Guest rvd43 Report post Posted June 24, 2002 i just want to know why duggan wasnt pushed to Main event status? did he ever get a title shot of any title in wwf?
Guest Caliban Report post Posted June 24, 2002 He got a couple of shots at the IC title in early 1993 when HBK was the champ... the matches are on the Monday Night RAW Primecuts tape. The first was regular and the second was a lumberjack IIRC.
Guest DoubleM Report post Posted June 25, 2002 During his early years with the WWF, Duggan was pushed via generic "USA v. Evil Foriegn Menace" fueds, and bcos guys like the Iron Shiek and The Bolshelviks never held a title, he never got a chance at one. Also, Duggan did'nt need a belt to stay over: the patriotic gimmick always meant he got a good pop and a good reaction for the majority of his matches, even when his workrate detoriated. This is also why he never really won many matches; like Jake Roberts, he was over regardless of how many matches he won or how many belts he had held. As the 1990's dawned, Duggan became an understudy for top draw Hulk Hogan, which meant he spent much of his time in tag matches against whoever Hogan's opponents were at the time, such as Earthqauke and Dino Bravo. This had a detremental affect on his singles career, as he spent most of this matches selling for the big fat heels before tagging out to Hogan, allowing him to do his usual clean-up routine. In 1993, Duggan recieved a last hurrah of sorts from McMahon, resulting in a mini fued with IC champ Shawn Micheals. However, he never won the belt and was jobbed out in the first round of the 1993 King of the Ring tourny in June of that year. When he jumped to WCW the following year, he was given a top spot through his friendship with Hogan, and thus got to win the US title in that total travesty against Steve Austin at Fall Brawl 94. Guess WCW thought all of the new guys needed to make a big impact and thus needed a belt.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 i think the drug charges he had were to early in his career to have any effect. the wwf probably just saw duggan for exactly what he was. a wrestler, with little skills in the ring, who was loved by all the fans because he was a huge patriot. it worked for duggan and worked pretty well. Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 Duggan was a main eventer for Mid-South in the 80's.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 I always wanted Duggan and Slaughter to be WWF Tag Team Champions, but it just never happened. Thanks.
Guest EI Cubano Report post Posted June 25, 2002 Hacksaw as never pushed towards any major titles in the WWF because honestly they had more than enough better and more escentric babyfaces cluttering up the top of the card and Hogan wasn't going anywhere. Duggan did get a major bode of confidence from the WWF when they asked him to headline a house show tour against Andre the Giant. Duggan and Andre were big enough draws to draw big houses across the country and sell out the Madison Square Garden, a moment that Hacksaw calls the highlight of his career. Guest alfdogg Report post Posted June 25, 2002 He also wrestled Sgt. Slaughter for the WWF title on SNME before WM7.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 and was king for a short period, although it a bs title anyway. i still love the match when he beats haku in his home town and then gets crowned by the faces in the company.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 Hogan was champion who was Duggan's friend, so obviously Duggan could care less about the title...considering he had just had a job.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted June 26, 2002 I have Haku's coronation on tape.
Guest Perfect Plex Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Are you seriously asking WHY Duggan was never pushed to a title? Did that man even KNOW any moves? (Other than a weak clothesline?)
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Duggan was super over in the Mid-South/UWF (a feud with One Man Gang was over even)and his mighty "Ho!!!!!" got him over in the WWF but except for the Andre feud,he seemed to be mostly the brawling patriot.Maybe the patriotic gimmick was all the WWF felt he needed and didn't need a belt. He may have been a limited wrestler but he had a lot of charisma.Hacksaw seemed genuinely nice both times I've met him and his comeback is still rather inspiring.Besides, how can you not love a guy that tries to begin a USA..USA chant in a ring in Windsor,Ontario,Canada? (Detroit is right across the river,ya know)
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 26, 2002 i met him when i as younger too. he was a really terrific person to me.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted June 26, 2002 I remember him having an IC title match vs. Rick Rude on SNME once. He actually won the match, but by count-out, and started celebrating like crazy as if he had won the title. Best part of that was Ventura going off on a rant on how stupid he was
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 26, 2002 i loved ventura's comments about duggan. "look at the disgusting fool, with snot hanging out of his nose"
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Was I the only one diggin his commentary in the Rockers vs. Haku/Barbarian match at WM 7?
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Say what you want about Duggan, but every time I've seen him live (WWF/WCW), he's received MONSTER pops! He's a common man who can kick ass and smile at children. Plus, his Boston Garden matches with Andre the Giant are actually quite good. Duggan definitely gave it his all against The Boss. I believe he lost by CO, pinfall, and pinfall in a lumberjack match. However, if anything, the matches put Duggan over even more by Andre's awkward selling. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 27, 2002 no dude he showed potential doing commentary. he did actually talk about the match and seemed to know a lot about what was going on.
Guest dpac Report post Posted June 27, 2002 in one of the andre/duggan matches didnt hacksaw break his 2x4 over andre?
Guest FakeRazor Report post Posted June 27, 2002 I had a dream that Jim Duggan tried to hit me with a 2X4. Even scarier, he was dressed as a janitor, and this was years before his WCW stint... Duggan was supposedly an ok wrestler in Mid South, I can't comment because I haven't seen any of his work there, but in the WWF he sucked in the ring. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 27, 2002 "look at the disgusting fool, with snot hanging out of his nose" That was a classic right there. The next time WWE goes by Duggan's home town, they should have him make an appearance. Fans would probably go crazy. They could have someone beat him up for good heat as well. Guest Drury37 Report post Posted June 27, 2002 Or if someone is getting be up and Jim Duggan runs down to ringside to help him,I think that would be kind of awesome!!!No matter where Jim Duggan wrestles he is always a fan favorite!!! Thanks.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 27, 2002 i'm sure duggan would run down and beat on lance storm and christian. HOOO!!!!! TOUGH GUY!!!!
Guest SupaTaft Report post Posted June 27, 2002 *cough* look at my sig *cough* True it was said by Chopper Dave, but it was an homage to Duggan. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted June 27, 2002 I was suprised when I read Dynamite Kid's book that he actually considered Duggan a pretty good wrestler. He said Jim got stuck with the stupid 3-point stance move but otherwise was really good. I really enjoyed watching his UWF run against One Man Gang as well.
