Selling part of my life away today

As the title states, I sold part of my life today. I've been an avid comic book collector since about the age of 5. I'm faced with hard and pressing times concerning money right now, and I had to find a way to get money very quickly.

It sucks, but I'm a grown man, and I have to make sacrifices to make end's meat. And since I don't have steady employment, selling things is a short term fix while I locate employment.

Just in case you're wondering, here's what I sold:

Incredible Hulk # 181, 340

Giant Size X-Men # 1

Iron Fist # 14

Uncanny X-Men #'s 136, 137, 141, 142, 266, 282, 304

X-Men #'s: 25, 30, 150

Wolverine: #'s 10, 75, and a few others

Daredevil: 1st apperance of Bullseye, death of Elecktra, and a few others

I also sold ALL of my graphic novels, such as: Weapon X, Daredevil Visionaries 1 - 4, Batman: Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come, Watchmen, etc.

All in all, a wonderful, and amazing comic book collection spanning 16 years.

You could have whored yourself for money. One of my most sentimental possessions is this thing.

A birthday gift I got from my best friend at the time (I think I was 9. Or maybe 27).

That's why I always make sure that I have money saved and never get into debt because I could never imagine giving up possensions of my childhood.

How come you can't get work? You could've just grabbed a few shifts at a fast food joint. I know it's not the best but I hate when people say they can't get a job when there's alot of choices to be found.

I've been broke ever since leaving the Marines. Plane tickets home, repairs on my car, going to college, moving, etc. Those things keep me pretty well drained for cash, as well as a girlfriend, who I try to spoil whenever possible.

I have put in over 20 applications at every restaurant in town, and even the fast food restaurants. Trust me, I've done it. No one is hiring down here, not even part-part time like the National Guards.

So, every weekend I am forced to drive an hour and half up north to work at my old job.

I didn't really want to move, but my significant other wanted to. So, what mama wants, mama gets. She better damn appreciate what I did today.

Are you handy? There's always, ALWAYS work for mechanics, laborers, painters, construction.

I'm lucky enough to be skilled at business matters but I can also write, work/repair cars, do industrial paint and I still have a standing offer to work at Hustler of all places.

What I'm saying is, might help to look in odd places. Fuck, even Janitorial work if you must. It's not glamorous but if you need cash while waiting for a real job, it's there.

I agree with KKK. You can't just give in to your girl so much. You WILL grow bitter and upset. I love my girl to death but a thing I love about her is that I know she doesn't need me to survive. She can handle her shit and to me, that's sexy as hell. I take comfort knowing I won't have to worry about her falling into debt and needing me to fix it or make the income for the household. If anything, she'll probably make more then me down the road.

Oh. That's a misconception right there. I didn't give in to her, she actually was disappointed in me for selling them, she knows how much they meant to me. I was just being realistic, and knowing that money is extremely tight.

Yes, I am very handy. However, I don't have an associates or a bacholers to back that claim up, which nearly every single job you listed requires. I've checked Michigan Works numerous times, and everything either requires a degree or enlistment into a military branch.

Thank you for your advice though Hawk, mucho appreciated.

Also, regarding the comics, I WILL have them again someday, and in better shape.

How won't they be mine? Most of the ones I sold were from mile high, e-Bay, or various stores.

And, that is highly unlikely I would balme her for this. It's not like I am going to forget the look on her face, her hugging me, and kissing me. She was upset for me, dude.

It's only natural. You're too young to know any better. Take heed in a wise elder when he tells you these things.

I know that will happen to me as well. Look at all marriages that go beyond 5 years, resentment and bitterness become natural elements.

What KKK is saying is that there's a difference in what you grew up with and buying it now (or down the road, for that matter) the value is far greater personally with the attachment of childhood. He's right in that we all grow to blame others for anything and in time, you'll attach blame to the girl.

I do think you're giving into her. I get that as a male, you worship her. That is all good and somewhat normal but if my girl was basically pushing me to move against my will or ability (since now you're forced to drive out further), I wouldn't be a happy customer.

Hah.

Of course I'm giving into her, every man eventually gives into a woman, especially the one he loves. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

And it's not fair to put all the blame on her about the move.

In all reality, it was a double edged sword for us.

We move = her not having to drive in the shitty weather, being tired, etc = us not having steady employment and we having to come back every weekend

We don't move = her having to drive in the shitty weather, tired, etc = me being worried about her personal well-being, plus her 17 year old car would surely die from the wear and tear

Each side has it's pros and cons, however, I'd choose the former any day of the week.

Is there something wrong with my choice?
