Promo: Awake

For the first several hours, during the fleeting moments of consciousness scattered few and far between, the world was an overwhelming amalgam of sound and voice.

"He's got a 90% chance of..."

"...the wrestler you were talking about..."

"...someone here to see you..."

"...can I get a comment?"

"Pete?"

Pete's eyes opened.  The bright lights caused him to squint as he tried to look around and get his bearings.  It didn't take him long to realize he was in a hospital room.  What surprised him was the company currently occupying the room with him.  "Ash?"

"You look like hell, Pete," said Ash Ketchum.  "How do you feel?"

"Like hell," admitted Pete, though surprisingly, he wasn't in as much pain as he thought he'd be.  "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you," replied Ash.  "I only live three hours away, and I was home for the weekend--our house show was cancelled.  When I heard about you on the news, I came right over."

Pete still looked confused by Ash's visit.

"Hey, we're XF9," Ash added.  "We take care of our own.  Do you remember what happened to you?"

"A little," Pete answered, bringing the incident back to his memory.  "The car swerved and went off the road.  I tried to brake, but everything just... locked up on me."

"Well, you were lucky you were wearing your seat belt," said Ash.  "The police said it's the only thing that kept you from sailing through the windshield."

"Police?" inquired Pete.

"Yeah, they've been investigating the accident.  Your brakes were locked, Pete, and it wasn't by some problem with the car.  Your car had been deliberately sabotaged."

"Who would do something like that?" Pete asked aloud.  "Who would just play with another man's life like that?"  He blinked once as the answer suddenly came to him.  "Wait.  I know who would do such a thing."

"You do?" asked Ash.

Pete nodded.  "I have to get back to the SWF right away.  When are you due back?"

"I'm taking a flight out of Florida on Wednesday," answered a puzzled Ash.

"Good.  Since I don't have a car, I'll head out with you."

Ash appeared stunned.  "Pete, you can't just leave!  You're hurt!  You're in no condition to return to the SWF.  You'd be putting your body on the line.  It'd be a big risk."

"I've got to take that risk, Ash," said Pete.  "It's a risk I can afford to take given the circumstances.  I need to find someone, Ketchum, if I have to pick apart the entire SWF roster to do it.  I've been in this bid'ness a long time--if I sit on this, how much time do you think I'd have left?  Not much."

"Well, it's your body, but I still think it's a bad idea."  Another thought suddenly struck Ash.  "Oh, by the way, someone was here to see you.  A woman."

Pete raised an eyebrow.  "Really?  Is she still here?"

Ash shook his head.  "She came in for about ten minutes or so, and then left again."

"Really."  Pete pondered this new information and then made up his mind.  "Well, she'll have to wait.  I have more important bid'ness to take care of in the SWF.  Besides, she's waited fourteen years--she can wait a bit longer."

HELL YEAH!

Welcome back, Pete. It's good to see a fellow XF9er back in action.

You alos did a damn good job of nailing Ash down in his more out of ring mode. Great job.

*wishes he actually lived in Florida* :D ;)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ash.  Sorry I didn't let you know about your appearance in this promo beforehand, but I jumped the gun because I wanted to get it in time for whenever the next Storm card comes out.  I'm glad you approved of it though.
