NoCalMike Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 So here is the scenario: Once I get a PS3, I will be connecting it to my TV via HDMI. My Receiver does not support HDMI but it does have an optical input. I am assuming that the optical option will be some what of an upgrade of sound because it is being plugged directly into the receiver, rather then the TV. So what about audio receivers that do support HDMI, is there still an upgrade to use the optical port with the optical cable for sound, or is the digital sound from the HDMI connection just as good!?!
MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 If you use the PS3 as a bluray player, using HDMI would allow you to take advantage of DTS-HD, but otherwise theres no difference between using HDMI and optical.
Craig Th Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Not just DTS-HD, but 5.1/6.1/7.1 lossless sound, which sounds AMAZING. Besides, not too many BR movies have DTS-HD. But about 90% of them have uncompressed lossless. (which is actually PCM)
