ROH Driven PPV

Recommended Posts

Its a shame that nobody has posted on this here.....I'm actually surprised....

I hadnt seen a ROH show in a few years and threw down $9.95 the other night on this. Guaranteed best $10 I've spent on wrestling EVER.

Top to bottom, this show doesnt stop being solid. The opener is a wild scramble six man that has some insane near falls and high spots. Match to match, it flows well and I really can't say hardly anything bad about this show, with the exception of a short Jimmy Rave-Morshima (I may have fucked up his name, my bad) world title match.

For those who havent seen much of ROH, this is your perfect springboard. And for those who follow the product, I don't need to say anymore.

Danielson/McGuiness is one of the better ROH matches I've EVER seen, period. You're doing yourself an injustice as a wrestling fan by NOT throwing down ten measly bucks on this show, no lie.

Word. Great great show. Us InDemanders have to pay 15 bucks for it but I didnt mind one bit. ROH is the only company I really follow. I don't miss a show ever, but it takes me a couple of days to watch a DVD. Unless I'm at their live shows, I can't sit and watch wrestling for more than 45 minutes to an hour. This ppv was different. I sat on the edge of my seat for the entire two hours. I havent been able to do that for a while.

It was awesome seeing Austin Aries cut that promo dedicating himself to ROH and it was odd seeing that Jimmy Rave hype video at first. Also, I always thought Danielson vs McGuiness from Unified was overrated but their match on Driven was pretty damn good.

Easily the best PPV I've gotten in a LONG time, possibly since Vengeance '03. I check up on RoH here and there, but recently I've been getting more and more into them. I was at Death Before Dishonor V Night 1, at least before intermission, and War of the Wire back in '03, and have two comp tapes somebody from here made for me, as well as the Death Before Dishonor IV DVD. Danielson/McGuinness is one of the best main events I've seen in a LONG time. The beginning kinda bored me, just seemed like superfluous mat wrestling for the sake of doing it, but once they started just taking it to each other I was wide-eyed. The trade-off's of headbutts that busted Danielson open, McGuinness selling his back to the point where he needed a HUGE burst of adrenaline to hit the Tower of London, and the Cattle Mutilation -> MMA Elbows -> Cattle Mutilation finish was GREAT. I even enjoyed the squashes, as seeing Pelle Primeau get thrown all around the ring was fun, as was Jimmy Rave getting dropped on his head a few times. Briscoes/Steenerico was amazing, too, even if Jay's celebration completely shrug off the entire match.

The only match that actually disappointed me was Marufuji/Whitmer, actually. I actually like Whitmer, very solid brawler with a decent offense that, true, would fit better in WWE than in RoH, but I like him. Marufuji I like too, though I prefer KENTA, but...the whole match just didn't really click for me. Japan's top Junior Heavyweight against an American brawler...eh. Openign 6-man was great, and the only match my girlfriend (who was fucking exhausted) stayed up to watch (she's slowly turning into a Delirious mark). Castagnoli/Sydal was fun, and made my girl drop her jaw at the 'rana and the Code Red reversal of a 'rana at the end.

I completely agree with the 411mania review of the show, too. It's a knockout PPV filled to the brink with great matches, but, like most will agree, the production needs to be up'd. Ring of Honor is a powerhouse now, so spending a few more bucks for some solid cameras shouldn't be out of the question.

It's odd that production wise this PPV seemed to have a bit less of the professional shine that the last one did.

One of the big changes that they made included them adding a 2nd "hard camera" to use for those straight on shots of the ring only for close ups. If they had one of those for this PPV I didn't really notice it at all because it really does add a lot. It certainly stood out during the first PPV show.

But overall, maybe some back drops for the back stage segments might hide some of the low rent feel when a guy like Larry Sweeney is taking about making big money deals and yet is cutting his promo in front of a cinder block wall.

The buildings they run in drag down the show a bit too but honestly that is something that has to be over looked for now. ROH just isn't going to go for broke on a venue much larger than a gymnasium. So time will tell if this improves.

Great show BTW top to bottom. I DL'd most of it before Sunday night and I still do not feel bad about spending the 15 bucks.

I agree with what you said about the backstage stuff. This one kinda varies from show to show though. I'm not sure where Driven was recorded (and am too bone idle to go look it up right now) but the venues obviously differ. Chicago Ridge is one of the better venues size-wise. Edison is a decent size too. I think with the Hammerstein, and a couple of others, it's more about character than size.

On the Claudio/Sydal rana -> Code Red spot, is that the first time Claudio's busted it out in ROH?
