    Family Guy Switched

Because it's become more involved in current events and has a different spin on things. Personally, I like South Park now more than I ever did before, and for the most part Trey and Matt annoy the crap out of me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do like how they parody (often truthfully) certain media darlings, where other shows don't have the guts to (don't want to risk them turning down a guest spot, do we?)

    Family Guy Switched

Well John K. (and many Spumco fanboys) have struck me as bitter old you-know-what's from time to time... As for me, John K. lost whatever respect I had left for him with the Spike R&S's. So you got your babies back from Nickelodeon finally, you're primed to make this big comeback, so what do you do??? Make R&S the Unambiguously Gay Duo! Suuuuuuuuuubtle. Actually as a whole, that show doesn't hold up (my tastes in television have changed a lot, though).... the 30-minute bathroom jokes don't cut it anymore. Rocko's Modern Life was better IMO. As for Kevin Smith, I won't judge his work (I actually like some of it), but can you count him as an authority on quality when he said that Episode III (Revenge of the NOOOOOOOOOO!) totally made up for the other two Star Wars prequels?!!?
  3. Quite simply. Kayfabe. Treating it like an athletic competition and not entertainment. Not knowing about the politics too. THAT is what really killed wrestling today for me...I'm sure it was almost as bad in the '80s at times, but it really sucks to know that so-and-so will never be allowed to get over because of what so-and-so thinks of him, people with talent being held back, etc. etc. I can't watch mainstream wrestling knowing that like every other form of entertainment now, talent means next to nothing.

CM Punk buried by HHH, Hayes, and HBK

They're basically trying to screw him over worse than HHH did to Jericho since 1999. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Raw Thanksgiving 2005...HHH and Flair revisit the homeless people: "You can't work! You're just as bad as Punk! HAW HAW HAW!"

    WWE Legal Battles

Is this really a new thing? Where were these tears for Rena Mero, Joanie Laurer, Ray Traylor, Ed Leslie, John Tenta, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and many others? Is this made worse just because they seem so obsessed right now? Oddly enough, at the NWS shows I went to over the weekend, they featured a Doink...WWF name, costume, music, and all (on advertisements they called him the "Wrestling Clown" though). I guess the TNA debut of Doink the Clown isn't seen as much of a major threat or something?

    X-Factor

And I can't let that pass without mentioning that moment leading to one of the greatest quotes ever (;-)), "YOU MADE ME DANCE FOR SIX MONTHS!!!!!!"

    Frankie Kazarian to leave WWE?

As I said in the TNA folder, "You go, Frankie!" It's good to see someone standing up to the stifling ways of the WWE for once.

    Kazarian Done With WWE

I hear his reason for leaving was, among other things, the no 450s-and-such rule. If that's true, then I say, YOU GO, FRANKIE! About time someone stands up to the WWE's oppressive qualities. There are several more I wish would follow suit.

    Christian still remains unhappy

Too true, both here and in U.S. entertainment in general, where all that counts is you being a good little sheep and believing in who the media tells you is talented, attractive, etc (how else can you explain Paris Hilton's rise to stardom, whilst there are so many people with real talent and really good programs that are/were wasted??????) This is just the "NWO Sabotage" theory all over again...if you remember, anyone who wasn't NWO in 1997-98 and was over would end up being depushed and/or pulled off of television altogether. Then they'd have some cover-up explanation (i.e. Norman Smiley was taken off TV cause the "Big Wiggle was too offensive" or some such slop). I am just dying to know what's up here and what has happened to Christian. It'll probably be something stupid like the whole "missing the Secret Handshake with Droz" thing though, or refusing to offer to shine the Undertaker's shoes or whatever.

    You Sold Out chants...

Now, I know most of us think that people who have chanted "You sold out" at a wrestler, say, going to the Big Two, are being immature and disrespectful. So here's an interesting question...do you think anyone actually ever EARNED that chant or would most likely warrant it? I imagine a lot of stuff will be based on hindsight, i.e. "If I only knew what was going to happen." Note: This is NOT a way to get people to admit that so-and-so did sell out. I just wanted to know what your opinions were.

    Anybody else growing weary...

Already did, three years ago. Why? Pretty much for many of the reasons described here and before. Too much being governed by politics (yes, knowing about that makes a lot of that hurt possible, that much is true); good workers being neutered by stupid main event style, lack of push, or bad gimmicks; lack of variety because of said main event style limitations; workers being punished for simply being a star elsewhere (see: inVasion and beyond); an OD on sports entertainment Russo ripoff booking, which is a quite scary concept; not caring about good in-ring performances; pushing people or bad ideas that fans don't want to see; relying on lowest common denominator stuff (which is a widespread problem in all of entertainment, actually); and an all-around death of what I call the "classic element" of wrestling. Because of the end of kayfabe, the treating of the program like a TV show instead of a faux-athletic competition, etc, things just no longer feel the same. Which is why I prefer the WWE's DVD comps (the only thing I truly respect and give props to the company for), old tapes, indies, and better-known feds like TNA that offer alternatives to the many elements I named above.

