Graham and Les work the midnight shift at Alaska Klondike, a 24-hour coffee shop. They're on the last shift before the shop closes for a holiday, and out of boredome they decide to steal the money from the safe and the register. Only problem is that once they have the money, customers keep coming in, and one of them won't leave...

This was the first major CMX Pictures project to be shot on Super 8MM film, and the only one to date to be shot on colour 8MM. Due to filter issues and time constraints in post-production, the picture quality suffers, especially in insert shots. To help with possible confusion, these are the insert shots that are difficult to see:

5:27 - a bag of candles

7:10 - biscotti

12:12 - small bag of heroin (later picked up by the cop)

This is the most recent of my film school projects. Since the film lab screwed up I got it back the day before it was due, so I only had 18 hours to copy to the computer, render, edit, sync sound, colour correct, and finalize everything, but I still got it done. Now it's online for all to watch.

Man the film lab screwed you something fierce there. This is your first film school project you said, or only your most recent?

How far have you guys gone into cinematography and lighting? Indoor shots and night shots are the hardest to do without adequate lighting, and it's kind of difficult to see what's going on at the beginning because of that.

Good job either way, though.

Edit: Also, I'm too lazy to look it up again. Where is it that you're going to film school at?

I'm technically not starting film school proper until late this summer at Webster University, but I took a Filmmaking class at Meramec St. Louis Community College. We covered the basics on lighting and cinematography, but didn't get that far into it.

And at the beginning it was just the customer going from her car to the shop.

I like the cardboard box one. If I were you I'd make the credits at the end, the thing is nobody knows who these actors are. So when you use the first 1/8 of the movie to tell us who the executive producers and cast are, it gets me bored right away.

The whole candles = serial killer thing was kinda lame. Usually you want to have someone point out something that makes sense and doesn't just look like it's put in their to try to be hip.

That was to set up Les being needlessly paranoid about the Customers, which leads in to him thinking the main customer is up to something (which is in turn paid of when she is)

I think you could have found better ways to show that he was paranoid, that candle thing is a reach. Maybe him thinking he saw a cop car driving by, it being a little too quite, etc.
