I rode my bike over there because the neighbors were having a little get-together. A few of the guys looked rugged and tough at first glance, so I went to the garage and grabbed my bike. I start pedaling and one of the guys gave me a cold stare. He was just one of those "tough from far, but far from tough" looking guys, so I felt like an idiot for riding my bike. That's why it didn't take so long.

 

I grabbed a 6 pack of IBC and one of those Starbuck(s) frappucinos for in the morning. I felt like a fruit when I put the frapuccino on the counter, but the cashier knows me and he wasn't getting any ideas.

When I was a young boy, I would go down to the old gas station, and there would be this old man sitting by the pile of firewood for sale, just sitting and thinking out loud about what he saw. He would always give me life lessons, and be like "by cracky, you gotta keep an eye on hog futures." One day, he said "some women have a beard, by cracky."

Melky had a really good AB pinch hitting in the 9th inning, but ended up being struck out by Papsmear. Him along with Phelps autta get some playing time over the inept Mientkiewicz (the supposedly "platoon" where Mz gets roughly 90% of the at bats) and the uninspired Abreu. It's just painful right now.

I'm surprised there's no talk of A-Rod's Luger-esque forarm shot on Pedroia last night. I just don't understand how somebody with that much talent can be such a dirty player.

Every player tries to do whatever to impede the progress of a double play. Including raising spikes, and many things more dangerous then what Rodriguez did

 

And Rodriguez definitely doesn't have a rep of a dirty player. He made one notable dirty play when he slapped the glove. It was regrettable. That is all.

I don't like the Minaya iteration of the Mets. They're no fun. I'd always viewed the Mets, and being a Mets fan, as being pretty hip in comparison to the smug and obnoxious Yankees and their fans, which you'd expect given the circumstances, but it seems like the cultural cachet that comes with rooting for the occasionally-awesome-but-generally-sorry-ass Mets has pretty much evaporated at the expense of having a contender. You don't have goofy theme songs and anthropomorphized baseballs and rampant cokeheads and outfielders running into each other because they don't speak the same language (the origin of Yo La Tengo, by the way). It's just a bunch of generally interchangeable Latinos wearing ghettoized uniforms with Daddy Yankee songs on the PA all the damn time. Oh well. At least we'll always have the Cubs to be fashionably bad.

I've got Ottawa in 6, a really hard-fought and physical series. I've liked the Senators the whole way through the playoffs, the Ducks beating the Red Wings definitely showed they can beat anyone, anytime, but Ottawa has the grit to match em.
