PROMO: cotidie novus

"Hey, Pete!"

Pete finished shoving his gym bag into his locker and slammed it before turning around to face the man that had greeted him. "Oh, hell no. No interviews, man. I haven't even been in the damn building for five minutes--"

"Relax, Pete." Ben Hardy put his hands in the air, palms out, a sort of "nothing-up-my-sleeve" gesture. "There's no cameras here. I just came to welcome you back. You know, from one announcer to another."

"Oh." Pete considered that, then held out an arm to shake Hardy's hand. "In that case, it's nice to see you again. But I didn't come here as an announcer this time. I came to compete."

"I do have to admit," said Hardy, "I'm a little surprised to see you back on the roster."

"Why's that?" Pete shot him a stern look. "Don't think I can hack it?"

"That's not what I mean," Hardy backpedaled. "I mean, retirement has its advantages, right? Why come back to this grind again unless you have a good reason to?"

"Prying as always, Hardy?" Pete glanced around in suspicion. "You sure there's no cameras here?"

The backstage interviewer shrugged the question off. "I'm serious, Pete. What brings you back here? Got some old score to settle? Some unfinished business with someone?"

"A score to settle?" Pete mulled it over. "Well, I never thought about that. If I could settle a score with someone... well, who's still here? The Boston Strangler? Tom Flesher? Chris Wilson?"

Hardy shook his head. "Naw, none of those guys are still around."

"What about Mistress Sarah?"

"'Fraid not."

"Hmm. Ash Ketchum?"

Hardy raised his eyebrows. "Ash Ketchum? Ash never had any issues with you, did he?"

Pete grinned at Hardy. "Who needs a reason to want to kick Ash's ass?" He tapped Hardy on the shoulder as they began walking out of the locker room. "Listen, Hardy, I haven't really kept up with the comings and goings of this place since I left. So you're gonna have to get me caught up. Who's on the roster right now? That I would remember, that is."

"Well... let's see. There's a couple of old XF9 members still around. Annie Eclectic, Munich..."

"Munich!" Pete smiled at the name. "Good times. I remember I was going to help him take out the Boston Strangler in my first appearance right after I got promoted to the SWF. Shame they set up some sort of weird hockey rink match though. Anyway, I should probably look him up, right?"

"I don't know, Pete," answered Hardy. "I don't think he'd exactly give you a ringing endorsement these days."

"Really? How odd. Well, enough about old friends then. Let's talk current events. Who's running the show right now? I should probably go find them anyway and say hello, maybe discuss my plans with the bookers themselves, right?"

"Well, Landon Maddix is the current commissioner of the SWF..."

"Okay, I remember Landon," nodded Pete. "Didn't I bump him?"

"I think so," Hardy agreed. "And Toxxic is the general manager."

"Toxxic?" Pete asked. "Who's that?"

Hardy looked shocked. "Pete... you're kidding me, right? Toxxic?"

Pete just shrugged. "It'll come to me later, I guess. Say, who's the champion right now?"

"Insane Luchador," replied Hardy.

Pete looked taken aback. "IL?! You're kidding me?"

"No, no. He won it from Michael Alexander a couple months ago."

"IL is the champion?" Pete slowly shook his head. "What the hell has happened to this place?"

I'm pretty sure Dogger has called quite a few Toxxic matches. Or if not, certainly his sister. Nonetheless, a good 'settling back in' promo :)

Oh, I figured he'd called some of Toxxic's matches. But from an in-ring standpoint, they were never active at the same time. Just trying to inject a little humor in a promo where I basically try to provoke as many people as I can think of. Gotta get started somewhere.

...and looking around the board this evening, it would appear this promo has done its job...
