It was pretty good. Not great, not as good as the first but I didn't feel like I wasted my money. It seemed to me that part of the fun of the first movie was seeing all of the rules being broken (the heavy pop-culture stuff, the satiric edge, flat-out shots at Disney stuff) and we wondered "what will they do now?" We expect it in the second one, and while there are some tremendously funny scenes, it felt a little hollow to me. In my opinion, neither Shrek can hold a candle to the better Disney movies (Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Lion King) or the Pixar stuff. It annoys me to this day that Shrek beat Monsters, Inc. for best animated picture.

SWF Lockdown Losing Matches Thread!
Kaertos replied to Ace309's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
To throw my two cents worth in: Basically, I picked Dace's over Tom's mostly because of that elusive "flow" that everyone complains about. Dace's felt mre like a complete match than Tom's, I felt more like I watching a good match rather than reading a good match. More verisimillitude, I guess. In the final analysis, they were both really, really good matches and I think you can make a good argument that either of them could have won just depending on who was marking it. A stellar effort from both men. -
You'll get my match in the morning. I need to go to bed.

Nope. The only self-defense they have is that there are a gazillion of them. In fact, one article I read said that most birds and other predators actually get sick of them; like being at an all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet. Eventually, no matter how hungry you are, shrimp just don't look appetizing anymore. They aren't Locusts at all, entirely different. The last time they were around, I remember going to a Reds game and just getting whacked with them all night. Finally, Dogs and Cats can eat them, but if they eat too many the hard exoskeletons will cause them to become constipated.

Probably would, but I got it out of the library, so I have to wait until I see it there again. On the other hand, my local library has an awesom TPB section. I managed to read The Kingdom, Squadron Supreme and Dark Knight Returns a coupld of weeks ago.

It's odd. Upon finishing reading it for the first time lte last year, my initial reaction was "eh". I mean, it was depressing, morbid, dark and there is maybe one character in the whole series you can understand or identify with. The story was massive and dense though, and in the meantime, I am wondering if I really disliked it or just didn't catch enough of the subtle touches the first time through.

I also have a little apologizing to do. I am sick as well, in fact I am thrilled that I have DVR because I fell asleep about 20 minutes into Raw last night and didn't really wake up until about an hour ago. Thus, I am sorry.

How about the 1975-76 Big Red Machine? Johnny Bench (HoF), Pete Rose (HoF eventually like it or not), Joe Morgan (HoF), Tony Perez (HoF), Dave Concepcion (should be HoF), George Foster, Ken Griffey, Cesar Geronimo managed by Spark Anderson (HoF) Radio Personalities - Marty Bennaman (HoF), Joe Nuxhall (Potential HoF)

My opinion on this is pretty simple. I think he quit mostly because of the travel, but also because he was tired of wrestling. If he was upset they were going to have him feud with Taker, well, suck it. He signed a contract. He was an employee of the WWE and they have a right to tell him what to do at work.

What matches in wrestling history were emotional
Kaertos replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in General Wrestling
Rock / Triple H - Judgment Day 2000: Why? Well, this was the match that made me start watching WWF/E again after burning out on it around WMV. Thus, I will always look back on that Iron Man Match (and the return of the Undertaker, who I missed completely before) with great fondness. Triple H & Austin v. Jericho & Benoit - Raw, 5-21-2001: Best tag match I have ever seen. I was marking out as the Canadian Connection won the match. The only sad part was becoming quickly aware that something really, really bad had happened to Triple H. Triple H v. Shawn Michaels v. Chris Benoit - Wrestlemania XX: Duh. Best Triple Threat I have ever seen, marked by an awesome finish. The follow up at Backlash was a great match as well. Kurt Angle v. Brock Lesnar - Wrestlemania XIX: Emotional because I knew how bad off Kurt was. I could care less if he wrestled again at that moment because all I could picture in my head was him in a wheelchair watching his daughter play and not being able to hold her. Then Brock nearly kills himself with the SSP. Very emotional... -
I have the "VideoHound's Guide to Sci-Fi" frm around 1998 or so. Good reference to older sci-fi flicks, plus the reviews are just a blast to read.