    CM Punk's gimmick

Another question brought about by comments regarding the Joke Rumor That Will Never Be Named Again...am I nuts, or in World Class, wasn't there someone they promoted as the First Blind Wrestler? I vaguely recall this when ESPN was showing old WCCW shows ("Legends of World Class"), is there anyone here who knows who this was? As far as blind wrestlers, Stan Hansen is legally so, right? And how about Carl Styles out of Portland, who had one glass eye (mentioned several times in the Apter mags, including an alleged angle where the heels used a foreign object to pull the artificial optic out, with bloody results)

Paul Londons Promo On Velocity *spoilers*

Well, except for one...three H's, I mean, guesses as to who I'm referring to...

    CM Punk's gimmick

THANK GOODNESS this was just a joke. If Punk went through with this, I'd probably be compelled to go to my new thread on the General folder and list this as a time "You sold out" chants would be justifiable. That said, mods, feel free to blank out any reference to this rumor so, yeah, no one will get any ideas. Replace the details with the text "The rumor that shall not be named" or something. EDIT: Looking back at the one comment about "WWE never uses people's original gimmicks," I wonder...can we name many instances when they did mostly leave wrestlers intact AND decently pushed them?

WWE bans the "450 Splash & the SSP" !!

I just HATE to spread HHHate...but wasn't it because Trips complained about Undertaker giving him a stinger off a tombstone when UT returned at Judgment Day 2000?
  16. JMFabiano524

WWE bans the "450 Splash & the SSP" !!

And this is one of the reasons why I won't give their programming the time of day...everyone wrestles the same match. It's like an SNES game...all the guys do the same stuff with one finisher and maybe 2-3 signature moves. Their little main event style = no more variety. As such, count me in as another who says Impact can't show up on Spike soon enough. If Jeff Jarrett is the only thing I have to put up with, then it's already miles ahead of WWE's situation.

    Bret Hart meeting WWE

You said it yourself, Choice #2 (cause you see..."Who inducts Bret"...I'm gonna duck now...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didnt KNK say that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oops...must have been sloppy with my quote copying and pasting. Sorry! On a serious note concerning this topic, I'm happy if Bret gets the DVD he wants and if he gets a fair chance to not have to be angry forever. Oddly, I know too well about not letting go if/when someone has done me or one of my friends wrong; as such, I know it's a bitch to feel that way. So good for Bret if he looked for and will get the closure he desires. Hopefully that is still important to him...he should not = nothing more than another Sable.

Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band

Not sure if this is old news, but go to sydlexia.com...the main page includes a review of said album. But here's the truly cool part...it includes the LYRICS for all the songs.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Back during the Greater Power "mystery," I recall a rumor that they were planning to have the person who'd be the GP portray the reincarnation of Vince Sr. Anyone got more on that? Of course...there were some wacky rumors about the GP at the time, if you do a search in Google Groups ("highlighted" by several "they faked Owen's/Pillman's death" theories)
  22. From a DVDVR post, refers to that one 1986 SNME, you know, the "did Hulk or didn't Hulk submit to the rack?" episode: The Hercules promo was Hogan claiming that Hercules was stronger than the Hercules of mythology, which makes him an immortal, so Hogan has been "hanging and banging with Eve" in the garden of Eden to prepare himself. Somehow the Titanic gets involved too. It's pretty out there, but no moreso than any of his other promos of this period. I just HAVE to have the full version of this, be it in text or A/V...

