As she unveiled her energy plan Monday, Sen. Hillary Clinton said that engines have changed little since Henry Ford invented the Model T, adding "in fact, that Model T got better gas mileage than your typical SUV does today."

 

Not really.

 

Clinton's line can be traced to a 2003 Sierra Club advertising campaign that said the Model T could go 25 miles on a gallon of gasoline. Federal statistics show the average 2007 sport-utility gets 18 m.p.g. in real-world driving. According to Ford Motor Co. and Model T clubs, typical Tin Lizzies averaged 15 m.p.g.

 

Those Model T cars weighed about 1,200 pounds, lacked any safety devices and hit a top speed of 45 miles per hour. A modern SUV tips the scales at 4,200 pounds, hits a top speed of 140 m.p.h. and usually can tow a few thousand pounds.

 

When adjusted for weight using federal formulas, the average SUV of 2007 is more than 4.5 times as efficient at burning fuel than Henry Ford's original - a fact that's unlikely to be an applause line anywhere outside Detroit.

TUUSULA, Finland (AP) - An 18-year-old gunman killed eight people at a high school in southern Finland on Wednesday, then shot himself but survived, police said.

 

Police said the gunman was taken to hospital with serious wounds and they had the situation "under control" after they surrounded Jokela High School in Tuusula, some 30 miles north of the capital, Helsinki.

 

It was the first known school shooting in Finland, where gun ownership is fairly common by European standards, but shootings are rare.

Jesus, at least when an American goes nuts and kills people they have the ability to finish the suicide portion of the process properly.

The shooter posted a video of himself on Youtube.

"I am prepared to fight and die for my cause," read a posting by a user of the same name.

"I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection."

So I guess by attempting suicide, he feels that he is unfit and a disgrace to the human race.
