    Survivor: China

You know, I had kept the whole Chyna pictoral out of my head and you had to bring it up. I think I'll need a stiff drink right now, and it's 8am. WRT to airbrushing - yeah, I know it's computers now, but I'd still call it airbrushing for lack of a better description of what's going on, no?

    Tales of Restaurant Misbehavior

Who said anything about fighting the power? If I were fighting the power, I wouldn't be ordering/eating/arguing about mass produced goods at a fast food restaurant. Let's not get to the point where I'm Eric Schlosser. Hey, you're willing to pay extra if you don't have to... great. I'm just not willing to do that since I hadn't done so at other locations. And it was a breakfast sandwich, dammit. No, I got mad because the manager came over and acted condescendingly towards me when I asked her about it. BTW, who's Deon? Seriously, I have no idea who that is.

    Tales of Restaurant Misbehavior

As Venkman said, the Canadian dollar is at par with the US. I'm not saying you should read the business section of a newspaper once in a while, but... actually, yes I am. Anyway, as alfdogg noted, they don't normally charge you for extra condiments on your sandwich. Cheese and bacon, sure. But lettuce? C'mon. As for stupid stunts, most of the people at my office (all of whom are older than 25) agreed with me. You agree to pay the extra money - 20 cents or 20 dollars - you're just giving in.

    New Baseball Uniforms for 2008!

Ugh. I thought we got rid of these twenty years ago. Pullovers aren't good-looking. Love the return of the original logo, though. Agreed. Slim pickings for Blue Jays throwbacks. Hopefully, this will show current fans that the original logo is still the best one.

Ashley looks scary without makeup. I have to say, the Playboy makeup/airbrush artists are miracle workers.

    Favorite Restaurants

You forgot to mention that the family size dishes are huge and good for probably 3-4 people, at very reasonable prices. Back from Vancouver, and I have to say that Thai-Malay restaurant Tropika is pretty good. It's not as good as Restauran Malaysia here in the GTA (noodle dishes are too sweet), but good curry, excellent crab, and the roti is tasty and a decent size.

    The TSM Recipe Thread.

Wanted to share something I found in Alton Brown's book - homemade microwave popcorn. Ingredients: 1/3 cup popping corn Butter (whatever amount you like to use) Salt Brown Paper Bag Stapler - Melt the butter in the microwave first, which also serves to get the microwave pre-warmed - Add the popping corn into the paper bag. - Fold bag flat, getting rid of as much excess air as possible. - Fold the top over twice in 1/2" folds. Staple the top twice, about 2/3" from the edges (no more than two staples!) - Put the bag in the microwave, zap it and let it go until the pops are 2-3 seconds apart (about 2-3 minutes... the bag may burst) - Open bag, dump contents into a bowl, add the butter and salt and enjoy. The amazing thing to me is that the staples don't cause any sparks. This is tons cheaper than buying microwave popcorn, and you can control the amount of butter/salt/whatever you put in there. I generally get a pretty good popped to unpopped ratio as well, so I think it's great value for money. Again, I found this in Alton Brown's book "I'm Just Here For the Food". It's a great read.

    Buffets

We really need to start a tipping thread. Anyone have any recommendations for Vancouver (going there for a wedding next weekend)? I went to one place that was an All U Can Eat, but you could have EITHER Japanese OR Korean BBQ. Odd, but the place was packed. Don't remember the name, but obviously looking for other recommendations.

    Last Comic Standing?

At some point I realized that I enjoyed Next Comedy Legend much better than LCS, but I'm more into improv anyways. I have a sinking feeling that the hemi guy is gonna win this. Next week, Dat Phan II aka Josh Blue (who at least is funny, but would he have won had he not had a handicap? No fucking way).