    Best

A few points to make above about this (very enjoyable) thread... 1) Taz originally used the "real" War Machine shortly after he turned heel. Then, around the time of Barely Legal, he used an instrumental, slightly altered version (with him saying "I don't need a weapon, my hands are my weapons"). Then later came the "Survive If I Let You" version (only the opening riff was like WM) 2) We have quite an extensive theme request thread on the DVDVR boards...the "HHH as evil mastermind behind the hit-and-run" instrumental of My Time (the more "badass" version) was brought up there too, but I don't think the song itself was uploaded. Anyone able to locate? 3) The Corporate Ministry/Ministry of Darkness theme was mentioned...did the opening of the MOD music remind anyone else of the Demolition (Derringer) theme? And the CM remix of No Chance grew on me, but it has to be the original with the soundbites, not the altered one on Anthology. Now, for my favorites, get ready this may take awhile... Real American (I know some of you don't like him, but SK made a good point...this song is akin to the Star Wars opening: even if it's an aged Hogan or a prequel, you have to mark out) Kurt Angle/The Patriot Hart Foundation/Bret Hart (I think I liked the original more than the 1994 remake) HBK (Sherri version!!!!) I'm The Mountie/We're Not The Mounties (what were the Quebecers saying at the very end of the song, BTW?) Adam Bomb heel Doink heel Ultimate Warrior (anyone got the long version, not the looped one from Anthology) Million Dollar Man Wrestlemania (6-9 theme, with the guitars and horns, that was AWESOME, and someone found a looped version on DVDVR for me! $5000 and a spin for anyone with the complete one...) SummerSlam '90-'93 or '94 Royal Rumble '91 (same as the SummerSlam '88-9 music) King of the Ring/USWA weekly open Demolition Jive Soul Bro Sting (just before Man Called Sting) Chris Benoit (his original WCW "porn" music, WWF/E, original and "Whatever") Christian (At Last) Stunning Steve Austin '91 (this majestic sounding tune, used I think up till he was a Hollywood Blond) Hollywood Blonds Steiners '90-'92 Doom Black Blood/One Man Gang/Super Invader Owen Hart (contrary to the love for Enough is Enough/sirens theme, his best theme music IMO will ALWAYS be the High Energy theme) Rock (both versions when in the Nation) Undertaker (the first version with the bells, and his VERY FIRST theme heard at SurSer '90...like the one we know, but more warbly organ) Goldust (the theme he first used at RR'96, the extended version of the music he started out with, yet it sounded true to the original, moreso than the more "tinkly" version that came later) Legion of Doom '91-'92, '97-'98 Four Horsemen theme circa 1990 (can probably be heard on the six-man from G.A.B. 1990) Sid Vicious 1990 Sid 1991 Skyscrapers '89 Midnight Express (the NWA version of Chase, used in Bobby Eaton's single run too until he joined the DA) Master Blasters I (can be heard if you have a copy of the 9/90 Clash or the PPV version of HHavoc '90) Johnny B. Badd (not Here Comes Johnny B. Badd, the '50s style music he had before that) Great Muta '89 (I assume it wasn't mainstream...the badass Asian music that starts with I think the thunder clap, another I need!) Eddy Guerrero WCW (heel, also Chavo WWF #1) Cactus Jack WCW '91 (the spooky organ music based on Taps) Diamond Studd/Barbarian '92 Vader '91-'95 WCW (Another Must Have) Orient Express/just about any WWF Asian in the '90s Big Boss Man (Hard Time) Mr. Perfect Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake Dusty Rhodes (American Dream, I liked it, so sue me) Dusty Rhodes (whatever that synth music was that he used in 1987-88, it didn't fit him but it was cool music) Lex Luger (NWA/WCW '89-'92...also liked his "Jaws" music from '88) Arn Anderson '91/The Enforcers Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (WWF...how can you not like a song that stole the Mark VII logo's hammering SFX? :-)) Jake Roberts (both face and heel, aka "Trust Me") The WWF "king" music (heard to this day in WWE for Lawler) Patriot's "Jump" ripoff in GWF Coast to Coast Connection (GWF) 1-2-3 Kid '94 (the name was corny, but the theme great. Why did they replace the "1-2-3!" chants on Anthology...now it sounds like a cousin of the referee from NES Tag Team Wrestling or arcade Mat Mania) Time To Play The Game (only cause we can break out in bad HHH imitations when we hear it..."MY QUAAAAAAAAAAAAD!" Just like we do whenever we hear Beautiful Day now...) Razor Ramon Ric Flair altered 2001 theme (WWF, '91-'93) Also, does anyone remember Flair in his last months in WCW, using a song totally unlike 2001? I wonder if anyone could find that one too... Bam Bam Bigelow '88/Prime Time '91 opening Earthquake/Natural Disasters Rockers (sped-up Warrior music, essentially) Stud Stable Barry Windham La Grange ripoff (the instrumental and, with lyrics, "He's Smokin'" from the Slam Jam album) Beaver Cleavage (yes, I'm one of the four people who actually liked that character...the others being my uncle, and of course the two Vinces) Raven WCW Come As You Are ripoff Chris Jericho WCW Evenflow ripoff (mostly for the person it heralded, once he turned heel) Self High Five/Smells Like DDP DDP's original Rock 'n' Roll Part Two ripoff York Foundation Dallas theme ripoff Hacksaw Jim Duggan WWF '90 (sped-up Big John Studd '89) Jimmy Snuka '89 Most of the corny-lyric Attitude songs (I'm An Ass Man, It's Sexual Baby...) Red Rooster (yes I'm a sucker for Wrestlecrap, to wit...) American Males (and...) Bird, Bird, Bird (Koko B. Ware) Greg Valentine/Taylor Made Man (WCW, 1992) You'd Better Recognize (used by D-Lo right after the Nation) Brock Lesnar (mostly for that opening riff, the camera effect, and Tazz yelling "Here comes the pain!") Nation of Domination The Nation (would evolve into Rock's theme music) Goldberg (WCW) Alex Wright Kanyon (as himself and the Phantom of the Opera music he had as Mortis) Disco Fever Oh yeah, I would be remiss if I left out a song recognized by wrestling fans the world over. I can never forget this truly memorable WWF theme, one where you knew just who was coming and what was about to happen once you heard it. Nothing can ever, EVER beat the rush when you hear the glass break and then... ... ... REPO MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! :-) :-) :-) :-)

    Brandon Routh as Superman

Eh, the Batsuit agrees with me, the more I see it. It kind of reminds me of what Bats wore in Kingdom Come. And hey, no nipples! :-) J. <-- tires of the SHURT NOT PLASTIKK Batsuit debates

I'm hoping they had this in mind when saying that JB would be playing a "funny" Green Lantern (debunked since by Wizard, Dan Didio, and/or Geoff Johns)
