Soutwest Airlines Charge Fat Extra

Recommended Posts

Guest TheMikeSC

<<<A person from a big family can eat as healty as they want, they are going to be big unless they spend every waking moment working out. Not saying that is the case for everyone, but there are some genetic traits at work alot of times.>>>

That MIGHT explain, maybe, 5% of the cases. The vast majority of the cases of the terminally tubby are self-inflicted.

<<<And 100% charge is ridiculous. Just because someone is big, they should have to pay 600-800 dollars for a seat on a plane?? That is WAYYY to much. I mean, I'd see if flying was cheap, but Goddamn. We aren't talking small amounts of money here. >>>

Then give MASSIVE discounts to the people who are forced to wedge themselves into the tiniest part of their seat to accomodate some tubby sack of goo.

Why should I be forced to pay the same amount of money as somebody who isn't wedged next to some tubby sack of goo?

<<<I think that the coach seats are far to small anyway. how do peopel that arent' even fat, just big, get into those thing comfortably. >>>

That's why it's called coach. You want more room, spring for first class.

-=Mike

"At least this might cut down on the number of fat people on an airplane. I mean, if I'm on a long flight, I dont' really want to be sitting next to some big fat person who's probably all stinky anyways."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA -- You forgot about sitting next to someone who needs to catch their breath after waddling from the bathroom to their seat(s).

Can't they just be placed in cargo or something?

Also, anyone hear about the fat chick that sued some company because they didn't want her to be an aerobic instructor for their product. (I think it was called Jazz-er-sizer *sp* or somthing like that -- it was on O'Reilly's show a while ago)

Yes I do. What a fucking joke that was. Didn't she realize that in order to be a fitness trainer you have to be...FIT?

Another story that pops in my head happened YEARS ago when I read that some store couldn't fire their fat employee because. He, literally, couldn't bend down to pick up stuff off the floor, and they were forced to keep him on due to the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Shouldn't there be some sort of I'm-Too-Fat-To-Do-My-Job-Employer-Protection-Act or something?

"some people can't help that they are fat"

Bullshit. Eat less than you use. You'll get thinner. Promise.

Reminds me of an old "Man Show" bit (one of the ones that was actually, you know, funny). Adam & Jimmy had a remarkable new diet plan that worked wonders on getting women to lose weight. "Just don't eat so much."

I'm actually kind of sympathetic towards the fat folk. It's not that I expect them to not pay for the extra seat, because that's hardly fair. But I was the fat kid growing up (just a little tubby, but it was enough for the jackals to dig in), so I can empathize. You can ridicule these people and say, "They should just lose weight!" You can say the same thing about drug users or alcoholics. "Just stop doing coke! Just stop drinking!" It's not that simple for some people.

Never said it was simple. Just that it's their own damn fault, and no one else should pay for it. I smoke and drink regularly. I would never allow the federal government or anyone else to pay for my medical care or special treatment, aboard an aeroplane or anywhere else, if I had health problems as a result.

They should make an airline fat people and should be called "Wide High Club" had to get that one out. But anyway like I said some people can't help that they are fat due to thyroid conditions or Fat genetics. Anyway, most of america are overweight and about 30 years the scientists claim just about everyone will be overweight. Im 6'0 175lbs so this issue doesn't concern me that much.

I don't want to seem like someone who subscribes to CONSPIRACY THEORIES~! ;) But everyone knows that the airline industry has been hit hard with loss of revenue and more costs. So what did we learn from Agnes on the Simpsons (The Pretzel Episode) "Kids are SO fat these days, there must be some way we can make money off that!" Seriously, it may be a legitimate problem, but making everyone buy extra seats (because everyone in America will soon be overweight mua ha ha) is not really um right? fair? I know life isn't fair. But it's not like people don't need another reason not to fly. How long does it take to boat places these days? They certainly don't run out of space.

If a person wants to use two seats to feel comfortable, then they should pay for two. On the other hand, if they don't want to, they certainly shouldn't be forced to. Having leg/arm room on a plane flight is not a "right" as some here have implied, an airplane gets you from one location to another, it doesn't guarantee that you will be perfectly comfortable. You can't stop someone from puking on a flight, or snoring, or eating like a pig, or whatnot.

Of course, I see this getting recalled quickly when people simply choose first class rather than pay for two seats, and the rich business people start to complain.

How about giving the poor sap who has to sit next to the fatty 1/2 off the ticket, considering he/she will be getting about 1/2 of the seating space?

According to the airlines, it is. See how many people keep flying if they aren't guaranteed that their basic comfort will be protected from the rolls of fat on the sideshow freak in the next seat.

Sure you can. If it disturbs the person next to you, you can be charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place.

I don't think you can be charged for disorderly behavior for puking.

Of course not, if it's involuntary. We're talking about voluntary behaviours and their results.

