  1. Friends was built entirely around the 6 characters, and to break that up would've killed the show a lot earlier (which I'm sure some of you wouldn't have minded). CSI is more similar to ER and Law & Order, both of whom have replaced characters over the years - to the point where there are only 2 original cast members remaining among the two shows, and one of them came back after an extended absence. In some cases you can get away with using a similar character - for instance, there really isn't much difference between ADAs Alex Cabot and Casey Novak on Law & Order: SVU save for their appearances - but I think that they'll go more the NYPD Blue route and introduce entirely different characters which will provide a new dynamic to the cast. BTW, I've also heard that the actor who plays Grissom (I'm just getting into the show, so I'm not 100% familiar with the actors) wants out after his contract is up. Any truth to that?
  2. No, I think Animal Farm is satire. A comedy based on a superhero comic book isn't necessarily satire.
  3. You must be able to read between lines, because I read "zany comedy", not "satirical comic book movie".
  4. Wait... isn't Guy in Hell or something? Or is "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League" gonna be an Elseworlds story?
  5. Someone wanna take a swipe at this?
  6. That's kinda fucked up.
  7. From the article: '"As I understand it, DC Comics tried desperately to dodge this bullet, but ultimately, they don’t have the right to veto something if Warner Bros. really wants to make it happen" Which may also explain why they can't do anything about the Superman script. Or Catwoman. We're obviously looking at things the wrong way - we need to ask ourselves why Batman Begins actually looks GOOD...
  8. Very true. Normally I'll look for "tells" and switch it up if necessary. Same thing with play action - if it looks like a blitz, I'll call an audible. Of course, sometimes the blitz is pretty well disguised, and I end up SOL. But what's a little video football without getting really pissed off at the AI?
  9. As TMQ would note about the real game, if you've got 1st and Goal from under 5, then pound, pound, pound (and pound) it in. If you feel cheap, go no huddle with the same play. 1st and Goal from over 5, try for a play action, or go for short outs using a 4-receiver set. Don't try for too complicated a pass play, as you'll probably just get picked. Also, I've found that a counter run is effective, but then I use backs that are more agile than powerful.
  10. DS9 was the red-headed stepchild where basically Ira Steven Behr was allowed to play around and do what felt right. Mirror Universe? Sure. Long story arcs? Why not? Rat-Pack era lounge singer? Hell yeah! (Note - Although I love the Vic Fontaine character, I have to question the sanity of Behr, Moore and the others for deciding that they needed a holographic recreation of a Vegas singer as a recurring character). Anyways, back to Stargate. I'm kinda thinking that Stargate doesn't have that kind of baggage that Trek has to worry about. Stargate: Atlantis might (seeing as it's a spinoff) but it seems pretty self-contained (as I understand it) so I think it'll be OK.
  11. I have some theories: 1) It's Trek. 2) They probably have to pay the actors for the sit-down interviews on the discs 3) It's Brannon Braga's fault (when all else fails, blame Braga)
  12. You know, I was just saying that Kilowog needed to have his own movie... or would Black be better as G'Nort?
  13. Well, I've already gotten the DS9 and TNG sets (thank you, Paramount, for sucking ~$2K out of my bank account. Bastards), so I'm pretty much ok there. Priority for me goes to Sliders seasons 1&2 though...
  14. You forgot to mention that in Canada there is no White Castle. There's McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Harvey's and A&W, but nothing that sells stuff remotely like a slider. I think that most people just go to Timmy Ho's if they've got the munchies. btw, have they built anything on that corner next to the HMV yet? I haven't been to Yonge/Dundas in a long time...
  15. Good call there. I got around $20 each for Madden 2004 and Smackdown HCTP which is definitely more than GameStop or EB woulda given me. I love Fry's. Mostly because they put out flyers advertising $10 on some new releases. And since I've got a Best Buy Rewards card (hey, they gave it to me gratis) I go there and price match, and get the points as well.
  16. Guys, if you have a Fry's in your area, they're selling NCAA2005 for $37.99 on both XBox and PS2. So do the price match thing if you can...
  17. I've seen it sold for between $30-40. The guy I talked to said that the box says "thousands of games" but really there are only about 80 that repeat. And as for the names, yeah, I think they just programmed them in to more or less fit the genre. Basically look at the name, and think of the NES equivalent, and that's probably it. Smackdown! was M.U.S.C.L.E. btw. This is true, but since this system is designed like those Atari/Intellivision games that they're selling right now, you can bring it to a friend's place and play it. Plus... a light gun!! I have the emulator on my PC, and I almost bought this thing anyways because you could play Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley...
  18. Confession time - I've never been to an In-N-Out Burger. But in the end, a burger joint is still a burger joint. Some may suck more than others though...
  19. I'd read that they changed the guidelines though - they wanted more eps within a certain timeframe or something to that effect. So being a cable show, The Shield coulda straddled one of those time boundaries and gotten screwed.
  20. Well I was somewhat on the mark there. Was it Destiny's mask? That Dazzler cover was from the 80's btw. She's not, really. The storyline had the X-Men splitting up to find two mutants that popped up on Cerebro. One was Dazzler, the other ended up being much more important to the X-Universe - Kitty Pryde.
  21. Sounds like Babylon 5 in a way. Another show I need to watch...
  22. I think The Shield didn't have enough episodes to qualify, but I'm not 100% certain on that...
  23. Absolutely nothing. But he did do the never-seen movie (created on a severe shoestring to protect the rights to the property). The point was that internet comics fans like complaining about stuff as much as internet wrestling fans. If it's not close to Lee and Kirby's story, they're gonna be upset about it. I wasn't saying that people didn't have good arguments, but it's stuff like "hey Alba's not a blonde, therefore this will suck" that really irritates me. Especially since these are the same people that will praise this movie once it comes out.
  24. That's pretty much along the same lines. You create something, it explodes. Jubilee CAN create massive explosions (like in that Mandarin-Psylocke storyline) but she's never been able to control them at that level. Meltdown has. And I can't say I really cared for Dazzler much either, aside from the Fall of the Mutants storyline (she had a mask grafted onto her face. Or she was blinded. It's a bit fuzzy right now). Or Shatterstar, who I think had to be retconned because Liefeld drew him with 5 fingers (it's a rather complicated story for non-comic fans, I won't get into that here).
  25. Just so you know that the IWC isn't the only place where people bitch and moan about things, check out the Newsarama boards where they apparently hate Jessica Alba, Tim Story, Roger Corman and anything to do with this movie.