No kidding. To be honest, I'm not sure if I am more disheartened about there being a 1000 word headlock in a match or that people have spent more words than that examining its meaning in the context of past matches and with these characters. I'm all for comments and hey, if that's what you want to talk about and all, have at it. But it seems a little, well... off-kilter to me. Particuarly on a show where we crowned a new WORLD CHAMPION!

Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast in Mich town
Kaertos replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Current Events
Just out of curiosity, why would it be a different story? Is it because he is speaking Arabic? -
There is a difference. There are laws that govern how POW's are supposed to be treated and we are supposed to follow those laws. If that is an accurate description of how prisoners were treated, then it is wrong. A soldier can disobey an immoral order, he better just be ready to back it up.

Well here's the thing though: So legally, the people against it don't have a leg to stand on. If they pass a law that would make it illegal to do this, then that will open a very nasty can of worms about any sort of public address system in the community that can be heard outside a building. -
Perhaps this is the wrong thread to say this in, but I think it is pretty on topic. I am so very tired of hearing about all of the people in the American military who are going AWOL and refusing to go to war and refusing to do this and that. You signed the papers boys and girls. You made a commitment and you have to keep it, just like any other contract. The people who signed up assuming that they would never get involved in combat were being hopelessly naive. I do feel sorry for all of them deployed in foreign lands, and I do hope that as many of them as possible come home intact and soon. They have my sympathy, my admiration and my support (for what it's worth). But to complain that you never thought you would have to go to war and kill is like a computer technician complaining that he never thought he would have to use a screwdriver or install a hard drive. It's part of the job description.

I had a class ring. My grandparents bought it for me Junior year. I think it was like $284.00. I wore it all through the last year and a half of HS and my freshmen year of college. I might still wear it occasionally, but it no longer fits. The only ring I wear these days is my wedding ring. I have all of my yearbooks too.

Well damn! Rock on yourself Neilsen! And keep your head down, man.

I am beingz sad. SWF Favorite Writer(s): King, Edwin, Raynor, Thugg, Flesher, Williams, Dace, Toxxic Favorite Promo(s): I have four, two of which I wrote (what can I say?) - The promo right before the Edwin / Stevens match where we decided to go all out for the fans. - "Game Called" - my retirement promo - The Career retrospective Edwin and Raynor put together. I still read it about once every couple of months. It gets a little dusty in the room every time. - Of course.... Operation: POOFNAR Favorite Match(es): Edwin MacPhisto / Mark Stevens - my retirement match. I never wrote better than that, and mixed with Edwin's incredible stuff it was a thing of beauty. Favorite Stip to Write: Honestly? Triple Threats My Biggest Accomplishment: I'd like to say winning the world title, but I won them both on no-shows. So... Clusterf*ck and winning my ICTV rematch against Storm. I Regret That: I had to retire. God, I loved writing matches but the time just wasn't there. I Wish: I could come back. There is a huge part of me that looks at the current roster and thinks, "My God, I could have a great match with almost any of them." Dream Matches Involving Yourself: Well, duh. Suicide King / "Grand Slam" Mark Stevens - Hell in a Cell. Other than that? I'll take Flesher, Silent, Toxxic, Sacred and Danny with a side of fries please. Dream Matches: I would love to see King / Flesher. I would also love to see Williams / Edwin and anything (and I mean anything) involving Raynor. I've Become Most Friendly With: The Kliq (and Raynor, who somehow never graduated to "official" Kilq status) - Flesher, Ash and TBS I Hope: That I someday have the time to make one more run in the SWF. Personal Name (First name works, last name if you don't care): Chris Hicks Single: Nope, happily married for almost 8 years. Have Most Trouble: Getting to work on time, staying motivated Favorite Things to Do: Role-playing games, read, write, watch movies and hang out with my friends. This of course leaves out an entire section of things that fall under the "Favoirite things to do alone with my wife" that none of you are privy to. Most Recent Accomplishment: Buying my house, I guess. Big accomplishment anyways. On a smaller scale, I got to work early this morning. Most Recent Failure: Missed a chance to go back to school by a matter of weeks. Favorite Bands: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Van Halen, Huey Lewis & the News, Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Barenaked Ladies Favorite Book: The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (I've liked it from way back when. I still have the first paperback version I bought in 1986) Favorite Movie: Star Wars, Raiders of thge Lost Ark, Dead Poets Society Favorite Actor: Hmmm... well, I'll get crap for this, but I'm being honest... Ben Affleck. That dude was the bomb in "Jersey Girl". One Song to Listen to On Repeat: Either "Born to Run (Live)" or "Thunder Road (Live)" One Item You'd Save During A Fire: Assuming my wife was already out safe and all of the really really important stuff was good... my wedding album. Something You Want to Get Into To: Travel and Tourism Biggest Regret/Mistake: Not taking a local college up on their full scholarship instead accepting a lesser amount and believing my dad that he would help me pay for school. Biggest Turn On: My wife (and now that the safe answer is out of the way... a great pair of legs. Even better if they are in stockings.) Biggest Turn Off: People who feel superior to me. Oh, and excruciatingly severe body odor. If You Died and Went To Heaven, What Do You Want God to Say: "Nice job kid. Have a seat." How About Going to Hell, Devil says: "You? Here? There has to be some mistake."

