Guest Smues Report post Posted June 19, 2008 I'm currently sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to Seattle, and then it's on to Eugene for a friends wedding this Saturday. Because I'm an IDIOT I booked my ticket for tonight instead of tomorrow like I meant to do, so I have an extra d/ ay to fart around in Eugene or the area around Eugene. Is there anything to do in Eugene when there's no Ducks baseball, basketball, or football to watch? I'm considering driving up to Portland but A. I'll be fairly tired from flying the red-eye, and B. I'd rather not drive too far because I don't want to have to buy a tank of gas. FUCK the no pumping your own law. And boo not being in Eugene two weeks earlier or I could have seen Sir Mix-a-Lot. Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Look at the trees and sceneary. Seriously, that's all I did while I was up there. Lucky I had a wrestling show to help keep me busy.
Dandy 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Surely there will be a strip club or tavern around there. Tell women that you meet that you are in the import/export business.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 20, 2008 Eugene sucks, dude. Sorry to tell you. It's too far from Portland to actually do anything, but there are a cool number of farms and stuff you could hang out at around there which have some good food. Hell, if you had told me sooner I have a whole shitload of coupons for stuff to do in Eugene. Hang on, let me get my book.. Ok, there's dining! Three Forks Wok and Grill, and oh shit they have Laughing Planet down there which they have up here in Portland as well that has excellent burritos. There's this coffee and juice place called New Odyssey that might be cool as well. For shopping, there's a place called NextStep Recycling that has a bunch of usable technology including refurbished pc's and the like. There's also the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, but more importantly the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art which could be good to go to. Either way, I asked my ex (who's grown up in Oregon most her life) what to do, and she simply replied, "Nothing. Smoke weed." This is probably the response you're going to get most of the time, unfortunately.

Jorge Gorgeous 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 Eugene is a college-town. College got out last week. You're fucked. On the other hand, the U.S. Olympic Trials are going to be there soon... but you'll probably be gone. Drive north, west or south. You've got Portland, the ocean and Ashland. Those are places worth seeing. Eugene sucks. Fuck, I hate Eugene. It's always gray and raining and you always need a fucking hoodie. I've been to Eugene 100 times and it's like that every time. I've been to Eugene 100 times and it's like that every time. Fuck the heck? Portland's been like that for the past seven months! That's what your ass gets for going down to L.A.- you get pussified to NW Weather. Me, I've only lived here a year and a half and I've already earned the right to bitch because I bike 5-7 days a week in it and deal with it better than most natives. But, oh shit! Isn't Chinook Winds or Spirit Mountain kinda sorta nearby? Chinook Winds is by the ocean (and has TWO COUNT EM TWO FLOORS OF HOT GAMING ACTION) and Spirit Mountain has a bombass buffet. EDIT: Looked it up on Google Maps. Looks like those are closer to Salem than Eugene.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 Go to the shooting range and shoot a real, honest to God Tommy Gun. After that, nothing...go see a movie. I dunno.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 They gotta have disc golf courses all over Oregon........do you disc golf at all?
Guest Smues Report post Posted June 20, 2008 Thanks for all the advice. Eugene seems like a fairly boring town. Much like Spokane Go to the shooting range and shoot a real, honest to God Tommy Gun. Oh that FUCKING range. I found it via Google while looking for stuff to do in Eugene while waiting for my plane out of Seatac. I found that range and it looked great and decided that'd be how I'd kill my Thursday. Tommygun or not. Then I read that they won't rent handguns to non members. What the fuck? The indoor range I used to goto in Spokane rented to anyone. So since I don't feel like spending $75 on a membership just so I can then pay to rent guns that's a no go. Cocksuckers. The Seven Feathers casino 100 miles to the south looks like it might be worth a drive, but then when I went to pickup my rental car they said they were out of full size cars like I reserved, so they gave me a Chevy Silverado Double Cab. I'm not used to driving such a tank and I don't feel like driving it that far. But, because I opted for the 'purchase a full tank of gas and then you can return it empty' option before I found out I was getting the boat instead of a car, I've still got 3/4 of a tank to kill, so I dunno what I'm going to do. I drove around Eugene and Springfield yesterday, and I checked out the OU campus. Pretty nice, but I failed to find Autzen stadium. I think I'll go find that NextStep recycling store, sounds interesting. Oh, and I knew I was in trouble when I got to the airport, and when I went to see what Eugene had to offer there were two ads for Casinos, a golf course or two, and then a billion hotels. Nothing else.

Maybe there are more than one place claiming Tommy Guns. Was it right off the freeway? Like RIGHT off the freeway?

But it said they wouldn't RENT handguns to nonmembers. Not that nonmembers couldn't shoot their own.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Yeah Mike, there's disc golf courses in better places in Oregon- not so much in Eugene. How could you miss Autzen Stadium? It's that fucking enormous thing off I-5 next to the river. It's on Centennial/MLK after you cross the Willamette. Also, we refer to Oregon as UofO, not OU- OU would be Oklahoma University.