Ok where's the "organization for tall lanky people" to help my 6'2" 175lb ass out when I can't feel my legs after 30 minutes in a plane? I realize that I would have to pay moer money for 1st Class to feel confortable and being tall is not my fault. I did nothing irresponsible to become over 6' it just happened. Now fat people did do something to become fat, so why should I be forced to pay more as a direct result of my genitics while someone who eats too much shouldn't?

I say make teh fat people pay for 2 seats if they can't fit into one and if the flight isn't full give them their money back. If they don't ask for a refund fuck 'em they can obviously afford it anyway.

I think even refunding the extra charge should be done at the airlines' discretion. It's a courtesy, nothing more. If a fat person takes up two seats, he should pay for two seats. A mother with a child doesn't get refunded the price of her child's seat whether or not the aeroplane's half-empty; there's no real reason a fat person should get a refund either.

I think you guys should copy everything that you wrote here and save it in a nice safe place and come back when that youth is gone, the metabolism has slowed, and losing those few extra pounds isn't as easy and gaining a few is ALOT easier and read what you wrote.

Ok, you know what I'll do then? I'll stop eating as much. It's simple solution that's been tried and tested by my dad and many others. And guess what other than teh leg room problems which noone seems overly sympathetic about he still fits in ONE seat on an Airplane. Its amazing how that works isn't it?

How many times does this have to be said? We're not talking about "a few extra pounds." We're talking about people who are at least a hundred pounds overweight, probably more like two hundred. Chrissakes, you can be fifty pounds overweight and still fit into one aeroplane seat.

This isn't due to slowing metabolisms as they age. This is due to willful, long-term, often terminal, and utterly grotesque self-indulgence.

If they want to abuse their bodies, fine. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with other people paying for it.

And the thing isn't over if they can fit in the seat or not, it is if the airline feels that they will make other customers uncomfortable. Whose to say that a person 50 lbs overweight wouldn't make the person sitting next to them feel more confined...or 25 lbs over weight.

This thing isn't over people that are LITERALLY taking up 2 seats...it is over the people sitting next to them. If a person is LITERALLY taking up 2 seats(how could you do that anyway... really.) then yeah, charge double. But that isn't the case.

I just find it funny when skinny people talk about how people got big. How do you REALLY know.

I've personally watched fat people gorge themselves day in and day out and then cry teh blues about how fat they are and how they can't do any thing. Well what am I supposed to do? Pay for these people to sit in 2 seats or be crushed by them in an airplane? Doesn't seem fair to me.

Have you ever seen how fat people can get? That's how tehy can literally take up 2 seats or at least more then one.

I went to 2 Patriots games last year at Foxboro Stadium (which is being replaced this year) they had bleacher benches with numbers to show people where to sit. I had an aisle seat and couldn't sit down because of a series of fat asses taking up more than their seats. How is that fair? I have to stand the whole game, including half time while paying the same money as some fat people who not only get to sit down but get more space to sit and eat their hot dogs. But its not their fault, right?

Going with more stories. I was on the bus a while back and this fat ass weighing 350-400 sat next to me. Well, next to me isn't entirely accurate, her left cheek took up 90% of the seat, leaving the bulk of her right cheek falling on my leg. I did my best to push her off and squirmed out from under and just screamed at her "JESUS CHRIST BITCH, get your fucking fat ass off of me!" She was completely clueless and asked what my problem was. I scream "My problem is that you've got such a fat fucking ass that it takes up two seats and you almost broke my fucking leg sitting on it! Two words fat ass - Jenny fucking Craig"

Now was I wrong here? Should I have seen her lumbering down the aisle and lept out of my seat? Should I have accepted the broken leg rather that just the charlie horse that left me limping for three days? Or should the fat ass have taken responsibility for her own girth and done the polite thing of asking me to move (which I would have gladly and politely done)?

Airlines charging two fares for two seats is not discrimination, it's simple business - you are using two of something, you are charged for two of something, you pay for two of something. I'm average size and I comfortably fit into an airline seat, I'm sure I'd be more comfortable in two seats, or hell, stretched out across an entire aisle. But I'm certainly not going to expect the airline to just give me the extra seats, especially on a full flight. Or another view, I pay for one full seat, I want one full seat, not a seat with 1/2 an ass and a fat arm draped across it. I don't think I should have to sit uncomfortably through a flight because the airline didn't want to offend some fatass and charge them for the space they are actually occupying.

I think calling her a fat bitch was excessive but I feel your pain. Many, not all obese people do seem clueless to the fact that they are causing a problem and feel like the world should be built to accomodate them. That's wrong.

Well I'm not normally such an asshole, but when she sat on me it really hurt, I have a high tolerance to pain, but in the two seconds from where she hit to me escaping I thought my leg was going to snap. I was just so pissed that I needed an outburst like that.
