    "Playboy" Buddy Rose Dead

Man, craziness. I mean, it's no shocker that old health nut finally kicked off...but still, kinda sad. Ahh, Portland's native son....I have a friend who lives there and she's like "Buddy Rose is all over the news here. Who is he?!" I just saw Rose (and Doug Somers) on an old AWA rerun---they bloodied The Midnight Rockers in a title defense. Decent match.

    Why wasn't Hakushi pushed?

Remember that dude with all the faux-tattoos---Hakushi? Upon entering the WWF he was thrown into a feud with Bret Hart and he did pretty well. But he left like less than a year after entering, if I recall. Anyone know what ever happened to him? Or why he left?
  3. Kerry Von Erich's daughter, Lacey, is supposedly set to pose for Playboy soon. I'm blaming it all on Fritz. Just 'cause.
  4. When you look at Windham's career holistically, top-to-bottom, is he considered an all-time great? Or just great? Or just a decent wrestler? I'm talking about his skill-set, his mic work, his matches, his resume, etc. I've always been a huge Windham fan so I'm kinda biased, but I felt like he carried a lot of people, put a lot of people over, etc. I think his best years, unfortunately, were during the NWA-WCW transition.

woah we got a bleeder here...

Wow, I can't believe anyone other than me even remembers this bout!! I swear I was about to reference it. Well done, man. Great pull.

    Another wrestling death

Mexican star Abismo Negro(Black Hole or Black Abyss) aka Winners in AAA (Andres Gonzolez) was found dead, floating in a river in El Rosario, Mexico earlier today González was on a bus with other passengers heading to Mexico City when he became agitated, and panicked and demanded to be let off the bus at 1:30AM. He then sent a text message his wife that he lost outside. She contacted local wrestling promoter Vicente Martinez who organized a search party. In the moring of March 22 González was found floating face down in a river. Gonzolez wrestled for AAA & CMLL/EMLL, WWE and as part of Team Mexico in TNA. He also appeared in Japan on several occasions. He was 37 years old.

Kane and MMA fighter in bar brawl?

Apparently, this isn't confirmed yet, but I heard it from a (normally) reliable source: March 17, 2009 DETROIT, MI - Former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia was involved in a fight at a bar in downtown Detroit Michigan with 7 foot, 320 pound WWE Superstar, Glen 'Kane' Jacobs (pictured above). No details are currently being released on how the fight started. A witness says the two were arguing and Tim Sylvia instigated the fight. Jacobs quickly took Sylvia to the ground and repeatedly punched him in the face. The bartender along with a bystander helped pull Jacobs off Sylvia. Sylvia was said to have suffered a broken nose and a black eye. The police were notified but since the fight was not prolonged and neither men wanted to press any charges, no arrests were made. Sylvia was driven by a friend who was with him to the hospital to treat the broken nose. Glen Jacobs left the scene with his wife shortly after. More details to be released as they come in.

    What are you reading?

Agreed---GWCH is easily my favorite work of his.

    Where are they now?

Yeh I definitely remember that. And I believe Jim Cornette started screaming "Mulkey-mania is runnin' wild!"

    Where are they now?

Does anyone know where the following wrestling personalities are now and/or what they're up to? Baby Doll Dark Journey Bill & Randy Mulkey

    What are you reading?

Reading a few at the moment: "A Fan's Notes," Frederick Exley "Jesus' Son," Denis Johnson "Airships," Barry Hannah
  12. I think this magazine was Eddie Ellner's baby. It was a magazine geared toward the heel perspective. I'm sure it only last a couple-few years, but I got a kick outta reading it when I was younger. Anyone else remember this?

    Does anyone remember "Rulebreaker" magazine?

Nice. Yeh, I had probably 5 or 6 issues, but then I couldn't find it anymore. Actually a pretty creative idea---too bad it never caught on. I just remember pretty much every article used to rank on ol' Dusty pretty bad. Which was, of course, hilarious.

    Book Club

"The Question of Bruno" by Hemon is really, really good. Bolano's works are, generally, just too damn long!

    Eastbound and Down

Hilarious show. Fourth episode is the strongest so far. I'd definitely give April "Big" Canons a shot at the title.

    Sublime Re-Unite After 13 Years...

Long Beach Dub All-Stars had a couple of goodies. I've always thought songs like "Rolled Up" and "My Own Life" were pretty catchy & fun. I mean, they weren't reinventing the wheel, but they seemed to have fun playing together and making music, and the tunes were comparable to Sublime.

AWA Wrestling back on the air

Whoa. Did that really happen? Wow. I'd like to see footage of that, too. What did Kerry do in response?

    Sublime Re-Unite After 13 Years...

I've heard it called Surf-abilly (like rock-a-billy). Sublime was actually inspired by a group called The Ziggens, who pre-dated 'em. Nowell's cover of "Big Salty Tears" is an ode to Sublime's major influence.

    Botches that actually improved matches

1987 War Games/Match Beyond. The Road Warriors hit the Doomsday Device on J.J. Dillon, who backflipped and landed awkwardly on his shoulder, separating it. Dillon surrendered moments later, but the legit injury definitely enhanced the match. Dillon wore a brace for the remainder of the summer tour.

    WEC 39: Brown vs. Garcia

Even though Brown looked extremely impressive against Garcia, I'm gonna pick Faber to squeak out a decision win in the rematch. I think he took Brown a bit lightly and did some silly stuff with the reverse elbow attempt, before getting caught on the button. I think he plays it much closer to the vest this time around and eeks out a close one.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

Garvin debuted as the "new" Freebird member at the June '89 Clash of Champions (VII). From what I've gathered, they hyped that the Birds would be getting a new member (Gordy was still with NWA/WCW at the time), and out came Jimmy Garvin with Hayes and Bam Bam. They went on to win the World Tag-Team Titles at that show. Yup. Garvin started going by "Jimmy Jam." He and P.S. clicked pretty well as a tag-team, actually. I'd venture to say they were more cohesive as a team than either Hayes/Gordy and Hayes/Buddy Jack. Garvin being the unofficial "4th Freebird" in World Class helped that a great deal. True, true. I was watching an interview with Jimmy Garvin recently....geezus that guy looks like shit. He looks like David Crosby these days. Poor Jimbo.

  23. Agreed (re: Magnum). The Warriors beat the Midnight Express in '88 to win the tag titles, no? The Warriors should have won the titles from Anderson and Blanchard at Starrcade '87. The finish in that match totally killed their momentum (and the Chicago market). They turned heel in 1988, which the fans never bought, and had a lackluster run with the belts in late 1988 and early 1989. All in all, it was a disastrous run given what they should have meant to the promotion. Yeh that makes sense. When they failed to beat Tully/Arn at Chi-Town Heat, I figured they would never get the straps. I dunno....I think they drew some legit heat after turning on Sting and putting him in a neckbrace. Course, I was fairly young so maybe I'm not remembering the crowd reaction that well.
