Avi Arad talks upcoming Marvel movies

Don't they always lock the stars down for two or three movies on these superhero franchises?

    New Keane Album

Well, for the new generation. Elton John and Jerry Lee Lewis could play like madmen. Shit, Trent Reznor's far more competent than those hacks (EDIT: by hacks, I mean the guys from Coldplay and Keane, not JLL and Elton John, obviously) , and writes melodies. I guess it's just more apparent in Keane than Coldplay because the Keane guy's vocal meoldies are ultra-simple too. He just belts it out like that makes up for it. When I think about it, the only non-vocal melody from Coldplay that's interesting at all is lifted directly from Kraftwerk's 'Computer Love'.

Definitely agree with the above two posts. He's dealt with his demons, you've already spent an ungodly amount of money on making a Bana-Hulk, just let it ride for another movie.

Destroying the really touching ASM 400, which is like the only good Spider-Man comic for a span of years it seemed.

    New Keane Album

I can sit through a Keane song on the radio. But it was torture to listen to them being BLASTED for an hour. And I really do find the keyboardist to be a little... disturbing and a lot terrible. In short, they're a really vanilla, wussy, derivative band. I guess if you like soft rock, but I don't.

    Crud. Sonic Youth

It's grown on me. I think initially it just sounded to similar to Sonic Nurse, which was disappointing, because one of the things I really like about SY is they really don't repeat themselves. If this had come out first, I probably would have been disappointed with Nurse. Yeah, the first track on the album is insanely catchy. For a while there I thought she was going to ruin the band. On Thousand Leaves ever song she does is just torture, and every other song I like quite a bit. Boys go to JUPITER get more Get more STUPIDER! Girls go to MARS become rock STARS! Fuck me was that bad.

I was going to shit myself if you compared Air to Keane til I read the last sentence. They were part of a really great concert I went to they were absolutely awful. They merely suck on the radio. But trust me, at a concert, that guy's voice is PIERCING. So you're left with a guy with a voice that makes you want to stick knitting needles in your ears, and a terrible, spastic keyboard player. I'm a much better piano player than that fucker. All he does is plug away at chords and look like he's trying to copy the body language of the Ultimate Warrior's entrance. God I hate Keane.

The OaO 90's Fighting Games Thread

I really like Sakura. Her chargin Shoryuken is vicious. She plays more differently from the shotos than Captain america and Cyke. No Charlie/Guile? And what's with their reluctance to ever have Blanka in another game? He was the most popular character in SFII at many an arcade. I don't really like the change to the buttons in MvC2, but the sheer amount of characters makes sure you can play it for a LONG time (even if many of them are ridiculously unbalanced. Fucking Cable scrubs. Grrr) Plus it has Buletta/BB Hood who is like the best fighting game character on earth. And I kick ass with her. It's an absolute joy if you can get off her "crying and stabbing the enemy a ridiculous number of times, then drowning them in a pool of your tears" attack. I also have to give a shout out to Rival Shools: United by fate. My friends and I played the shit out of that game. I was monstrous with Akira. I also had a disgusting areial combo worked out with the Chiropractor lady.

Well, considering how fine an actress she is, I think Ang probably directed her to act like that.

Covers you liked better than the original?

Of course this was going to be the first one I mentioned. SY also did a killer version of Ca Plane Por Moi. I'll probably get called nuts for this one, but I prefer the Fugees version of "No Woman no Cry," because musically it's one of my least favorite Marley songs. (though the lyrics are terrific) Jimi's All along the Watchtower is another obvious one. Eww, no. The Eurhythmics (sp?) version is WAY better.

