Try being in Boston ... they play that song at (literally) every Red Sox fan so it's reached a sickening level of popularity here.

I like plugs and I'm planning on getting them. My answer to the old age thing is the same as when people bring it up concerning tattoos. I'll be 60. I'll already be all old and wrinkly. Why would a couple of big holes in my ears bother me? Or with ink, why would a little bit of brightly cololred splotches on my skin bother me? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Would you also get tats on your face and hands? Most people that I know - even the ones that have full sleeves - left their exposed areas pretty much uncovered, so as to be able to hide the ink for the most part. Unless you keep long hair, you really can't hide your ears.

I was taking a shot more at ESPN's "efforts" to broadcast the games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ESPN's mockery and 'coverage' of the NHL has always enraged me, and it's getting worse. I was given a subscription to ESPN The Magazine as a gift, and it's laughable how much more frequently the rip on the league (using it as a punchline) than they do provide actual coverage. I don't know how real hockey fans work for ESPN (Hradek, Buccigross, et cetara)

Two of my recent ex-girlfriends, quite a few of my friends, and most of the coworkers that sit near enough to me to hear me playing one of the two most of the day.

They were pretty much all jobber shows, with a semi-legit "main event" at the end. Sunday Night Main Event started off as being all somewhat good matchups, but devolved to pretty much squash matches. Saturday night's World Championship Wrestling had a few good matches, but was pretty much just a jobber show, too.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a roto league is where you get a certain number of points for leading the league in the different categories (e.g. whoever has the most goals gets X points, second most goals gets X-1, third gets X-2, etc ... same with assists, points, =/-, saves, etc). Then your cumulative points are added up for your place in the leage. So instead of playing one team in a given week, you just manage your team to have the best stats in each category, and are in standings from most points to least, rather than in week-long wins & losses. Oh, and I'm signed up for both. Northern Lights 5 in both.

Kahran, while I agree with you that the announcers had a lot to do with it, in my eyes the bigger part of the perceived threat is that someone like Dibiase would give someone like Tito more offense and give more of an impression of fear than we see in matches today. Above and beyond letting Santana have some offense, he'd also stall, he'd climb out of the ring, he'd use the ropes to demand a clean break, etc. A Dibiase/Santana match would go 6-8 minutes or so. Compare that to the 3-4 minute matches we see now, and even if the announcers tripped over their dicks to hype the 'underdog', the guy would look less credible purely by not getting much in offensively.

So many bands to add to my list: pretty much every band referenced since I posted, with the exception of Coldplay (which I learned to like through a female friend of mine ... who's painfully attractive. She could have made me listen to Hitler's propoganda speeches and I'd have probably learned to like them.) DKM are more of an 'meh' than an actual hate. I've seen them live, and like the hardcore scene enough to appreciate them. But I wouldn't ever call myself a fan at all.
-
Hopefully we're allowed to pick more than one band ... Guns n Roses. Sublime. Tool. U2. Modest Mouse. The Ramones. Green Day. Nirvana. Pearl Jam. Aerosmith. Franz Ferdinand. Weezer. The Beastie Boys. The Clash. The Doors. System of a Down. I could go on and on. 'Popular' music sucks.

Sable looked far from perfect when VKM brought her back. Unless having leather in lieu of skin on the face == perfection.

Lushus, don't feel bad about going there ... I was going to make a "mixer" joke. /doesn't care that it was a long time ago
-
Lushus, I switched away from High Life when it became uber-trendy among the scenesters ... not directly because it was trendy but because of the people that ended up chatting with me because we were drinking the same beer. Some guy with extenders in his ears coming over and saying, "Champagne of beers!" just because we're both living the High Life at the time is enough to make you switch to something else. Darthtiki, I'm with you ... nowhere around here sells Single Barrel. I'm forced to slum it at the local TGIF's whenever I want to drink the Single Barrel.

The first two songs that popped into my head have already been named: Playground Love (AIR) from Virgin Suicides Mad World (Gary Jules covering Tears for Fears) from Donnie Darko

I've heard that Brian Johnson's voice is wicked shot, and he can't really sing enough to do a tour anymore. Which sucks because AC/DC is one of the bands that I'd love to see at this point. I saw them years ago, must have been 1989 or so, and while I loved the show I was just too young and not 'into' them enough to appreciate it like I would now. Ozzy & Sabbath leaving Ozzfest makes me much more likely to go to a show next summer.

With Vinny, Iginla, & Thornton all re-upping for long contracts, who's really available for next season as the prized young FA? Zdeno Chara? Sergei Samsonov?? All I kept hearing was that the Rangers were positioning themselves to sign one of the guys that was going to be available at a young age (because of the "7 years in the league" rule) and now each of the big names that they've mentioned has signed their way off the radar.

Toronto is fuckin' gangsta apparently

Just add it to the list, Bob. And if I'd verbally asked that question it wouldn't have sounded so wretched ... it was just when I saw it in writing that it looked so horrible. -

How many shooting deaths has TO had? Is it major American city bad yet? EDIT: What a fucking horribly worded sentence ... is it as bad as it is in major American cities? -
Even WCW started fucking around with that ... e.g. The Road Warriors, The Midnights & Williams vs. Freebirds (Garvin, Hayes, & Gordy) and The SST. Multiple feuds that really weren't related thrown together = a bad Wargames. WCCW did at least one, maybe two, in one of their big outdoor supershows. I think Hayes vs. Gordy was one of the matches (when Hayes was a face) and they had some kind of reverse battle royal where you had to climb up the various cages for prizes for the fans.

He'd look awfully good in a black & gold uni with a spoked B on the front ... but, like redbaron said, I don't see that happening here, either.
-
Do you think that Rrrsh will be pissed at the signing, redbaron? I liked AC when he was on the Bruins. I thought that he wanted too much money, so wasn't broken hearted when the B's traded him. (the fact that they got Guerin in return helped). But he can be a very good 2nd or 3rd liner if the price is right.

Mike, it's just a guess, but if he was on TV doing mock moves & whatnot along with acting in Aladdin, my guess is that his speaking ability hasn't been impaired too drastically. He might talk slower or more deliberate, but not like Larry Flynt or anything. What's to stop him? The fact that Michaels is highly unlikely to let Hart come out and just school him without getting a single offensive move in. And the fact that it'd be stupid for the WWE to let an active wrestler get completely squashed by a guy that hasn't wrestled in years and has no chance of wrestling again. Oh, and common sense.

* OAO Greatest Horror Movie Tourney FINALS *
nl5xsk1 replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in Television & Film
Dawn. And I do have to say that the tourney was well done, seeing as two of the movies that most deserved to get to the finals did. I feel like a lot of the time one of the two finalists is a WTF?!? option and thus it kind of takes away from the tournament as a whole. Having said that, I'm surprised that this was as one-sided of a final as it was. -
I'm the same way with a lot of posters around here. Just a natural instinct.
