Masked Heel

TNA Impact 5/21/09

Recommended Posts

Thursday's "iMPACT!" will feature a huge Quadruple Main Event as four of the top TNA Superstars will be in action on the broadcast, with everything to lose just days before the huge Sacrifice main event for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship! In action on Thursday night will be Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett and TNA World Heavyweight Champion Mick Foley! Don't miss all four superstars in the main event at Sacrifice competing just days before the epic event on SpikeTV!

The broadcast will also feature a tag team bout with Lethal Consequences vs. The Motor City Machineguns vs. Daniels and TNA X Division Champion Suicide! Will the world finally find out the true identity of the masked superstar?

Plus, we'll hear from TNA World Tag Team Champions Team 3D, who will talk about their ongoing tournament where one team will get a shot at the gold!

All this and much more on Thursday's "iMPACT!" on SpikeTV, including more news and matches for the may 24 "Sacrifice" Pay-Per-View event!

I must have missed where they already announced Jarrett in the main event for Sacrifice or the preview is spoiling it.

The 3 way tag match could be good as they now have me somewhat interested who they have Suicide become if its Kaz or someone new.

I also look forward to the trifecta of acting talent that is Taylor Wylde, Lauren and Daffney

Is it, though? I've noticed the Dudley boys talking the division up lately, but outside of the Machine Guns (best team in North America today in my opinion) I really don't see anybody else of note there. Beer Money are okay, but I just don't rate Roode whatsoever (which is probably clouding my judgment on them.)

See I like Beer Money.. a lot then you got LAX and the Machine Guns, Lethal Consiquenses is a good low card tag team although they could be more if they toned down their gimmicks a little. The Brit team has potiential too. Then Team 3D is on top right now good solid vets.

Add to that at least they seem to hype the tag division up and sometimes preception is reality

Yeah, the opening three way tag match wasn't that solid really, so I guess I'm glad that isn't booked on the ppv. Suicide (Kaz I would presume) against Daniels should be good though, hopefully.

As usual with TNA, the stuff that sticks in my head from these shows is some of the unintentional humor, or maybe they are trying to be funny a bit but it comes off so hokey and cheesy that it works. Couple examples of this I've seen so far is Scott Steiner's goofy ass shit (running scared from the rafters, etc) and one of those TNA vignettes that make you just go WTF and then laugh at the absurdity of it with Nash and Booker in the ring "training" for the ppv by working shitty spots against each other in an empty arena, with some off the wall promos being cut by both guys. One part of Bookers ramblings made no sense whatsoever and I'm still not even sure I understood WHAT he even f'n said. Nash is now acting like he's the toughest guy around. For some reason, I laughed my ass off at the Eric Young/Jarrett interview in the back as well even though I'm sure that wasn't the intention. Oh well. Oh god, and how horrible was Lauren the interviewers skit with Abyss?!! Unbelievably bad to a whole new level of such. I'm not sure if I should laugh at her or cringe at her acting skills. Bitch, just go to porn, you'd be better off. Same for Jenna Morasca, who has no place on a wrestling show whatsoever.

I'm interested to see how far they go with putting this British Invasion team over (I could see them getting the belts imminently), and seeing Beer Money saving the Dudleys from a beatdown was kind of weird but I like that they are keeping this respect storyline going with those two teams. I tend to agree that the tag division is much better right now than it's been in TNA for quite a while, as I saw alot of decent work in the tag tournament to warrant some praises to the division as a whole. And since they pretty much have the unofficial X Division tag champs now with MCMGs, it seems to force the company to push the tag teams better than usual.

They did book some strong matches on paper with Young/Sting, Jarrett/Joe, and Morgan/Angle, but none had enough time to mean anything unfortunately. Very basic wrestling matches here. In fact, not nearly enough actual in-ring action on this show, as usual.

These Foley/Borash interactions every week get more and more annoying, like in a "why is this even being put on TV" unentertaining. So there is a clear difference between god awful shit on this show that makes you laugh and stuff like Foley/Borash which just makes you want to change the channel because it's just so lame. Kind of like 90 percent of WWE "comedy" attempts. This really wasn't a good night for Foley other than the opening promo with Jarrett, as that Rocky angle was ten million times of retarded.

Wow, so was that basically the only segment Cornette has done in like a month, being moderator of a lame contract signing with Kong and Love? What a waste all around that whole segment was. The least they could do with Cornette is have him be a third wheel on the announcing crew with Tenay and West (who is going uber-heel right now but still sounds like he's reading from a script sometimes). Oh and Angelina Love looked like a trashy version of Ashley Massaro, which is saying alot. This segment also didn't warrant a replay of it after the commercial whatsoever. Kong has taken out refs about a dozen times now, it seems like.

As all over the place that this show was, I still think they have a pretty solid lineup for the ppv, and that main event is pretty strong for what I figured was going to be a throwaway pay per view. But they did a very noneffective job of selling the pay per view on this show, however. The undercard has potential on paper, fortunately. Finally getting Joe/Nash, which most certainly can go either way, and I'm betting more on the bad side. Styles/Booker in an I Quit match could be strong, so we'll see. They are also trying out a hardcore Monster's Ball match with Daffney and Taylor Wilde which is a bit strange.

The last two weeks haven't been quite as good as some of the previous shows, but it's still a very solid show that's consistently worth watching. I actually thought the contract signing for the women's match was great as I absolutely loved Angelina Love's promo. She's such a cocky bitch that even when she's scared, she still just can't help herself from being completely patronizing and taunting Kong even more. I actually liked the Rocky angle too, the part where Mick was actually taking punches from the cutout while the guy hides behind Rocky like he doesn't want us to see him there was pretty funny. I mean, you can't expect too much new storyline development once the whole card's already set, but I still thought tonight's show was more entertaining than not.

I thought last week was a real dud and a complete waste of time to watch. This week was a substantial improvement but not a great show or anything. The two things I'll remember from it are Love's awesome promo and the Morgan/Angle match. To that end while I agree with you that you can't expect too much new story development on the "go home" show I was surprised by how those singles matches went as I thought they did a good job with the losers. The matches were clearly intended to help get over the Sacrifice main event but at the same time they managed to use them to advance the story of EY's frustration, make Morgan look great and advance his desire to join the Mafia, and push the Joe/AJ thing into physicality. It was just very effective use of 3 matches where the winner was inevitable.

The way Don West sold that Rocky angle had me laughing nonstop. That and Tenay's disgust of the whole thing.