The OaO 90's Fighting Games Thread

Lots of people swear by the SNK games as the only fighting games worth playing. I think some of that attittude is ased on their absolutely insane difficulty levels. The AI on the bosses in those games were ridonkulous. Samurai Shodown II, Last Blade II and Garou: Mark of the wolf are all amazing. I completely fell out of love with the MK series after the second installment. The running and dial-a comboes in MK 3 pissed me off. I liked KI, there was something very satisfying about pulling out your first massive Fulgore combo. Looking back on it, it's really quite a shallow game. Hated Primal Rage. I like the Versus series, though Marvel Super-Heroes v Street Fighter has the worst character seletion ever. You have only nine spots for SF characters, so you include Ryu, Ken, Akuma and Dan? Not to mention Captain America and Cyclops all play quite similarly to those four.

    Joe Rogan is a fuckbeast.

I was watching UFC tonight with a friend tonight. After some Joe Rogan commentary, my friend dismissivly said 'like you've ever been in a fight, Joe Rogan.' From listening to the NewsRadio DVD's, I knew Rogan had some background in martial arts, but he was humble about it. I looked him up: "At the age of 19, he won the US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship and, as the lightweight champ, went on beat both the middle and heavy weight title holders to take home the Grand Championship." What a fuckbeast. Never would've guessed.

Just a theory is an inherently meaningless statement that should be excised from our vocabulary. Numerous, numerous experiments have found to be consistent with Einstein's Theory of Relativity. It has never been disproven. What's it called? Einstein's THEORY of relativity. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster That's terrific!

NO IT FUCKING HASN'T. GODDAMIT!!! Let me drill this into everyone's skull for the MILLIONTH FUCKING TIME. ACCORDING TO THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD A THEORY CAN NEVER BE PROVEN. ONLY DISPROVEN. It's a THEORY that the sun will continue to rise and set during our liftime. All of Newton's theories were 'proven' time and time again. That didn't last, did it? There's still very useful for approximation but Einstein's theory of relativity disproved Newton's physics. Therefore Creationism or Intelligent Design or whatever the fuck they're calling it now is NOT a theory, since it can never, ever be disproven. It does not meet the fundamental definition of a theory. It is a belief.

Oh, it's definitely a remake. It has like 20 minutes of new footage. The big difference is I find the movie to be much, much, more sympathetic to Guld. Huh, I didn't know Macross Plus was done by the guy who did Bebop and Champloo. I need to finish Samurai Champloo.
  17. I was always a mark for 'Vicious and Delicious'. Norton's always been a big guilty pleasure for me, and Buff could work back then. They weren't great, but they always seemed really enthusiastic. Their entrance, with Norton screaming incomprehensible nonsense while Buff would jump on his back (Norton not even flinching), grinning like a giant doof always cracked my shit up. I also liked High Voltage precisely because they were fucking awful. I don't think I ever saw them win a match, their entrance music was incredibly terrible. 'BZZZT! BZZZT! Danger! Danger! High Voltage!' Kenny Kaos and Robby Rage. That is so awesome. I guess it beats 'generic roided guys # 1 and 2.' They were just awful. And for some reason, I loved them for it. What was the name of the Jericho/Storm tag team? They had a really great match with the Heavenly Bodies, where Jericho worked the entire match with a legit broken arm, and cut a Muta-esque gusher.

Patlabor 1 is better, but I still greatly enjoy Patlabor II. Haven't seen the third one (non-Oshii) but I hear it's quite good. Maybe knowing the characters of Patlabor makes it better. They really explore different characters in the movie, it's the focal point.

    OAO Anime/Manga Thread

Told you! The art is definitely distinctive (they have noses!) and the animation is generally of quite high quality. It won't beat out Samurai Champloo, but I don't think it'll ever look particularly dated. And that soundtrack... Yoko Anno is a fucking genius. I do have to say tho that GitS: SAC bores me to death. I much prefer the movies. Then again I like pretty much all of Oshii's movies (Patlabor 1&2, Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, both GitS's) and hate most animes that try to mimic his style. I'm speaking specifically about Jin-Ro, which I thought was pretty terrible. Also: Have you ever wanted to cry like a little bitch? Watch Grave of the Fireflies. Jesus fucking Christ that is the saddest movie in the world. No other movie has made me cry, but just thinking about this one makes me want to. Christ it's sad. And very good.