I don't even like keeping CDs in those CD travel binders. Sliding them in and out makes it really easy to scratch if the felt inside the sleeve (or the sleeve itself if it is one of the cardboard / plastic type) has anything on it. I'll keep mine in the original cases, thanks.

Wow. There are some pretty vehement reactions on this topic. And to be honest, I don't understand most of them. I doesn't sound to me like the crowd reaction has been changed at all on the DVD. Granted, I haven't been able to directly compare the two (yet) but I doubt it is as bad as some people have made it sound. My opinion on the matter: Don't care. Likely, I will skip over that match as often as watch it. On the grand scale of things, it was a bad match made memorable only by crowd reaction and the trivial (in the long run) fact that all three men involved in the match are gone. If I want to watch a match elevated by crowd reaction, I'll watch my tape of Hogan / Rock from X8. Terrible match, but still better than the snooze-fest that was Brock / Goldberg. Ah yes... theft... good solution. Other than that, it is hard to argue with that kind of well thought out logic. I disagree (obviously, since he is disagreeing with my earlier post). I enjoyed Jericho / Christian and Cena / Big Show. The women's match could have been better, but was worth watching. Neither tag title match was as good as they should have been, and the same goes for the Cruiserweight match. As I said, Goldberg / Lesnar was trash. Undertaker's return was a true mark-out moment, even if the match wasn't exactly Flair / Steamboat. I agree with you on Evo / Rock 'n Sock, but then again Rocky and Foley are two of my favorite guys. Of course, we all (alright, not all of us, but a majority) agree that the two World Title matches were great. I think I might be missing something here, but hat sums up my thoughts pretty well...
-
I don't understand some of these responses at all. Two great matches and a slew of good to pretty good matches aren't enough to buy the DVD? I'll be buying it because the tape I made of the event live has a problem (weird little line at the bottom of the screen and a "clicking" sound in the audio... can't wait for my DVD recorder) and I want to have WrestleMania XX in a more permanent form. I'm glad they added any extras at all in fact. The ones they added are the ones I wanted. And as far as Easter Eggs go, I have never purchased a DVD just because the Easter Eggs were good.

This is a great topic, by the way... My answers? Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day As Time Goes By by Doolie Wilson Born to Run (Live Version) by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band oh... and just because I think a good cry is theraputic at a funeral and if my wife outlives me... Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton / Whitney Houston I even have two poems picked out to be read. I've thought about this ever since my Sister-in-Law's ex-husband died suddenly in a car crash a couple of years ago.

I understand the purpose the neighbors had in the movie (comedy relief, make Frank feel connected to the world again), I just think they went overboard. It could have been far more subtle than the one with piercings telling Frank flat-out "We are your family now." I don't know. I guess when it was said and done, I wanted a little less goofiness in the middle of the movie. It was almost like I was on a great thrill ride having a blast, and right in the middle of the ride it turned into a silly cartoon, then back into a thrill ride. The change was too abrupt and jarring. I groaned when the neighbors showed up onscreen because I knew it was getting away from the story I paid money to see: The Punisher getting revenge,
