Guest BoboBrazil Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 "There are rumors that WWE may put the title on Kurt Angle and have him be portrayed as an "old time" champion who defends against both faces and heels." That is from the Wrestling Observer newsletter. I really hope Angle wins the title. This could turn him into a real badass if he destroys faces and heels. Plus, I want to see Angle vs Lesnar at Summerslam
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Bottom line is, Angle should be the prick/cocky heel Champion who dominates in matches because he's too good of a wrestler to the others (which he is). The only wrestler I can see to match Angle is Benoit, but they've had their feud already. An Angle/RVD feud would be interesting. If Angle gets to become the dominant/prick/arrogant heel, that would be good for Angle and for the product, especially the ME scene......

Angle would instead be either the wimpy wuss heel who needs help from everyone under the son to beat Val Venis, or the smiling 9/11 face, who uses the power of Milk to vanquish his foes. hooray. and while it sucks to see Jericho getting the first of many, many, many, many spears, it's better than watcher him get his ass kicked by Mark Henry.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 You may be right about that one. Angle as a heel has been made to look barely credible. If this rumor about his character turn-around is true, I hope he starts gaining the respect he deserves for his character. And I hope Vince & staff shows some remorse for Chris Jericho, damnit......
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Poor Jerich. Poor, Poor Jericho. Yeah, and the fact he bashed us in his commentary two days ago isn't easing the pain either.
Guest thebigjig Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 The Smackdown spoilers at PWtorch have a better description of the Angle/Cena match and it says that Angle bumps around for Cena like Flair did in his prime, which is always a good thing. It also has somewhere around 20 nearfalls. I'll be watching Smackdown just for that match But anyway, if they want people to take Angle seriously as a true dominant heel champion if they go that direction, or hell even if he's going to be a tweener, they need to change his music. The "You Suck" chant is fun and everything, but if he's going to have somewhat of a character change from goofy nerd to destructive badass, the music has got to go
Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 So wiat, the "dominant asshole prick champion" got his ass kicked and had a hard time beating a rookie (To the WWE) You just keep pushing him, Vince!
Guest Will Scarlet Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Angle needs to be a heel if he wins the title, he already bombed his face run with the title. I think angle could make a good face champion. In my opinion, the major reason his face run with the title bombed was because of the fact that they booked it horribly from the start. Ideally, he probably should have cut a promo at the start of the show saying how great it was to be the World Champion, how he beat Austin, and defended to WWF against the Alliance or something like that. Instead, he says absolutely nothing the whole night, Booker asks Shane for a title match backstage, and Shane grants it. The match was lacklustre, as Kurt wins, and that is all he did the whole night. Meanwhile, the announcers were worried about where Austin was the whole night, and seemingly barely mentioned Kurt Angle winning the World title, instead focusing on Austin the whole night. It hardly made Angle look like a credible champion, IMO.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 The whole "All Amercian Boy" shit really fucked him up as well. Before 9/11. Kurt was still defending America aaginst Austin. DAMN THOSE EVIL FOREIGN uhm...Texans?
Guest Incandenza Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Angle's face run started going downhill after Summerslam. The man was getting over fine on his own (check out that face pop he gets at Summerslam), but then the decision was made to turn him into Austin, Jr., and have him be all "badass," kidnap people and threaten to throw them off bridges. It totally went against Angle's character, and hardly anyone bought into it.
Guest thebigjig Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I never liked Angle's face promo's either... like the way he would shake and bob his head during every sentence... it got really annoying But I also think the main reason his face turn fell flat was because after Summerslam they kind of put him back in the dorky character mode which can be entertaining... but it doesn't make me want to really cheer for the guy, or care if he gets beaten up
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 the whole Noble/Nidia angle reeks of '95, I mean, the bare minimun salar for WWF wrestlers is $100,000+, with that in mind, why woul they live in trailers?
Guest Prince Paul Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Angle vs Brock at SS for the belt could actually get Brock over. Ya know, if they actually let them wrestle a little bit. Screw this monster crap, I want to see Brock bust out some matwork and submission holds. Of course, we're all jumping to conclusions here.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I just noticed why this Smackdown seems decent. There was no HHH on it!
Guest RickyChosyu Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Angle as the "Psycho Dork" character could really get over on it's own, I think. I don't see why they feel that everytime they push someone smaller than HHH they have to have to make them look completely hopeless and total fluke-champions to get them over. Angle got over just fine on his own with his psychotic "I'll break your Ankle!!!" character and I think that would be just fine for a heel character, because it makes sense now that he's lost his hair. Why not just push him and make everyone tap to his Anklelocke? That seems like a winning formula to me. Angle could be a monster heel if they wanted him to be. Same goes for Jericho.
