brokentusk16 Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 We've been with dial-up at my house for the last few years now, but we're going to be getting DSL soon. The phone company will install it, but I'm worried if I will have all I need. I asked a buddy and he asked me if I had a network interface card. I have no idea. I have a socket where I plug the phoneline into the computer. Will that be enough? Or will the modem the installation comes with cover everything? Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
Guest Princess Leena Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Is your computer fairly new. As in less than 6-7 years old. I'd assume it came with a NIC. Plus, most DSL modems come with USB capabilities.
brokentusk16 Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 We got the computer sometime in 2001. It's Compaq Presario 5000. I looked up a website (http://www99.epinions.com/content_49443868292) and it says that the computer comes with a "10/100Mb PCI NIC". Does that sound right? And yeah, it does have the USB plugin in the front.
Guest Princess Leena Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Yeah. You're good to go.
