My Day of Wrestling

Recommended Posts

Guest ShootingStylesPress

Yesterday there was a SmackDown house show in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and predictably it sucked. However, I couldn't care less as my day was amazing.

I wake up and hear my brother talking about going to the airport in ten minutes, which frightens me, because we were going to do that, but no one told me that they were going in ten minutes. See, we usually go to the airport to see the wrestlers come off the plane, get autographs, pictures and that. Now, I know it may not be the best place to meet wrestlers, after they just woke up off the plane and everything, but some are really awesome, too.

My friend is a huge Angle fan, and meeting him was pretty big for him. He got Angle to sign his WWE Title replica and got a picture, so that was great. Angle seemed tired, but he still did his thing, so I was happy.

We watch wrestlers walk off the plane, and in the distance we see...

"Holy shit, is that Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat?"

We walk over quickly and ask if we can get some autographs and everything, and he was great about it. At one point, he asked us if there'd be any interest in him and Flair having one last match on PPV or anything, and of course we said yes. And while I know Steamboat is 52 and all, and maybe it wouldn't be an immediate five-star classic, it would be amazing. Him asking just makes me think that he may be thinking of talking to a higher-up about doing that, which is just awesome. We talked about favourite matches, and my friend said Chi-Town Rumble `89, and Steamboat said he liked his re-match in Orlando, 2/3 falls better. Overall, classy and amazing guy.

Another friend of mine, just getting off his 'Dragon' rush continues looking for Paul London. He's a huge ROH fan and all that, and a big fan of London, as well as I. One of the very last guys out is that man, London, and he was great too. We followed him to the luggage cartel as he told us, and we talked, posed and got things autographed. He said he'd like to do a ladder match in WWE, but you can only do it with certain people, like Akio, he named specificly. He talked about how he was facing Dupree, and asked if their were any stipulations, to which my friend said it was a Rumble qualifier. London said "I doubt they'll mention that on TV. 'Over the weekend, Paul London got squashed by Rene Dupree.'" He also said to be really loud and to cheer a lot, as we'd be the only guys who knew who he was. He was great, really awesome.

I also met Cena, and asked if he came up with 'Ruck Fules', and he did. He said he saw a sign during the election that said 'Buck Fush', so he took it from that. Cena was cool as well.

My friend asked Eddie for an autograph, but he declined. He looked upset and tired, so I don't blame him, but it didn't stop my friend from making about 73 alcoholic jokes. Eddie even looked tired at the house show, giving a Basham one of the worst Frog Splashes I've ever seen. I still got his Scarface take off shirt because I really like it, and still like Eddie.

Show starts, London vs. Dupree is first. I grab my sign ('Paul London is Godly!' with a gold lightning bolt'), which London sees, as does Dupree. Rene tells me to give it to him, which I do, and he takes it into the ring and shows everyone, before ripping it up. Ah, it was great. I don't mind really, it was fine.

Other highlights of the shows include:

-Dawn Marie's cellulite ass, that resembled a mini-Rikishi, ick. Jackie was hot though.

-OJ has hair now, something I didn't know, as I don't watch SmackDown much anymore.

-JBL cut a funny promo, talking about how he was glad to be in Newfoundland (har har har), talking about Mad Cow and congratulating Brian Hebner on his father having screwed Bret, to which Bradshaw did a funny impression of Bret after he lost (lots of crying and saying 'WCW' whilst doing the finger thing). He and Big Show had a bad match, but Big Show did a kip-up with helping of the top rope, so I was impressed.

Overall, a good night. We came back to a friend's house, with 12 people in a van designed for 7, and watched TNA. That too was fun.

Whew, exhausting day and exhausting write, ahar.

It's funny. One day we read about Ric Flair going off on Canadian fans for talking about all the Bret shit. Saying they're living in the past and won't drop it...and a whole bunch of other shit.

The next day, WWE wrestlers are the ones bringing it up.

I wonder why the crowds won't drop it?

Plus, I think Steamboat kind of deserves to be a mark for himself, as he is Ricky Steamboat.

Your friend deserves a punch in the face.

You must have just caught Eddie on a bad day, as the last show I went to had him staying much longer after the show to meet with fans than any of the other wrestlers. In fact, I think it really depends on what kind of day they've had with most of the wrestlers.

My thoughts exactly on Eddie.

Dawn's behind is usually nice, but last night it wasn't too hot, I don't know why.
