Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 21, 2006 US: Tiger Woods Phil Mickelson Jim Furyk Chad Campbell David Toms Chris DiMarco Vaughn Taylor J.J. Henry Zach Johnson Brett Wetterich Stewart Cink * Scott Verplank * Europe: Darren Clarke* Paul Casey Luke Donald Sergio Garcia Padraig Harrington David Howell Robert Karlsson Paul McGinley Colin Montgomerie José Maria Olazábal Henrik Stenson Lee Westwood* Is there any doubt that Europe will squash the spoiled Americans again this year. This is only reason I care about this event. And you go, Sergio. You'll beat Tiger. He'll still mail it in.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Europe 15- USA 13 I think having some first timers will be a plus for the US. Taylor sounds like a very competive type player, who might care about winning.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 21, 2006 All the new guys should care about winning. This is their chance to make a name for themselves. But, I question how good a few of them are. Wetterich is a total scrub who only made the team because he had a hot month after Augusta. Where nobody cares. The US points system for this year's Ryder Cup was so awful. You're probably right, but the European team won with inferior talent the last two Ryder Cup's. If anything the comments by that Irish tabloid should fire up the US team. TIGER SMASH Where does Sergio the Folding Chair get off talking shit about anyone? Try winning a big tournament sometime, Sergio. It won't hurt, I promise. TIGER SMASH Where does Sergio the Folding Chair get off talking shit about anyone? Try winning a big tournament sometime, Sergio. It won't hurt, I promise. This is Ryder Cup, though. Sergio's record is very good. And he's Europe's motivational leader or something. Tiger's record is like 7-12, whatever they said on PTI yesterday. He doesn't give a shit about Ryder Cup. If Sergio can motivate Tiger, it's better for everyone. Because the US is going to need all the help they can get to keep this close.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Tiger and Jimmer, presumably paired, take two on Friday and Saturday. Ditto for Mickelson-DiMarco. Throw a handful of upsets in(I'm thinking Taylor and Johnson will be two who do)....and that's about it. Europe wins 19-
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 I'm going 15.5-12.5 Europe, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the US win.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Friday morning fourball pairings: 3 a.m. ET -- Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk, United States, vs. Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington, Europe. 3:15 a.m. ET -- Stewart Cink and J.J. Henry, United States, vs. Paul Casey and Robert Karlsson, Europe. 3:30 a.m. ET -- David Toms and Brett Wetterich, United States, vs. Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia, Europe. 3:45 a.m. ET -- Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco, United States, vs. Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood, Europe. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Tiger and Furyk took the first match, 1-up. Europe then won two matches and halved another. Europe 2.5, USA 1.5. Afternoon foursomes: Match 5: Padraig Harrington/Paul McGinley (EUR) vs. Chad Campbell/Zach Johnson (USA) Match 6: David Howell/Henrik Stenson (EUR) vs. Stewart Cink/David Toms (USA) Match 7: Lee Westwood/Colin Montgomerie (EUR) vs. Phil Mickelson/Chris DiMarco (USA) Match 8: Luke Donald/Sergio Garcia (EUR) vs. Tiger Woods/Jim Furyk (USA) That last one should be fun to watch. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Donald and Sergio took out Tiger and Furyk 2-up. The other three matches were halved. Europe 5, USA 3. It could have been worse for the Americans -- Europe was leading in every match at one point on the back nine. Lefty and DiMarco were dormie in their match and couldn't pull out the win, though. The Americans are going to need to play at least even with the Europeans tomorrow to have a decent shot at winning the Cup.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Blah. All things considered, the US really could have got blown out today. I guess it's better to keep some suspense until Sunday, though. And Hefty can lose to one of the "unknown" Swedes, or something.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 23, 2006 I hate Fourball. It takes forever. It usually comes down to hoping someone makes a lucky long range birdie. I want to see players screw up. Europe up 7.5-4.5 and looking good in the afternoon foursomes.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 23, 2006 Europe leads 10-6. Just need 4 of 12 points in singles. Champions.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2006 I only got to see the morning...Who sat the afternoon? Did they pull Mickelson, as seemed likely? Miller suggested pulling Tiger AND Phil.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 23, 2006 The US sat the crappy rookies, except for Taylor who I think didn't play yet.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2006 DiMarco sat this afternoon, along with Wetterich, Verplank and Henry. Mickelson played with Toms and got beat again. Tiger and Furyk went out again and got the only win of the afternoon session. Eurpoe can't possibly lose now.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 Another Ryder Cup for Europe, and another slaughter. Europe could still win this 19-9.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 24, 2006 I'd like to see DiMarco steal this half, since he's one of the maybe 2 or 3 on the US that cares. But, 18.5-9.5 looks so much better.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 I don't think you can put it on not caring. They may not care as much as the Euros -- and really, who could? -- but they care. They just got outplayed, plain and simple. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find 12 guys who could have beaten Europe this week, they way they played and especially the way they putted.
