Mik 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Did you all hear that Bush signed a bill that pushes daylight savings time up about thirty days this year into March? That's very interesting.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 OLD NEWS and apparently its like a possible new Y2K bug since computers everywhere are programmed to do the time switch on April Fools day instead of the new March 11th and everyones gonna need to update their computers over the next 3 weeks or else it'll cause mass hysteria or something. It also goes back in the fall a week later as well. Wonderful Bush logic though..This is done all in the sake of saving energy..there would have to be a billion other ways to save energy instead of making daylight last an hour longer at night.. Guest Oedipus Rex Report post Posted February 18, 2007 I'm all for this. Short days suck. I don't think this will cause mass hysteria, though. People already manually adjust their watches, cars, alarm clocks, ovens, microwaves, and anything else that displays the time, so why can't they just add their computers to that as they do the rounds? I had to manually update mine until I got a new laptop two years ago. And furthermore, don't our computers periodically synchronize with a Microsoft server if we're connected to the Internet? I'm sure they'll just change it there and it won't be a problem.

The thing is, not many people even know about it now..Mik up there is a prime example..this was announced last year and was met with a "meh" from everyone. Most calendars still list April 1rst as the day it switches. This is going to sneak up on a lot of people and it will catch some people. Not to mention the fact that if you manually set anything that is automatically programmed to go ahead an hour on April 1rst, its still going to go ahead an hour on April 1rst even if you manually set it back on March 11th, which means you'll have to set everything again in 3 weeks which will cause even more headaches and confusion. And you'll have to through with this again in October when things are programmed to go forward an hour a week earlier.

Clocks go back an hour in the fall, and it's a week later. I had the direction wrong, but if you have something programmed to auto change the time, its programmed to go back in October and now its a week later in November, so you'll have to set your clock forward that night in October and then set it back an hour again the next week. I even confused myself here..
Guest Oedipus Rex Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Okay, then as you're manually springing forward, turn off "automatically update" if that's the problem. not many people even know about it now If the media can tell us about every detail of Anna Nicole Smith's time, I'd like to think it can tell us what goddamn time it is. They probably don't even remember themselves. Things are definitely hitting a wall when we need to turn to CNN to tell us what time it is.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 What I never understood is why we can't just adjust our schedules. Are we so dead set against being up at 5:30 am that we have to change our clocks instead! It's insane when you really think about it.
Guest Oedipus Rex Report post Posted February 18, 2007 It's one of those vestiges of an agrarian society, like no school in the summer. I like both vestiges. One think I will not stand for, however, is that it is Daylight SAVING Time. It is a time system whose objective is to save daylight, or at least offset the hours to make it seem that way. It's not a bank.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted February 18, 2007 I'm all for this as there's no Daylight Savings Time here.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Indiana just adopted daylight time last year, and people wanted to kill the governor.
Guest Oedipus Rex Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Does that mean it stays somewhat crepuscular until like 10 or so? That's sorta cool.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted February 18, 2007 It did. The farmers were pretty pissed about the switch, and considering how much of this state is farmland, it's a wonder Daniels didn't end up being chased by combines.
