Speaking of awesome: I'm sure most of you have seen this by now, but god, I love it: K-State's

Dean Green! Great name.

Mike, your figures are way off. Blackwater has probably about 1000 guys in Iraq total; that's it. They have maybe 400 doing personnel security details for the state department based out of the US embassy, and the rest spread across the country. Yep. They're knuckleheaded shooters, but they have a sizable contract doing all the protection and escorting for state department throughout the country. The reason Blackwater won't ultimately get kicked out is that no one else can do the work; Blackwater has more resources and better equipment than the U.S. military at this point and is a huge part of the daily operations of any state department personnel. The only way Blackwater could get removed from the country would be if another company came in, bought all their resources, hired all their grunts, and took over the job.

Tasering the guy was pretty disgusting and unnecessary, him being an obvious douchebag looking for political martyrdom aside. I can only hope that "Don't tase me, bro!" works its way into the popular lexicon.

Skipping Yo La Tengo for this guy is a mistake that will haunt you your entire life. ...

David Bowie's version of "Across the Universe"
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in Music
Judging by what I've seen in the trailer, it's going to be much closer to "my face feels warm with embarrassment for myself and everyone involved" fun. -

Station to Station is jawesome. I like every song. And the original "Across the Universe" is lovely, as abominable as this Julie Taymor flick is likely to be. -
Haha. Awesome. Also, I never really wanted to nail Leslie Feist until I saw her "I'm standing still but still dancing" dance moves in that iPod nano commercial. Song licensing wins.

SIX FOOT FIVE INCH RECEIVERS! Michaels and Madden are terrible.

EFA Exactly why the athletic department scheduled those schools instead of James Madison, I'm sure, since the Dukes are some 1-AA hard hittaz.

Hell of a moustache ride.

UVA has a regional 1-AA game (Richmond or William & Mary) each of the next 4 years. That's lame. I guess you've got to balance USC somehow, but I'd rather at least play someone from the MAC or C-USA.

I read Delany's half autobiography/half philosophical tract, Times Square Red, Times Square Blue. Never ventured into any of his sci-fi, but I did learn about how he would blow guys in movie theaters for comfort!

Somewhat quietly amidst some bigger upsets today, Boston College completely handled Georgia Tech to take pole position as a frontrunner in the ACC. Really impressed with how Matt Ryan navigated the usually sound GT defense. They're Boston College, so they'll lose a retarded game they should win against Maryland or something like that, but they're looking like one of the most balanced teams in the country so far.

Just saw that UCLA score on the ticker. Damn. 'Bama looks great, and has most of the Darren McFadden trick plays and what-not scouted really well. I see a sad ending for Mr. Nutt.

I kind of missed this whole story and, subsequently, its joke possibilities.

Something I've never seen before in the UVA/UNC uglyfest: the back judge miscalled a good field goal. The ball went through the uprights at the bottom left corner, and both judges ruled no good. Thankfully UVA's video guys caught it and got them to go to the replay. Further evidence that ACC refs are the worst in the land.

I'm fond of it as a generic house beer. It's better than the big 3, and somewhat cheaper as well. Not gonna rock your palette, but there's a time and a place.
-
Friend of mine makes his own beer using kits, and it turns out pretty nicely. It seems that dark beers are easily to pull off well than light beers. I'm throwing a party tonight! I'm torn between getting a bunch of easily consumed generics that no one will complain about (i.e. Miller Lite, Yuengling) or going all-out with a bunch of more off the beaten path stuff.

Jingus is a brilliant philosopher-king. I resign.

Your inspiring "they should have known it wasn't the smart response" argument seems to be the standard for conduct you're setting. In that case, then the group of white kids who beat up the black kid in the first place were smart and did the right thing, because they knew they wouldn't be punished. Just shrugging off the double-standard, as you appear to be doing, and saying "that's life in Jena!" has to be one of the more retarded lines of thought I've seen in some time.

I really like Checkers. Liked, at least; I haven't eaten there in several years. I remember that one summer they had the fantastic Cheese Double Cheese on a special, where you could get two for two dollars, and some of those heart attack fries for another buck. One of the Checkers by my house in Florida also had a short-lived Mexican menu. An ill-advised team-up, never quite succeeding on the level of KFBell.

No one expects them to "get away with it." However, your justification--that they should know better--reeks of latent racism and active ignorance. You're speaking out both sides of your mouth.

Just finished. It's Thunder! Lightning! Strike! all over again, except lacking astronomical high points on par with "Ladyflash" and "Huddle Formation." Still fun, but pretty much the same formula. The only major changes are more live rapping instead of samples, and a completely "WTF is he doing here?" appearance from Chuck D on "Flashlight Fight." I expect my opinion of this to improve the more I listen to it driving around, which is when the first album really clicked for me. Out of all of yesterday's releases, Animal Collective's the best (really, really good), Kanye's probably next, and Go! Team a close third.