    Buffets

Ah, but you go to one of the buffets at a Vegas megacasino, and the prices aren't exactly low. It is, however, cheaper than eating at one of their restaurants and the food is generally top notch. Out of curiosity, is this Vegas price rise a recent thing? I've been twice (the first time in 2003) and despite what films like Kingpin would have me believe, the cheapest buffet was like $20. You must be going to the high-end hotels. Downtown and other off-Strip casinos (aside from the Rio) and cheaper Strip properties generally have dinner buffets in the $10-17 range. The one at the Golden Nugget downtown is $16.99 for dinner and quite good. Orleans is $13.95 and decent. I did say Megacasinos - basically the ones on the Strip. I would recommend checking out Las Vegas Advisor since they list a lot of bargains around town.

Yeah, especially the old ones, who pretend that they don't understand English. Or even Cantonese when I give them shit for doing that. It's generally worst at the raw bar/cooked seafood stations. It actually amazes me that Chinese restaurants have finally started providing communal chopsticks so that everyone doesn't stick their own into the food.

    UFC 74

Vera's taking on Sylvia circa 76 or 77, so it's probably not him. Nog or Mirko would probably make the most sense, or if Henderson makes it past Rampage, you might as well have him fight for a 4th belt. why the hell not, eh?

Move over Ninja Warrior, the King is back

No kidding. I can't wait until G4 starts showing this past one. Apparently it's even more brutal than ever. As for AG, I'm glad it's back. Sure the original was corny, but I liked it. The only thng I didn't like was the choice of contestants. The selection process favored speed and quickness over strength (except for chinups I think). As a result, you've got a 5'10", 170 lb. contestant trying to outwrestle a 6'6", 270 lb. gladiator. A win is a miracle unless the Gladiator fucks up. The one time they had a comparable contestant (he was like 6'2" 235 or something) he ran over the gladiators in Powerball and Breakthrough and Conquer. I guess they wanted to emphasize the size of the gladiators, but I would like to see a more even playing field. Two Scoops owned the Gladiators. I think the mystique was gone after that. Viper was a better heel, because everyone just considered him to be Nitro-lite, and thus they hated his ass. They show AG in reruns up here on ESPN Classic Canada, and it's scary how Diamond's boobs got bigger every year. Gotta figure that Lee "Hawk" Rehrman will be doing colour here. And if they're basing this off of the UK Gladiators, will they play "Another One Bites the Dust" after Gladiator wins in Joust/Duel?

    UFC 74

We do remember that Hughes took down GSP in their first fight, right? I think Rogan has hated GSP ever since Joe verbally fellated Jay Heiron and GSP fucked him up good. Plus GSP is French-Canadian, and I'm sure that the only French-Canadians that Joe likes unconditionally work at Chez Paris or some other fine Montreal establishment.

    Buffets

That's still service, guy. Now, if they're letting your dirty plates pile up in front of you, different story, but if they're constantly clearing your eating area and refilling your glasses, I say that's worth at least 10% or $1-2 for buffets < $10. But always check the bill, as some places tack on the gratuity regardless of service.

    UFC 74

I like that he's so blatant about his fight plan. I hope GSP has been working takedown defence with Rashad again, or he's gonna get Sherked for fifteen. I don't care how good on his feet Koscheck is now, but that's the most viable strategy against GSP.

    SuperBad

It's kinda weird seeing him doing this after three years as Charlie Eppes. I really wanted to like this movie, but it really wasn't all that great. It was decent, it had it's funny moments, it had those painful moments, but in the end it wasn't something I was likely to remember aside from the name "McLovin". But really, the problem seemed to be Seth. It seemed like they tried to make Seth a Vince Vaughn-type character, but for that to really work Seth needed to never not be a prick, and he never truly commits to it. I also could've done without the sleepover scene, but I'm sure that was there to ensure that everyone in the theatre was uncomfortable before the end scene.

    Box Office report

Well, she does have an Oscar. But I agree that she's doesn't warrant the money she demands. Her last big hit was the others and that was 6 years ago. Well, she warrants it more than, oh, Chris Tucker. Just saying.
