    This Week in Baseball 6/16 - 6/22

I don't post here often, but... Cito Gaston is back in Toronto? Are you fucking kidding me?

    TSM Superhero Draft

Quick question - because every Flash has their own distinct characterization and story, are we considering them separate a la Green Lantern or same like Superman(s)?

From where I sit, he's all yours. Gambit sucks. Always has, always will.

    TSM Superhero Draft

I think Lex and Supes have worked together in the past, but it's in a situation that suits Lex first and foremost. I did debate between Lex and Nova, btw, but I came to a similar conclusion as TI in that if Lex isn't on a team with Supes his ego would dictate that he'd pretty much HAVE to lead, and I'm not sure that would be a viable situation for the team I want.

That was one of my potential "sleepers", actually. Nice.

    Woks are the shit.

It comes from experience. And my wife yelling at me Gordon Ramsay style for making a red sauce in the wok.

So, should we leave Sinestro for you? Rowe, I like your pick (I'm a fan, hence I'm disappointed with Whedon's AXM conclusion), but in my opinion you probably could've waited until next round to get her. With that being said, I've always hated picking in the middle in fantasy drafts. I always find it to be the hardest position to go from.

I like that pick. Reed isn't one of my favourites but you can't go wrong with a guy who has the ability to McGyver a cosmic thingamajig out of popcorn and a thumbtack.

    TSM Superhero Draft

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyways, I thought about this, and two names kept coming up for my second pick. I felt that my other pick had alternate choices that would be as good (or better), so with my second pick I choose... Nova, the Human Rocket The Nova Corps was meant to be Marvel's answer to the GL Corps, and as such Rich Rider's origin has some parallels to Hal Jordan's, although it's more like Kyle Rayner's (so I guess Kyle was modeled somewhat after Rich?). For a while, Rich was just one Nova Prime among the corps. He lost his powers, but they were reactivated and he became a core member of the New Warriors. During the Annihilation Wave, he becomes the last surviving member of the Corps and joins with the Xandarian Worldmind to become even more powerful, helping to defeat both Annihilus and the Ultron/Phalanx invasions. Oh yeah, and you should really be reading Nova if you're not already. DnA has written the best Nova since Fabian Nicieza.

I'm still trying to find the balance between characters I like and "best player available", to be honest. For instance, I don't particularly like Superman, but if he fell to me I'd still take him. For the record, I like Phoenix. I'm kinda biased towards the mutants in general.

There was definitely the thought that she could be a sleeper but to use fantasy football terms I think you guys all took stud RBs, so I took a QB that is likely to rack up points. Then again, maybe I just took a kicker in the first round ...

There was also the thing where Jean either was or wasn't Phoenix based on whoever's writing her at the time.

    TSM Superhero Draft

My first pick is probably a round too early, but whatever. I'm taking Phoenix (Rachel Summers) If you're talking about power, you can't go wrong with a primal force in the Marvel Universe. There's perhaps limitless cosmic and psionic power at the hands of the person hosting Phoenix. As for why I chose Rachel over Jean Grey, it's a bit of personal preference as I read a lot of Excalibur back in the day. Also, Rachel has some limited time-travel ability. And being Canadian, I'd have to draft at least one person with a mullet, no?

Well, yeah. Except for Carnage. And any other spawns of Venom. Also, good thing Nate didn't specify Symbiote Spidey.

A list of foods I hate

Canned peas are nastier, but not by much. With that said, I'm actually surprised that strained peas don't taste all that bad. Mind you, I only try maybe a drop at a time when feeding the baby, so I'm probably just fooling myself.

TOO clever, as it turns out.

So here's a question then: Do we consider the Brock Venom and Gargan Venom as separate characters? I would vote no, as the personality of the symbiote is more dominant over either guy. But then where does that leave the Scorpion if someone were to take a flyer on him in the late rounds? Overall, my preference would be to stay away from amalgamated characters. Just my opinion.

wait, was this a fantasy-style "snake" draft or a pro league style draft?

A list of foods I hate

I'd have to agree. I had some fresh sea urchin, but I gotta say that I didn't care for it at all. Gotta be an acquired taste. Me, I dislike cilantro, but it seems to depend on it's use. I'm good with it in pico, but once that stuff gets the tiniest bit cooked, I seem to have a gag reflex with it. This is a bad thing with pho if I forget to tell the waitress to skip cilantro. Also, I'm not a big fan of marrow.

    Woks are the shit.

I'm Asian so... yeah, the wife and I use it for a lot of stuff. Saute veg? Yep. Steam a whole fish? Yep. As a "deep" fryer? Done that too. Fried eggs? Too messy - we use a nonstick for that stuff. Hamburger Helper? That too, but only once as I discovered that HH is pretty gross. Just as a side note, that "grease that wok" thing is pretty true if you've got the cheap variety (and really, you don't need anything more expensive) - it's similar to curing your cast iron pot. You need to coat that sucker with oil periodically and sit it on a burner so that the oil sinks in. Especially if you throw in something with high acid like tomatoes.

    The Beer Thread.

That's definitely what I'd be all for. But then that wouldn't be a draft, it'd be more of a compilation of regional brews (microbrew, commercial local - like Shiner or Fat Tire - et al) to try out.

The one where we talk about Secret Invasion

Yeah, Proton. Those third series of recruits are already down two with him dead and Butterball washing out. "Hey Tony, you're so Skrully and you don't even know it"
  24. starvenger

    The Beer Thread.

Parameters? I ask because I'd think that many of us would nominate a local brewpub draft, and it's be difficult for us to judge on that.

    UFC "major" announcement thread

They need a James Irvin figure with "One Punch! One Punch!" action. Also, Chris Leben with a jaw that, when hit, causes him to hit back, a Nate Quarry running man figure, and, of course, a GSP figure that backflips but never quite hits it.
