Is there any doubt that Europe will squash the spoiled Americans again this year. This is only reason I care about this event. And you go, Sergio. You'll beat Tiger. He'll still mail it in.

All the new guys should care about winning. This is their chance to make a name for themselves. But, I question how good a few of them are. Wetterich is a total scrub who only made the team because he had a hot month after Augusta. Where nobody cares.

The US points system for this year's Ryder Cup was so awful.

You're probably right, but the European team won with inferior talent the last two Ryder Cup's. If anything the comments by that Irish tabloid should fire up the US team.

Where does Sergio the Folding Chair get off talking shit about anyone? Try winning a big tournament sometime, Sergio. It won't hurt, I promise.

This is Ryder Cup, though. Sergio's record is very good. And he's Europe's motivational leader or something.

Tiger's record is like 7-12, whatever they said on PTI yesterday. He doesn't give a shit about Ryder Cup. If Sergio can motivate Tiger, it's better for everyone. Because the US is going to need all the help they can get to keep this close.

Tiger and Furyk took the first match, 1-up. Europe then won two matches and halved another. Europe 2.5, USA 1.5.

Afternoon foursomes:

Match 5: Padraig Harrington/Paul McGinley (EUR) vs.

Chad Campbell/Zach Johnson (USA)

Match 6: David Howell/Henrik Stenson (EUR) vs.

Stewart Cink/David Toms (USA)

Match 7: Lee Westwood/Colin Montgomerie (EUR) vs.

Phil Mickelson/Chris DiMarco (USA)

Match 8: Luke Donald/Sergio Garcia (EUR) vs.

Tiger Woods/Jim Furyk (USA)

That last one should be fun to watch.

Donald and Sergio took out Tiger and Furyk 2-up. The other three matches were halved. Europe 5, USA 3.

It could have been worse for the Americans -- Europe was leading in every match at one point on the back nine. Lefty and DiMarco were dormie in their match and couldn't pull out the win, though. The Americans are going to need to play at least even with the Europeans tomorrow to have a decent shot at winning the Cup.

Blah. All things considered, the US really could have got blown out today. I guess it's better to keep some suspense until Sunday, though. And Hefty can lose to one of the "unknown" Swedes, or something.

I hate Fourball. It takes forever. It usually comes down to hoping someone makes a lucky long range birdie. I want to see players screw up.

Europe up 7.5-4.5 and looking good in the afternoon foursomes.

Europe leads 10-6.

Just need 4 of 12 points in singles. Champions.

The US sat the crappy rookies, except for Taylor who I think didn't play yet.

I'd like to see DiMarco steal this half, since he's one of the maybe 2 or 3 on the US that cares.

But, 18.5-9.5 looks so much better.

I don't think you can put it on not caring. They may not care as much as the Euros -- and really, who could? -- but they care. They just got outplayed, plain and simple. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find 12 guys who could have beaten Europe this week, they way they played and especially the way they putted.