Guest the 1inch punch Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I just noticed why this Smackdown seems decent. There was no HHH on it! Not that hel'l take the hint, and the ratings will be either shit-which will convince HHH is the draw on the show good-which means tey'll stick him on Raw so he can squash Benoit every week
Guest Masked Heel Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Glad to see that smackdown may be watchable tommarrow and maybe i'm crazy but it seems like the wwe is doing a better job if they don't bail mid stroke if they plan to put the belt on Angle let me just say its about damn time and there is no doubt in my mind that an Angle v Brock at SS would be Brocks best match to date and could get him over Jericho v Edge is fine by me i like it i think they can both put on a good match in the mean time the Brock v RVD program will be good Hogan will be in a program with Vince Team Canada can dominate the mid card let Booker be the top face of Raw Rock will have his time to do movies just find a place for Beniot and Eddie and damn the wwe could be looking up <------------ Master of Ruthless Agression Put it under my sig
Guest wwF1587 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I just noticed why this Smackdown seems decent. There was no HHH on it! I would watch it for that reason and that reason ONLY! Yah!!
Guest Angle-plex Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 -- Rikishi def. Test via DQ Can't have Test lose cleanly now, can we.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 -- Kurt Angle def. John Cena All the hype about the match is for naught, and the match, it ends in a wonderful modified rollup by Angle! SK will just love this. Heres a pic of Angle and Cena in the ring! -- Backstage, Cena and Undertaker meet each and engage in a staredown before eventually shaking hands. I dont get where they are going with this.. -- Billy & Chuck def. Hardcore Holly & Big Valbowksi Cole plays it up as if Holly and Val have been dying to be a tag team for the last 2 years, and they FINALLY get their shot. Bah! -- Lance Storm talks about Canada/USA again and says that tonight, he will defeat an American in a wrestling match. He cuts a pretty silly promo, on the Titan Tron none the less... -- Lance Storm def. Mark Henry But first they show Henry over the weekend lifting a 174 lb barbell with 1 hand. He really is the strongest man you know. -- Undertaker comes out and talks about how he sidelined Triple H after their match at King of the Ring. He says that when the Rock returns on July 11, he will put him out of action as well. Kurt Angle comes out and a match between Angle and Taker is made for next week. Angle puts the Ankle-Lock on Taker. Taker calls Angle a PUNK. Angle wants a match, but not tonight cause he had a TUNEUP match earlier, and taker points out the obvious. 4th of July Match - Taker vs Angle: a reason to sleep easier knowing Jeff Hardy will not win the Title on RAW! -- Rikishi def. Test via DQ Test gets DQed cause Rikishi shoved him into the Ref after Test was phyisical with the ref during the match. Funny stuff. Later on, Test, Christian and Lance Storm are in the back talking about how they don't like America. -- Jamie Noble and Nidia show off their new trailer (?) that they bought. Not aired. But, the segment after the Billy/Chuck Tag match, there is a FREAKING HILLARIOUS backstage skit where Nidia kisses Tajiri and her gum ends up in his mouth and he likes it or something. - In Vince McMahon's office, Vince tells Hogan that he is upset that Hogan tapped out this past weekend. He hopes it won't happen again tonight cause Hogan has to wrestle against Chris Jericho. Hogan says that someday he will beat Vince up. Yeah, but theres a pic on the wall the seems to steal the whole segment.. -- Billy Kidman & Hurricane def. Jamie Noble & Tajiri Standard WWE cruiserweight match. -- DVon Dudley & Deacon Batista def. Faarooq & Randy Orton. Rev. DVon has my vote for WORST Theme music ever, and his Titan Tron isn't that much better. Batista loses the Deacon title and wears wrestling gear. -- Hollywood Hulk Hogan def. Chris Jericho via DQ when Jericho used a chair on Hogan. -- After the match, Jericho continues to beat up Hogan when someone with long hair who looks like Jericho comes out from behind. It turns out to be Edge, who proceeds to brawl with Jericho. Jericho tries to run away but Hogan brings him back and Edge spears Jericho in the ring. Hogan needs to go away for a while. Jerich is about to chair Hogan, then out of nowhere his theme hits and do the grand entrance for..Edge.. Heres a pic of Edge thinking hes HHH or something... -- There were also some skits with Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler and Dawn Marie in swimsuits to hype up the Divas special over the weekend. These were interspursed throughout the show. The Final one with all 3 out at the same time was pretty wierd.
Guest DrEvil Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 But anyway, if they want people to take Angle seriously as a true dominant heel champion if they go that direction, or hell even if he's going to be a tweener, they need to change his music. The "You Suck" chant is fun and everything, but if he's going to have somewhat of a character change from goofy nerd to destructive badass, the music has got to go That's exactly what I was thinking. There's no way he can be a face with that music because the crowd's too into the chant. He also can't be made into a badass because of the comedic value of the chant, it requires that certain dorkiness that he plays so well. I just hope he doesn't become the world's most dangerous olympic champion again if he does go the badass route. I never liked that character and didn't think he played it very well. A cocky arrogance is much better suited for him.
