Ippo gets the controls fairly well... but I feel like the underlying game mechanics might as well be darts on a board. Hard to well why I get knocked down, for whatever reason. And again, the story upsets me greatly. I also just read your posts... you can throw hooks? I've tried, but I can only throw a body hook when I jerk my arm back at the elbow suddenly.

I will admit that Victorious Boxers is somewhat fun, and is probably great two player, but if you're a fan of the manga series it's based off of, and you play story mode, you won't be happy

You are correct; the overall speed of Brawl is different from Melee. I think there's a 10-15% difference, but I forget what I read. If you lose to an unlockable character, you can repeat the conditions again to fight him. Just win another local multiplayer brawl. I got Snake through Subspace Emissary... takes a while. However, beating SSE is the fastest way to unlock characters. The last three you don't get through your first playthrough can be gotten easily (whether within postgame SSE or in single player). Pit was my favorite new character for a while, but now I pray at the altar of Wolf. I love that guy.

If you're a Hajime no Ippo fan, you might be tempted to rent or even buy the Victorious Boxers game. Don't. You're only wasting your time. The story doesn't make sense if you never read the manga, and if you have, the story is a cocktease, the game forces 480i and 4:3, and the controls are just not quite there.

Even with this crazy stuff coming out, I still want this. Kids these days don't care about fighting games. I know that this year there is a surge of fighters, and that warms the cockles of my heart... but I also think that this is the fighting game's last chance for relevancy in the modern era of games.

I don't see the point in trying to bag on trans issues. As far as I'm concerned, if there is confusion to gender identity based on a transition, the gender should default to whatever gender is being transitioned into. I haven't spoken to Annie in a long time regarding the status of her transition, but I know she is probably knocking a good 10 years off her life if she completes it. /d/ sucks.

As someone who has a lot to say, potentialy, about Japan specifically, let me sum up my feelings by explaining a game show that they have. They invite foreigners to come on, and challenge each other to trivia about Japanese geography, culture, history, etc. They have a Canadian as a longtime champion, and in an episode I watched, he demolished two Kenyans and a South African. Throughout this, there is a Japanese audience that claps and nods knowingly. "They are so good at our culture," I bet they say.

If it has online play I will buy it.

The DS has always used wireless routers. The dongle was for people that couldn't or didn't want to use a wireless router. As I've said in the past, it works better with some (Linksys) than with others (Netgear, but apparently Netgear works now? Whatever. My Smash is still broken for "With Anyone").

I feel that Halo 3's online community is generally the worst, with COD 4 not amazingly better. Dead or Alive's online community is very quirky, in general. Not griefers... just plan weird. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head that jumps out at me.

No, but the Xbox and GameCube era is. Actually, I was surprised Madden 08 came out on those systems at all. Although Madden got games on PS1 well into the PS2's lifetime.

Pfft. I said that the first time I saw that on Heat months ago, but it's not supposed to be Lucha. He's just trying to be like an old school wrestler (see Matt Classic), which is even more awesome. The announcers kill it because they keep calling it Lucha and act confused, and when I saw it live in LA the night before No Way Out, the crowd has no reaction whatsoever (I gathered a lot of confusion). He just needs to do lots of moves like hammerlocks, scoop slams, atomic drops, and the dreaded trapezius claw.

I wish I could get the same amusement from this as you guys are, but we've done stuff in the SWF chatroom that was way more messed up/funnier than this. Well, maybe like two or three things. (Wait, what?) I guess no one ever visits the SWF boards, because I probably would never hear the end of it from anyone if people saw what I did that day. Then again, are you guys still doing wacky stuff down there? I've been retired for years, and don't lurk like I used to.
