Damaramu Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Wow I loved this movie but I love pretty much any movie that has to do with football. I went wearing my Eagles jersey and Eagles hat which turned out to be a mistake because I got stopped like 20 times by people going "You must be going to see Invincible!" or saying "You're going to see Invincible. Do you like the Eagles?" It was a good movie but the ending suffered the effects of Hollywood and when they showed real clips of Vince during the credits you saw the final scene of the movie in real life. Basically in the movie he breaks ahead of everyone and gets to the punt returner just as the guy catches the ball. He tackles him and the guy fumbles. He jumps up and runs it in for a 30 yard punt return TD. Then they show in real life he just got in the guys face on the 10(with a defender right on his back) causing the guy to muff the punt. He catches it on it's first hop and like two steps later is in the end zone. The hollywood one was more exciting for the big screen though and this is coming from soneone that hates anytime anything is "hollywoodized".
the pinjockey Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 It was good. Wasn't "Miracle" good, but more in class with "The Rookie" (depending on which sport you like more, you'll probably like the movie similarly). There was just too little to work with to make it a great sports movie. Once you get out of the training camp scenes, there aren't many game scenes given he was only a special teams player. One unforgivable sin: they got the Eagles fight song wrong. The fan opens it Fight, Eagles, Fight instead of Fly,Eagles,Fly. That may seem anal, but you can't do a movie based around die-hard Eagles fans and then do that. If there were rights issues (the song was copywrited), then you don't do the song.
Guest NYankees Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 I saw this movie over 10 years ago when they called it "RUDY".
Guest Princess Leena Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 I've only seen the trailer, and there's so many lies in it that I have no need to see it.
Guest NYankees Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 I've only seen the trailer, and there's so many lies in it that I have no need to see it. The trailer says inspired by a true story not based on a true story. Just like how the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by a true story. Stupid people actully thought Leatherface was a real person.
Slayer Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Did they turn Vermeil into a no-nonsense tough guy?
Guest Princess Leena Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 The trailer says inspired by a true story not based on a true story. I know... but, it's so much off that it's basically fiction. The only part that's valid is he didn't play college football.
Damaramu Posted August 27, 2006 Author Report Posted August 27, 2006 Did they turn Vermeil into a no-nonsense tough guy? He acted all tough around the players but at home it showed him as a nervous dude that was worried he might not make it. So what was so different from this and real life?
Slayer Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 You ever seen a Dick Vermeil press conference?
the pinjockey Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 During the time period of this film he was more along the lines of the no nonsense tough guy. He was notorious for being a hardass in his first couple camps. I don't think he really started to cry, publicly at least, until they started winning and he could give the "I'm so proud of you guys" type speeches.
Vyce Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 I've only seen the trailer, and there's so many lies in it that I have no need to see it. Lie number one was not having Vermeil crying like a little bitch in any of his scenes.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Did Vermeil at least cry when he had to release Papale? Or is that part not even in the movie, out of fear of ruining a feel-good story?
Damaramu Posted August 27, 2006 Author Report Posted August 27, 2006 Did Vermeil at least cry when he had to release Papale? Or is that part not even in the movie, out of fear of ruining a feel-good story? Yeah the move ends after Papale's second game. Then to add to the feel goodness they show scenes from real life while telling us how long Vince played and then telling us that Vermeil took the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
