migoli Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 So i am not a great car mind and i have no clue whats up with my car but got some ideas. Anways my car is a 2002 Jetta 1.8T and everyonce and a while, almost always when im stopped at like a stop light or something a orange triangle comes on and my car shifts real hard and it cant get into 5 gear. Anyone have any clue what it may be?
Art Sandusky Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Safety mode, maybe. What else happens? Automatic or manual?
mister foozel Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 why would you need 5th gear when you're at a light anyway? but i suggest google for a vw forum or something like that
Art Sandusky Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 I really think it's the car's safe mode, which is something the car does when it has to say, limp home or to a service station when something goes wrong. It hinders your car so you don't make the problem worse. If there isn't a problem in the first place, take it to a VW mechanic for some diagnostics so you can figure out what's causing it to spontaneously think it's damaged.
migoli Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 That does make sense, thanks SMG. But foozel its just when i hit the light that hazard light comes on and then i cant hit 5 gear after that
Perfxion Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 What Automatic car has a fifth gear? I seen D, D3, 2, 1; but never D5, ect. If you are at a light, the car should be in idol.
Art Sandusky Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 There are many five speed automatic transmissions. Hell, six gears are becoming common and the latest full-size Lexus sedan has eight gears in its slushbox.
