Ran over a deer last night

Recommended Posts

Last night I was driving down the the highway and two deer ran out in front of me and I was able to avoid the first one but the second was hit pretty good. The damage in the photo was from me hitting the deer at about 60 miles an hour.

Not the greatest photo, but the damage was done along the front driver's side. Looks like I will need a new hood, fender, grill and headlights.

You are very very very fortunate it wasn't worse. I live in Kentucky so yeah...I remember one morning (and morning to us good ole boys is 5:30 AM) we were leaving for work, and I was half way asleep with my head against the passanger window...and BAM. A fucking deer jumped straight into the damn door, like ram rodded the son of a bitch. Another time me and my Grandpa were on the way back from a job on 245 and a deer jumped out in front of his Bronco. The deer ran a good ways into a field before he feel over and died. Grandpa, being old school decides there is no sense in wasting it, so he gets me to drag the thing across the field (he couldn't because he had a quadruple bi-pass months earlier)...I was around 16 and although I may have thought I was cockstrong back then, I couldn't budge this fucking thing. Some dude stopped and helped us, but damn it sucked. It didn't do anything to his Bronco really, cept fuck up his fog lights. But I have saw some people who ended up with the whole front end fucked up, windshield shattered and a big dent in the roof so yeah...you are lucky.

A sheriff from around here hit a deer late at night. His car flipped a couple times and he ended up in the hospital for a good two months. He was in critical condition for the first few weeks. Didn't think he would make it. The scene of the accident was the exit ramp I use to go home, so I saw the mess left behind. Bloodstains everywhere, gravel/dirt/sod displaced from the car ... speed limit is 70, not sure how fast he was going.

You're lucky.

I'm a deer killing machine. It's between five and ten now. Most of my vehicles have been large american pieces of gas-sucking iron, so little damage done.

Always look out for the second deer. Always. Deer are often not alone so don't think you're in the clear once you think you avoided the first one. Watch out for a 2nd or possibly even more deer after that.

Pfffff.

Take out a moose, live to tell about it and then maybe you can start a thread.

You definitely DON'T WANT to hit a moose.

What would you do Curry? Put the moose in a rear naked choke after you hit it?

:) The moose would own LOTC faster than Frank Shamrock owning

I know of a few people who've had encounters with moose. I've oddly never met one up close before but just last spring/summer I knew I was extremely close to one as I and my comrade found afterbirth which is pretty rare. A calf had just been born (calves I believe get up REALLY quickly) and moose like to defend their newborns so you better believe that woke me up.
