Those in power better thank their lucky stars and suck their own dicks, because Kayne took all the heat off of them. As I said, I lived in NO for 5 years. EVERYONE knew that they were in deep shit if there was a hurricane. We evacuated once, I spent the night in a car in a parking garage for the other (I was SET). Equal shame has to go to the local, supremely corrupt gov't, and the national gov't, but there's apparently no shame. We didn't know the levies would break. Even though EVERYONE did. Fuck it.

It's only 2.899 here. Like I'm going to be tricked to go to a place where it's 2.90! That extra hundredth of a cent is going into my kid's college fund!* Screw you, man! *Crack for me.

Although I really dislike Oprah, I don't think she withdrew support from the book. She verbally berated the author, but stopped short of denying the book.

Are we at the peak of the sport?
Special K replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
THe competitevity (is that word) is incredible right now, though. I could watch MMA forever right now. Evander's got a point, though, I don't think MMA will ever eclipse boxing in terms of popularity, not in the US, certainly, even though I'm bored with boxing now. All I do when I watch boxing is try to compare boxers to MMA fighters, and wish they would fight. -
Anyone got any crazy Autograph Signing stories?

It was just incredible to see. 16-yo ECW mark? *sultry look, hand on chest* Sheepish looking obese kid? *Leg up, Lance Storm bimbo smile* I could've died laughing in admiration. She was so fucking great to the fans. Probably why I've watched WWE once since she was fired for being pregnant. -
I find South Park funnier than FG (especially post-hiatus FG), but I'm sort of turned off by Trey and Matt's martyr complex. Comedy Central has given them creative liscence to do almost exactly what they please, I'm sure the scientologist episode verdict came from on high. (there's a lot of money in MI:3) As an aside, I thought the R. Kelly bit was hilarious. Then, I actually saw 'Trapped in the closet". "Trapped in the closet" is so ludicrously, deliriously funny, that it blows SP out of the water. Just knowing that the guy that made this shit thought it was so good, makes it even funnier. The commentary with R. Kelly: "it's like a cliffhanger, It holds you TIGHT, it's a cliffhanger x100" makes it the funniest thing I've ever seen. * SP is still a very funny show, though. *Except AD, of course.

I'm very excited for the Seahawks next season. I think they're just as good as last season. If Julian Peterson stays healthy, they have a FEARSOME D. Burleson should offset the loss of Hutchinson well, this season. I'm a bit worried about them in the long run, though. Signing Shaun and Burleson to such monstrous contracts is a mistake in the long run. Shaun just posted the best season by an RB ever, but he's getting old, and while he is surely talented, Hutchinson and W. Jones deserve a lot of the credit. Burleson, if healthy, is one of the better WR2's in the league, but we got by famously with Jurevicius, and it's hard to see Burleson staying healthy long. The 'if healthy' caveat is tough to take on a guy who plays so hard, and is famous for making yards after the catch. At least he's a Seattle Boy. I've got two friends who played against him in track. (their consensus: He's a fucking freak) I'll continue to root for the Bengals, hard. I hope Carson Palmer comes back kicking ass. I love the Bengals because A) they're perrenial losers B) they're pretty much the most exciting team in football. ONe thing I love about them is their D is so all or nothing. Throw it deep on the Bengals D. Either you're getting a TD or they're returning it 30 yards. And the 3rd team I love, which I might have to stifle my love for is the Cards. They look to have a crazy O this year. I love watching them, and I love Fitz and Boldin, but if they actually start winning, I may have to revise my opinion. I think the Vikes are going to suck, unless they get a new receiver posthaste, and that suits me just fine.

The Vs. option in GHII seems to be getting an upgrade, which is good. Red Octane has always sort of has a hard time with multiplayer. It seems they will have sort of a co-op mode. I want some Sonic Youth!* *Won't happen. : (

FFXII got 40/40 from Famitsu, FYI. It's the fifth title to do so IIRC, along with Vagrant Story and LoZ:OoT, and some other stuff I don't remember. That's a good sign. I likes the demo. Though I could do without another bishounen main character. He looks more like a girl than Tidus.

Anyone got any crazy Autograph Signing stories?

I was a huge ECW mark in college. Being from Seattle, I knew I had about zero chance to see an ECW show live, unless I was to catch one in N.O. (where my university was) There's a TNN taping my freshman year (to put it in context, Dudleys had just left for WWF, Raven was back.) So I take a half hour cab ride to the taping, and get like 3rd row seats. Intermission comes, Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney are signing stuff. They were a bit brisque, but not really rude. After all, it was like 20-30 minutes and the autographs were free, they just wanted to get to everyone. I get Balls to sign a photo I bought, and buy an ECW magazine. The rest of the show finishes. (BTW, it was incredibly fun). I'm waiting for my cab after the show. The wrestlers are slowly filing out. Most sign a couple things, then take their leave. Dawn Marie comes out, she's still in her sleazy ring attire, (she's MUCH better looking in person, very pretty). She signs EVERYONE's stuff. Better yet, she takes pictures with everyone who has a camera. Not just the smile and the handshake, but doing all her classic "bimbo w/Lance Storm" poses with just a huge smile on her face. I got my magazine signed by her, (too bad I didn't have a camera). That made me a fan for life. A true class act. My friend met Booker in Vegas, and even though Booker was gambling, my friend said he was really, really, nice. Taking time to exchange words, a handshake, and a smile with any fans that recognized him. That's really cool to do, especially when you're on your down-time. EDIT: By far the biggest line I've ever seen was for a Bruce Campbell book signing. It was IMMENSE. Hilarious guy, and a class act as well. -
I think it's a kick-ass movie.

Movies that everyone loves that you cannot get the love for
Special K replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in Television & Film
I actually remember liking Van Wilder a fair amount when it came out (though I have a violent aversion to Tara Reid), I just can't remember anything about the movie aside from the scene I mentioned, and the shitting in the basket scene. My favorite joke may have actually come from a promo piece for the movie. Someone's 'interviewing' Van Wilder, and he's leaning back all smug, and says something to the effect of, "what can I say? It's the 90's. I'm a 90's type of guy." Interviewer: ..Actually, it's 2001. Wilder gets this distraught look on his face and leans forward and sputters "When... when did this happen?" I thought it was funny. -
I'd definitely want a Sting/Muta match in there, those guys were pretty revolutionary for American wrestling at the time. I'd definitely include Pillman/Lyger (first Nitro) and Sting/Flair (final Nitro) The more Sting, Flair and Vader, the better.

Covered in herpes and assymetrical? -
I have those two and SRV to beat on expert. The bitch about "Cowboys" and "Bark" is the strumming's so strenuous, I have to rest my wrist for half hour before I try again. I need to get a longer guitar strap.

You seriously need a new prescription, Bob. Katy Holmes is not as hot as any of those three. She has not aged well. -

There's a difference between "has been done before" and "conventional." I hear they usually make it into jerky. -
I didn't even like the first one at all. The only laugh I got was the football pads.

I have a feeling that the later incarnation of X-Force, going to X-Statix was a very cult series by Marvel. I personally loved it. It was funny, ruthlessly satirical, and I simply love Allred's art. (though I may be in the minority). Anyway, apparently Milligan and Allred are back for a miniseries starring Dead Girl and Dr. Strange, with guest appearance by I'm pumped. Anyone else?
