Character Moments That Now Make You Cringe or Shudder
Midnight Marauder replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in General Wrestling
During the early moments of Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka from ECW ONS '05, Joey Styles was burying Awesome on commentary for the way that he departed ECW in 2000. Awesome did a topé onto Tanaka on the floor which caused Joey to remark "suicide dive by Mike Awesome...and It's a shame that he didn't succeed in taking his own life." -

Perfect timing to put the belt on a guy

I wasn't alluding to anyone specifically jumping with a belt to WWF. Just stating that I doubt Vince would have objected. From what I understand, Vince wanted his new acquisitions to walk out of their respective territories without doing any jobs because he feared the footage would be used on tv. I have heard that Steamboat was one of the guys that was instructed to do this and he didn't go along with it. -

Hogan and the AWA title does seem like an obvious pick, but Hogan didn't want the title because of his deal with New Japan at the time. Verne Gagne had a deal with rival All Japan and wanted a percentage of Hogan's NJPW earnings, which Hogan refused. Hogan was going to accept Vince's offer whether he was AWA champion at the time or not. Vince would have insisted that Hogan not do any jobs on the way out (ie: drop the title) and Verne probably would have had a situation on his hands similar to that of the debacle with Stan Hansen in '86. I tend to find myself amused when people talk about Montreal and Bret doing the right thing for business etc, yet during Vince's expansion in 1984, he didn't have any problem asking someone to simply walk out of a territory and if they had a belt, that would be a bonus. Same theory applies to the Monday Night Wars and WCW raiding Vince's talent. Somehow it was all unfair whenever the shoe was on the other foot. -

Chi-Town Rumble '89 - Ricky Steamboat defeats Ric Flair for the NWA World Title. All time classic match and as memorable a title change as any. Great American Bash '89 - Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk and the angle that followed where Sting saves Flair from Funk and The Great Muta, leading to an incredible brawl all over the arena to close out an awesome show. King of The Ring '93 - After defeating Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect and Bam Bam Bigelow in three great matches to win the tournament, Bret Hart's coronation is interrupted by Jerry Lawler, who proceeds to "crown" Bret himself. -
The Starrcade '89 theme was used by Bobby Eaton at some point, although I don't recall when that was. Anyway, here it is http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VDG0TWR0 Here is the Lex Luger theme that was requested earlier in the thread too http://rapidshare.com/files/28806028/WCW_T...___Slammer_.mp3
