Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 16, 2002 This isn't a work. If the WWE and Austin where in cahoots know way he would agree to be this. It might be a made up story, but a work would make Austin look like a complete idiot.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted June 16, 2002 It's looking like Melzter got worked on the whole wife beating thing. Since he took the article down, and there's been no other corroborating sources. How embarassing.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Alright, yet another twist. So the story has been pulled from Meltzer's site. Whether this is due to a hacking, excessive bandwidth, Meltzer getting drunk, I don't know. I realize that I reacted too soon to this story after only hearing from one source. If the story happened LAST NIGHT and was reported on a local news station, wouldn't every internet site be on it? As of right now it's not on 1wrestling, not 411, not anywhere. I have a feeling we were duped.
Guest Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Blast! They were trying to find out how we would react if they said this! FUCK YOU MELTZER!!!
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted June 16, 2002 I really would've thought Meltzer would have made sure the story was true before posting it (and I suppose we can't be 100% sure its not true yet). But assuming it's not true, that's some very shoddy journalism. If it's false, he should put up a retraction, not just delete it and pretend like it never happened. Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Yeah, FUCK YOU MELTZER. I love Austin. Austin ROOLZ! Austin 3:16! YEAH!!!
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Thanks to Patty Therre, Nick Warmack and Brad Hughes This just goes to show that if you have 3 friends or 3 separate e-mail addresses, you can cause a total shake-down of an internet community.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Yeah it's pretty unbelievable that Meltzer would get three e-mails and based on that alone, get all giddy and put that story up. Reminds of the whole Scotsman thing from the late 90's.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 16, 2002 If the story is false, I wouldn't say it was shoddy journalism as much as it was someone trying to get a scoop. I hope it is false, but I'm not going to sit here and act like Steve Austin has ever been my hero. I think everyone should wait a little while and find out if this story is true before believing it. I'm sure everyone hates to be accused of something that they didn't do, and just because Austin is an entertainer doesn't mean he is any different than anyone else. Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted June 16, 2002 No man, it's shoddy journalism. Like I said, I guess we can't be 100% sure it's false yet, but all signs point to it being false. You just don't print something that you haven't been able to verify. No matter how badly you want the scoop. If it's what it looks like, (Meltzer recieving three e-mail reports from people who saw a local news piece and then running with the story), then its pretty damn close to a reckless disregard for the truth. It's not that hard to verify. I've worked as a copy editor for a newspaper. It's a simple phone call to the San Antonio police department.
Guest franchise632 Report post Posted June 16, 2002 As creator of this thread, If the story is wrong then I would fully retract any statement I made about Steve Williams the person and Steve Austin the character. I for one hope its something that isnt true. I, being the mark for myself that I am, got it up first and would take responsibilty for faning the flames. Anyway who knows where it goes now, im sure Dave will have something up in the morning about what happend, if not i will call into his radio show tomorrow night and ask him about it myself. I did do some research on the net and searched the news site from the report, no mention of it there as others have said, i also checked the newspaper for the story. However if it happend 4 am April 15th it wouldnt have been in the 15th edition, but would be in todays paper on the 16th. So I might try that and see. At this point either its false or Meltzer is a schmuck and deleted the post of his site.

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Hmmm... the disappearing post could be from a few different things. 1. A combination of someone lying to Meltzer, and him believing it without checking his facts (or being able to check?) first. 2. Someone hacked into the Observer site and posted a fake article. 3. Someone hacked into the Observer site and removed the real article. 4. The article was real, but the WWE legal staff called up Meltz and told him that his ass was going into court tomorrow if he didn't take it down right fucking now. Those are the only explanations I can think of, does anyone else have any other plausible ones?

Guest Fubar420 Report post Posted June 16, 2002 They should just do Bret Hart/Steve Austin vs Ric Flair/Vince McMahnon Let them Tear each other apart for summer . and Put all the tag teams back together. and Push Storm and the younger Guys who actually can WORK unlike HHH and that pot bellied Taker. Instead of trying to use the internet Marks for a testing ground for all there far fetched brainstorms . The writers of the wwe couldn't write directions to the bathroom across the hall without screwing it up and confuseing themselves . And what is we are waiting for from Lesnar ? The 300lb shooting star press in the sky ? Press on Tatoo's ? I can't wait to see what EXCITEING Merchandise they come out with , with his likeness on it . The Goldberg Angle been done , The Winning Streak was redone by Angle . So I interested to see what there gonna do To Make THE NEXT BIG thing so damn BIG . Talk about stabbing someone with a spoon , Your killing us here Vince . You've gone to sickening and repulsive new lows in your attempt to garner ratinging's I'd also like to know where the heck 2.2 million viewers from WCW Nitro and Thunder are hiding ? They never made it too the WWE Product , and they even TOOK some WWE viewers with them . When you MOP up all the competetion and you lose over 2.5 million or more viewers over night , maybe that''s the first inclination that you Phucked up Vince . Without Competetion and a #2 or #3 promotion to compare yourself too . The WWE = Won't Work Ever . Your better off Vince Calling all them old time promoters and starting up the Territory's again . Had there been Territory's , Even the Big Show could have been a star , Had they marketed him in same way they did andre by sending him around the world to face all challenges in all area's . I could go on and on . Put the Wieght on Benoit ,Guerrero,Storm .... etc etc . Let the real Stars shine . Fireing have the writers and growing some common sense would be the first step . This just goes to show if ya make the lie big enough everyone will believe it . Vince you made the WWF into the biggest Lie there ever was by making it WWE , cause it not even Entertainment , It's Hogwash . . . And your ratinging;s prove it . Maybe Austin Got sick of there new slogan : Get the F Out . So He did , Maybe it that easy . I hope he stays out and takes care of himself and any demons he may have , and in the mean time I'll take joy in watchin WWE crumple , I not saying with Austin it wouldn't , cause it would . But atleast if he's gone , He won't have to worry about being screwed over and misused , and an escape goat for writers inability to produce . I don't care if McMahnon is the boss , It's pretty insulting and degradeing to ask a WWF Superstar like Austin too put over Lesnar on National TV with no Build Up , No Reasoning , and No Need for it to begin with . That would have been great on PPV . But free TV ? Whatever happened to climbing the ladder to the top ? Oh Wait the Undertaker at the top .. And how much crowd response does he get either way ? Give me a break and what happened with that big news story on austin and debora ? That was some real classy journalism that was . Well if I run out of T.P anytime soon , I always got the 2001 years worth of observers . Cause basically The Wrestling Future is the shits anyways , at the rate it's going now . Bring back the Territory's . Your a Rich Man Vince . Now go the Phuck home already and enjoy it before you turn into the next Crockett .

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Yep. One simple phone call is all it takes... "Eloy Espinoza, the assignment editor for KMOL-TV, confirmed that his station ran the story last night during their 10 PM newscast. Espinoza told PWTorch.com that his station has been unable to reach either Debra or Austin for comment."

Guest WWF4Life Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Well, according to the report, it's not an isolated incident, and that it's allegedly happened before. Austin in deep shit if this is true, especially for not returning to his house after being contacted by the police. I can't stand violence toward women at all, so if it's true, he should get his ass thrown in jail. The WWE may have avoided a bit of a P.R. disaster.

Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Anyone think it's possible he may have had a mental breakdown? Either too much work, or fading spotlight, or phyiscal pain or something..I dunno. But if it is true, it's a very sad case. -Shiro

But still, who wants to bet on the Austin Car Chase? We all know it's gonna happen, 5:1 he makes it to Mexico. Any takers?
