Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 That's true. Which is why 2004 sucked ASS for TNA. Dutch Mantel, Russo coming back and not having nearly as much creative juice as he did his first TNA run, the agents telling the X-Division guys to slow down and not do highspots (when the entire division was created FOR highspots), Jeff Jarrett uber alles...shit, '04 has been their worst year. The only thing I remember from '04 that was any good was the short ICP/Jarrett's Posse feud that culminated in Monty Brown debuting, hitting the Alpha Bomb on 2 Tuff Tony onto a ladder, and Kid Kash being YOUR NEW FAVORITE WRESTLER. Come to think of it...Kid Kash was the best thing going during the Dirty Dutch era. I know Mantel's still with 'em, but c'mon...we all know it's mostly Russo. At least during other areas of awful booking (Duthtay Whodes, anyone?) there was still some solid fucking matches. Dirty Dutch era? I can only think of Ultimate X 2 and a few brawls here and there, and the 8-man from the first America's X-Cup.

I'd forgotten about it, but he and Styles had a great series of matches over the X-title that were actually brawls because of how intense the feud was booked. Also, I'm not sure if it was 2004 for or not (but I think it was), but the Dutch era produced Chris Harris' chase for the title while James Storm was injured. They did a great job building him up, with Jarrett not taking him seriously because he was a tag team wrestler. I thought he could have been a break out star there if they would have had him go over Jarrett at the end in that cage match, but they got cold feet and stupidly booked AJ to start a one-month reign that night. We might not have gotten drunken James Storm out of the deal, but I think they could have still done a jealousy heel turn. I thought Harris' title chase was one of TNA's best booked ever (that and Raven's initial chase) and in both cases, they royally screwed up the payoff. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 The six sided ring is good, it makes TNA different. They're obviously not going back at this point, so it's really not worth discussing. The problem TNA has is the same any other wrestling group has had regularly taping a TV show from the same location...either the crowd is full of people who don't care, or the people become too "smarkish" and try to make it into their show. I agree on both fronts, especially the second. Even if it took some getting used in 2004, it going on three years since they switched to six sides. It's definitely time to stop talking about whether they should have or not.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 That...and the booking is lame. The same crowd, so long as they're given quality new things to digest, will continue to be enthusiastic about the product. It's all about giving them more of the same, but changing it ever so slightly each time so it seems new. I remember Kash/Styles. Wasn't that great of a feud, but Kash was so GREAT as a heel that I bought the PPV each week (until the first King of the Mountain match, FUCK JEFF JARRETT) just to watch him be a dick. Corkscrew_Senton 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Kash was indeed an awesome heel. It's too bad he wouldn't play ball more with the company. I can see where he was coming from wanting a title run, but even with as awesome as he was I couldn't picture him as World Champion. How would a Kid Kash run have worked?
