money like that it'll become a damned franchise like the show
Guest Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Wow... it's scary to see how worked up people are getting over Scooby-Doo. He's just a pup, you know. Anyway, it's all about Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. They need to make a movie out of that. Dreamer420, where is that picture from? Looks like a good time...
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Wow... it's scary to see how worked up people are getting over Scooby-Doo. He's just a pup, you know. Well, I never liked the show in the first place, and now, given the success of the film and the fact that because of that success they're probably going to make several sequels, there's good reason for me to get worked up. I'm not OUTRAGEOUSLY PISSED OFF... I'm just bothered and a little disappointed, because there really is no point to it other than to make tons of money on a somehow beloved, terrible show. Think about it, what does it show up and coming filmmakers, or studios presented with an original concept and script? It's just another example of "forget originality, forget breaking new ground, these saps will buy ANYTHING old!" I have the same problems with Men in Black 2, it just hasn't been publicized anywhere near as much in my area for me to get worked up about it. In fact, no summer movies have except Scooby Doo and Minority Report. I have no idea what else is coming out this summer...
