Guest BlueStang302 Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Randy Savage is the only one I know. Flair writes in his book that he and Mr. Perfect had to fly down to Savage's house in Florida to script out and practice their match for Wrestlemania 8. Flair said he had never done that before, so I'd venture to guess that it is somewhat rare. Flair also says that Savage did the same for the WM3 match with Steamboat. Consequently, Steamboat doesn't think too much of the match. I've also read that Hogan-Warrior from WM6 was rehearsed several times. Any others?
Enigma Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 DDP is very well known for scripting his matches out move by move.
Guest JohnFTW Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 I've heard Marc Mero being guilty of this, too.
Vern Gagne Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 I thought Pat Patterson scripted the Savage/Steamboat match?
cabbageboy Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 The odd thing about this is that I read an interview with Steamboat from a few years ago and he said the WM 3 match was his best match ever and one of the reasons was that unlike his matches with Flair (where they'd just say "Hey, see you in the ring" and do their usual) he and Macho spent months on the match for it to be as good as possible.
spman Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 I know the story is that Vince Hogan and Warrior spent a week in Florida choreographing the Wrestlemania match move for move.

"Randy drove Ricky insane, going over each move again and again. When people praised the match as the greatest in World Wrestling Federation history, Steamboat would kind of shrug. He shared my belief that the best matches are called in the ring and on the fly, not laid out on paper" - Flair in his book "To Be the Man" Interesting. I can see both viewpoints. I understand why someone who has wrestled on the fly for his whole career would look down on a completely choreographed match. On the other hand, does it necessarily make it a worse match? I don't think so. As impressive as it is to call a 4-5 star match completely on the fly, I think it's also impressive to have the ability to script it out beforehand and then proceed to remember it and perform it.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 The Rock/Hogan match from WM XVIII had at least one run through the week before.
