To me, it seems like he's saying these things because it's the proper PR thing to do. The truth is, the fact pace of the show mirrored the first season's pace meant an inevitable dropoff as people expected things to pick up right where they left off. Personally, I'm glad that they took the time to build things up and pay them off at the right times, instead of capitulating to those that were too impatient and demanded instant gratification.
